Hi, I am Phương Anh - the presenter in the video. Although the talk was delivered a while back and I haven't gotten back to it ever since, I'm quite amazed by all the nice words everyone has given me. I would like to say thank you for all your positive comments, and even the constructive ones. You have given me the motivation to strive for the better, and for those who have commented that you are proud of me - despite never meeting me, or those who have found the motivation from my speech, I just want to let you know it really makes my day hearing it, and I believe in you. My appreciation goes to everyone who has taken the time to listen to my talk and the support you have given me. I wish you all the best in everything that you do, and I sincerely hope to see more positivity - as I am so lucky to have received from you - to all of the successes and achievements out there!
Her accent is very good and especially she is only 16 years old, she is very young but she has a big confidence, English skill and presentation. I so admire her, and I'm trying to pass my exam in a Gifted High School
JISOL good luck girl, im rooting for u. I used to study to get into a gifted highschool as well but the result turned out to be not so well so i just study at a normal public school =))) but since ive already gone through that time so i know that u must have paid a great deal of effort right now to achieve ur goal. Hope the result worth all ur hard work 😀
And regarding the topic and contents, I think I am listening to a life and professional coaching talk. Reading is about getting yourself ready and prepared and once you are ready, things will come to you. It is a life philosophy indeed.
Really admirable speaker, her accent is litterally natural and beautiful. Her speech is effective delivery and convincing when it comes to this reading topic. So proud to live in Vietnnam - country that have many good citizens like this.
The initial reason why I started reading and loved it even before I began going to school: Reading was much better than being bored. Back then, there was not much for a child to watch on TV, and I was kept at home most of the time, playing by myself since I'm a sole child. If you live in a house with a lot of storybooks and nothing else to do. You will likely read one to avoid boredom. One downside though, you will like books more than people.
For anyone interested, the book "courage to be disliked" that she quoted was published in VN under the name "dám bị ghét". A nice book with a great way of delivering message.
I JUST LOVE HER MINDSET. WHAT A GOOD MINDSET OF A GIRL AT THIS VERY YOUNG AGE. IM QUITE SURE THAT SHE WILL DEFINITELY HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD OF HER.
the first ted talk that I've watched but not skipped any at all, although she's just 16, it doesn't important, the important thing that she is so talented, the way she inspired the motivation to everybody makes me feel more productive and more motivation to do something, something that I want, thanks for the speech. wish all the best to you
One thing I completely agree that reading without selecting just wasting your time. I used to read 10 books per month with a wide range of book types in the hope that could make myself better, that is the wrong mindset. don't run toward the crowd, choose what you really need, and see the change. Thanks for your presentation, keep it up!
Your talk really inspires me. It opens up my eyes that instead of wasting time worrying and doubting too much about the future, just do something and be productive. Because " every single piece of knowledge that you're taking in will come back to help you at one point in your life".
I started to read books to reduce my stress. It has become my habit. Even though I am a korean, I did not choose Korean books. I read English books which were harder for me to read and understand. But I have kept reading them. It was gift from the heaven.
This year I am only 12 years old and also Vietnamese. I watched this video as part of my habit of listening to English, and I truly admire you. You speak English so well, your pronunciation is really good. You speak so eloquently, I admire that.
Her excellent presentation, pronunciation, and coherence is probably the example of great schooling lead by experts from an early age! And of course, she had practised more than some of you, who is worried that their English level is still behind compared to her at such a young age!
Steve Jobs did not graduate from Stanford. In fact, he was a college drop-out. He only attended one semester of classes at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He gave a commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005 but never attended the school.
Jobs didn't graduate from Stanford, he only had his famous speech there. I think because of he was wearing a graduate uniform like other students during the speech so she thought that he graduated there.
I respect her so much despite being a 16 years old. Her confidence is top notch and she is a great person. I would love to meet her just to ask her a tips on how to be confidence😁. What she speaks really represents her character and that is charismatic
the title already say it all. Ever since I came across this " People who don't read have no advantage over those who can't read" quote in the Miracle Morning a few months back now, I can't stop reading. I significantly transform all my thoughts now. I wish every Viet student would swim into this speech with enthusiasm. Such an awesome presenter btw
The first time I heard young people can talk smoothly like you, I really appreciate your presentation, I hope you will make more people enjoy reading book
Look at their faces, I feel like they didn't really get what she was saying. Most are Vietnamese. Imagine when you can't understand more than 1/10 of what someone says but have to sit, listen and pretend you get it all for more than 15 minutes... What would you be like at the end? 😆
I am extremely amazed by her presentation. It inspires me and gives me motivation to read book everyday. And i have a passion for books especially horror, politics, science. And i want you to know that what ever it is, keep yourself motivated, become an astute reader.
You made a really perfect speech. Your voice so nice, it's look like a foreigner voice, you are very confident. I admire you so much. Hope you can give more speech like that in the future
She's a best presenter, she has good gesture, clearly at speaking and i like her topic it's good for me to learn more about reading. Sorry for my English
This TED talk really forces me to think about reading and inspires me to read, which is the ultimate goal of such presentation. Keep up your work girl 💕
there are some of things which I don't personally believe and made me think for a while but it's good to see 16 years old doing ted talks, love from other side of world.
Well done, Phuong Anh. This is an excellent presentation with many clear good points. I'm a reader and your speech even inspires me to read and discover more. Thanks. Also, as a Vietnamese living and working in a English-speaking country, I have to say I'm amazed by your English accent. Love your presentation and your confidence on stage.
Thank you, this was a fantastic and well-presented talk. Having the insights and rationale and common archetypes and their solutions - really set this talk apart. A calm and steady presentation style made it perfect. I think the audience was way too thought-loaded that they forgot to clap a little louder 👏
I love your voice, really impressive and unreplacable. And thanks for encouraging me to investigate more problems I usually don't care when I read. But in my opinion, not every readers are leaders, but leaders are readers. Anyway, you rock girl!
Thanks Phuong Anh, firstly i did not dare to watch your speech, because lazyness and my boring in studying. You gave me a big wave of inspiration to keep going, thanks you.

The message is so powerfull, it make me enthusiastic more about books, to be honest, i am a bookworm so i am aware of how important the books are. But the very confused things often occurse to me is how i can choose the accurate book to read, i think i will look in to it more... Anyway the speech is amazing (:)

This got me thinking about reading again after not being able to due to my hectic schedule. But watching this, I now want to create and find time where I can just relax and read. Had a huge love for books since I was in 7th grade and I miss my love for it. Thank you for this 🙏🏾
My books are mostly about stocks (Burton Malkiel's "A Random Walk Down Wall Street"), economic science (Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking Fast & Slow)" and quantum physics (Carlo Rovelli's "The Arrow of Time" and Sean Carroll's "The Big Picture" & "Something Deeply Hidden"). Yesterday, me & my best friend had an argument and she told me not to be too bookish. Reading makes me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. So hearing her say that reading isn't practical and that it won't help me on making sound decisions, somehow hurt my feelings. :( But it won't stop me from reading books.
hello Phuong Anh To be honest, I am addicted watching your presentation. I have watched for like 10 times during the past week. You have an excellent accent and speaking skill. You will be an outstanding presenter and leader in the future. I also have some advice for you as a university lecturer. You should practice your body language and movement (and your pose). Find your best pose, pause it for a little more. Should not wander too much on stage and also, when you walk, should not make your steps horizontally. However, this is still an outstanding performance, especially for a little girl like you.
There is something from her that inspires me in a way I have no idea to express how it is, I even look for her channel to subcribe and watch a couple of her videos on TH-cam.
