  • One of Canada's least known treasures. This classic remake of the Rolling Stones "Under My Thumb" is one of the best covers ever. This video is also often credited as one of Canada's first music videos (unconfirmed). Best guitar solo... best drum solo... Rock on!!!

@@BamaMatters11 actually as someone who does get out more, it is one of the best... well suited for the song. Most solo are more showing off then fitting with the song. This one is perfect for the song. It starts off slow and builds up to a climate, it is perfect!!. You budding lead guitarist out there, learn from this one, on how to add to the band as you play, not competing with it.

So while his new band was looking for a record deal, he got to watch his old band sail up the charts

When the original band got back together for a week of special shows at the Rollin' Stone here in Winnipeg in the early '90s, I recall Kenny Shields in a radio interview, when saying they would only play songs from the first album, also say, "Paul Dean was still with us when we recorded Under My Thumb, so we'll probably do that." Under My Thumb was originally a special single released after the first album, and was added to later pressings of the second album. That's John Hannah in this video. So this was one of those cases where a musician is play-syncing to another musician's recorded work.

    • @djjamesfalk
      @djjamesfalk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cary3428 I should have edited this post years ago. That was supposed to say I'd always though Paul Dean was playing this rather than John Hannah. You'd think growing up in the era & then going on to spend the two decades working with each band dozens of times would have prevented such a misquote. With all that said, another poster quoted a Shields radio interview where the solo is credited to Paul Dean with John Hannah play play syncing, as was likely the entire band in this promo video.

Spider was a founding member of the band Streetheart prior to playing with Cochrane, making amongst others a live cover of "Under my Thumb". Loved Dave, and Spider. Dave looked like he lovvvved being a rockstar. Spider absolutely killed it on the bass, incredible talent. I remember when Streetheart first came out, as Canada's version of the stones. But they are much more

I once saw Hannah on Portage Ave in the early 80's, he looked like he weighed about 100lbs.
Saw these guys many times in the 70's and 80's, GREAT BAND

Hannah was my next door neighbour for 10 yrs
when I was a kid. Always very skinny and small,
and your likely right. Probably about 100 lbs, and
I wonder if he's alive today ? I do wonder. John
      was always very musically talented.

So stoked to see them at the Great Canadian Casino- Coquitlam- two original band members - lead singer was amazing- brought back so many memories seeing them in the Cave just before the release of their first album - they still rock!

I saw this live around 1979 when they opened for April Wine - who at one time opened for the Stones in a private TO engagement [Horeshoe?]
I went backstage after the show and the front-man was totally bombed!
    Rock & Roll!

Streetheart always put on a great show, every time. I was always amazed how Kenny Shields could run all over the stage and still sing in tune, an amazing showman! This song seems slow compared to the shows I remember, but this is one of my favourites! I love the Stones' version, but I love this one just as much...possibly more.

Seen them live in 2011 at Century Casino, Edmonton. Sound as good as ever, in fact playing again New Years Eve at Century on Dec 31, 2011.
