CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) infiltrates the Son'a ship.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Star Trek: Insurrection manages to recall the original 1960s series' spirit of liberalism, while transcending it for sheer boldness, embracing issues that are on the political cutting edge in the 1990s and beyond. The fact that the first 30 minutes are presented as a mystery only makes the material more engrossing. While assisting a survey team of Federation allies observing the populace of a distant planet, Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) seemingly goes berserk and attacks the survey team, exposing their existence to the populace and jeopardizing the mission. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) brings the Enterprise into orbit to try and apprehend Data and find out what happened . He discovers that the mission isn't one of observation, but the involuntary relocation of a small, peaceful population, undertaken by the Federation and its rogue planet allies the Son'a, supposedly to secure the planet's youth-restoring qualities. As it turns out, there's a much darker side to the plans of the Son'a, and a personal side to the carnage planned by the Son'a leader Ru'afo (F. Murray Abraham). Picard and his officers, suitably outraged by this violation of the Prime Directive -- that no Federation mission may interfere with the natural evolution of an alien culture -- take matters into their own hands in an attempt to expose the plot to public scrutiny, risking their lives in the process.

Patrick Stewart was in good shape for this film.
Chris Peplinski. Actually Patrick Stewart has been in good shape throughout his career💪🏼🎭🤩
He was 58 years old at the time of filming. Surprisingly decent physical shape. How many more stories could be filmed with this cast. It’s sad.
Keep in mind, a lot of this was stunt doubles doing the action.
Beefstew.
@@andrewmichaelscollectibles You just ruined the day for no telling how many Trekkies! LOL
“And set a collision course.” Riker goes big instead of going home
You don't often see unfinished blue screen effects on such an epic scale. This set is supposed to be the interior of the collector, which is in space. There's no way that background was intentional. They ran out of time or money.
I was wondering if this was a deleted scene but there was music and everything.
Either or. And then they had no chance but to roll with it, included the blue screen in those two effect shots (0:02 and 0:34) and called it a day. :D
True but it' kinda works, like some sort of energy manifold effect, Black and stars would look good in one frame but in others it would be unimpressive shadows.
Huh. I always thought it was part of the background!
Pretty sure it was intended. The background's hue is changing ever so slightly throughout the scene, and there are blue lights in the foreground when the supposed chroma key can be seen at the rear. Neither would be the case if it was set up for Blue Screen.
picard: are you really gonna risk igniting the exhaust?
bad guy *stops and thinks*
picard: alright, i will!
bad guy: NOOOOO!
did clint teach him that?
More like Arnold
"Ha! You think this is the real Quaid?"
__
"It is."
They've locked the shots off without accounting for any motion tracking I guess. So when it came to replace the blue screen with an external space scene looking down on the planet, it would have been impossibly hard with late 90s technology. It would be hard work even now, although the whole set would be CGI these days.
I honestly don't know why these later Star Trek movies get so much hate. Even my Dad hated them. Personally, enjoyed them a great deal especially with all the action involved. It astonishes me.
Star Trek Insurrection is reviled by because of its story. SFDebris and Confused Matthew explain that better than I but to put simply, it presents a moral issue that in theory should make you sympathetic to the Ba’ku but in practice, it shoots its message in the foot because the Ba’ku have no reason to be on the planet and the film is desperate to make you care for them, even using Data’s moral subroutines telling you who to route for.
And this is from a guy who actually LIKES Star Trek Insurrection.
Its a mix of contrarianism and changing standards. You were told it was bad but it wasn't that bad so you don't get what the big deal is. You see this literally in every fanbase.
In comparison to the TOS movies these were more like Action Trek, which put people off. I like First Contact and Inssurection, I hate Nemesis and I find Generations unnecessary.
The odd-numbered ones are always worse than the even-numbered ones.
@@Sovereign01 and they still ain’t bad. In my opinion. They more like a calm before the storm. 5 was a break before the finale which was 6. 5 was fun and 6 was dark and serious.
1:59, Love that line and scene xDD
Kirk, Picard, and Sisko: the only three captains who openly defied a Starfleet Admiral and didn't get court martial'd for it
What about janeway?
@@troyandrew6154 Janeway never defied an admiral due to being lost in the delta quadrant
And everyone else ends up either getting tossed out, or demoted like that 50-something, yellow-collar lieutenant relaying info to Riker. Guy looked old enough to be at least the same pay grade as Riker.
@@deathbykonami5487 ALMOST true! She did in fact defy her future self who was an Admiral that traveled back in time to rescue them through borg controlled worm holes.
Get your facts straight nerds! 😉
@@Bobby.Kristensen Semantics, really. I mean is it defiance when she ended going along with Admiral Janeway's plan but with a small adjustment added.
"too old for this" Where have I heard that before? Sergeant Murtagh from Lethal Weapon 4, I believe.
Hollywood really needs to stop making action movies out of things that aren't action movies.
It's just been revoked!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: “I’m getting too old for this sort of thing.”
Actually, all 4 Lethal Weapons lol.
That blue panels looks like some neutral texture for an unfinished digital effect...
Picard: You're really going to risk igniting the exhaust?
*Ru'afo hesitates*
Picard: Alright... I WILL!
Ru'afo: NOOOOOOOO!
2:06 "That was not Picard shooting, Father. It was God. That was God shooting at me through that obscene phaser. One day, I will shoot at you. Before I leave this universe, I will shoot at you."
--F. Murray Abraham, famous for playing Ahdar Ru'afo and Antonio Salieri
Couldn't resist doing this. 😛
LOL nice!
The actually left the blue screen part in. Oh my gahhhd...
They*
Added a uniqueness to it, albeit it being lazy
@Ian G
You're absolutely correct
The blue screen was diabolical
I would love to ask Jonathan Frakes why he just left it in
Even just making it black would have been better.
Kinda surprised it hasn't become a meme to chromakey this with weird things
I never understood how the shots from fazers in star trek and the shots from stormtroopers ect in star wars travel so slowly. It's the slowest 300.000 ish kilometers per second, i've ever seen.
No, no, no. They're waaay slower in Star Trek.
Look at Patrick's arms at 0:32, someones been hitting the gym!!

Picard: You're really going to risk igniting the exhaust?
Ru'afo hesitates
Picard: All right...I WILL!
Ru'afo: NOOOOOOO!!!
>Zap KABOOM<
LOL!!!
That's a pretty rare badass moment for Picard.
I thought he was more of a guy who uses diplomacy than violence.
I guess once in a while, a captain's gotta do, what you gotta do.
You will conform to starfeelt regulations and rules of conduct is that clear!

I have always loved that exchange!
Ha! You think this is the real Quaid?
“I’m too old for this s**t” - Murtaugh
Things like this are known to happen when you spend large chunks of your SFX budget on CGI squirrel pets, effect heavy scenes that were cut from the film after the effects were created, and the hiring of multiple guest actors to speak in scenes that were ultimately cut.
Do you have the clip where Ru’Olfo screams "Noooooo" and his forehead begins to bleed?
I always wondered how the Captain knew how to operate the center console to blow up the collector.
Because in star trek all the characters magically know how to operate alien consoles.
I noticed that even gul dukat knows how to operate federation consoles.
And klingons, romulans, and cardassians routinely try to sabotage federation systems.
The funny thing about Star Trek TNG movies, on the comments of each of those movies, I'll always read along of "This is the worst ST TNG movies". Seems like fans are quite evenly divided of what they think as the "worst" one. But they all have one commonality, that is they are really passionate in expressing their opinions of what they consider the worst.
It's easy. Generations and First Contact, good. Insurrection and Nemesis, bad.
@@godoflemmings17 Sorry dude.. Generations was just a boring TNG episode. Some people only like it because Data curses for the first time.
@@ud1444 In your opinion.
@@godoflemmings17 Ya, just like the one you posted friend.
Star Wars has the same problem now
Worf still kicks ass!
LOL this was an awesome movie, and still is. I just can't get over ruafo or whatever his name is. It seems he is such a coward. "Yeah, I got a gun picard, hahahahhaha, wait no, put your gun down! NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! don't shoot past me it's too dangerous! haha. still a great film :)
Lol press six enough times to see riker giving up.... *Fuggit!*
i wont lie this scene was not too bad.
Give Picard some credit, this time he did bring a Phaser with him. It was about fucking time if you ask me :)

@@chasdencole1413 Season 3 was

Literally every star trek show and movie is action based since the mid 90s
I don't remember Star Trek having THIS bad vfx.
1:39
this ending was reshot. the studio didnt like the first ending. which tbh they were right. so they added this. also they added the battle in the briar patch after the first cut as well. which is why that battle is just... meh. you think two exchanges of fire the whole battle and the rest is shown from inside the ships. i think we see the enterprise fire two torpedoes the whole time. so they wanted it, but time wasnt on their side. unlike nemesis where the big battle was planned from the beginning
Insurrection had the weakest plot, worst effects, worst acting, worst production design, and absolutely terrible direction.
The entire design of the son a wasn't very good but otherwise this is a much underrated movie
00:28.......mistake Worf. You shouldn't have turned your back on the enemy to get to the console and thus allowing them to overwhelm you. Should have kept front facing and carried on the fight, like a proper warrior! *shakes head* useless fool!
Jonathan Frakes must have either been given a lot less time or a lot less money for this movie, because he clearly put a lot less effort into directing it.
He did a better job than the director of Nemesis. Such an ugly and awkward film that was.
@@GeppettoProductions Insurrection had the weakest plot, worst effects, worst acting, worst production design, and absolutely lazy direction. Nemesis on the other hand was a billion times better than this crap. Better story, better effects, better sequences, and MUCH better directing than this lazy cash-grab.
@@mr.metamovies2419I disagree in regards to the directing of Insurrection and Nemesis. Nemesis was very poorly directed. Stuart Baird is a film editor by trade. and it shows. He cut out a lot of stuff. And the performances he got from the cast were the worst we've ever seen. Insurrection has a lot of issues and I agree with many of what you've listed. It was at least competently directed. Frakes knows how to direct the TNG cast, unlike Baird.
@@GeppettoProductions It should be noted that it wasn't Baird who cut those scenes in Nemesis. Rick Berman wanted a shorter theatrical runtime to get it to play at more theaters.
@@mr.metamovies2419 If you listen to the behind the scenes stuff and commentary it sure sounds like Baird is responsible. Baird says he wanted to "get to the action" "so I cut it".
A lot of enterprise nx01 set here which I didn’t realise before
2:00 to 2:08 you will conform to starfeelt regulations and rules of conduct!
Grady!
It feels a bit surreal to me but I just realized tng was only 11 years old when this movie came out.
I don't know how they thought putting nothing in the blue screen was a good idea. Have any fans done something with the blue screen here?
What was it originally supposed to be if it wasn’t blue screen?
To be honest, no one cares about Insurrection because it's beyond crap.
I honestly believe that it is a mistake - Same thing with the arabic numbers on the Son´a ships...
Action hero Picard
The villain's name is ru'afo
Adhar Ru'afo
My goodness... they didn`t even have the money to replace the blue-screen...
They at least added the CGI pits.
@@andrewshouse9840 Which were green screened in, not blue. Sadly, the blue walls aren't an unfinished key. They just actually designed them to look that way.

Picard didn't have his combadge on. How was Riker able to communicate with him?
Brandy and Mr Whiskers 😊.
Nobody'll notice the blue screen undone effects.
Someone should ask Johnathan Frakes about this exact scene.
imagine your set design being so lazy that people think your movie isn't finished....
Insurrection is beyond lazy, and poorly planned, playing it safe, playing it dull crap.
picard vs soren....picard vs borg queen, picard vs Rouafal, picard vs Shinzon..... all the same all with a weapon all trying to stop something. the actual scenes are all the same.
smolík jde za prachy
Riker, you shaved. Thats what ruined the movie, you shouod know that once you grew the beard TNG became much better
Technically he didn't do the shaving lol
If you ever see an episode with riker without a beard, with tasha yar, or with Dr. Pulaski, you know it will be one of the campy ones from the first two seasons.
Insurrection is damn good!
@@troyterry6919 though I've seen the odd episode here and there of TNG, I only started watching it properly this month. I've just finished season 1, and a couple of episodes of season 2. OMG the quality is all over the shop. Some good episodes, some great episodes, and some real real stinkers. I feel sad Tasha Yar's actress chose to leave so early: we barely knew her. Yet it's not all been downhill. Really excited to see the tonal shift when we hit S3
I am starting to make a star trek analysis channel- plot holes, pros and cons, etc. I have listed out a good dozen reasons why the style of the first two seasons mostly didn't work.

F. Murray Abraham is an amazing actor! but damn his character was so bad in this movie he just came across as a whiny cartoon like villian
Johnathan Frakes just literally told Abraham to just play it like a child in an old man's body.
I love Star Trek but Insurrection was terrible, it's a pretty crappy story line as well. This should have just been a regular TNG episode.
bluebull399 if you did not like it thats ok. I liked it!
It should’ve been a tie in to Star Treks DS9’s Dominion war

Lazy writing and lazy direction. Complete waste of an Academy award-winning actor.
ANND this is why i don't watch Star Trek ANYTHING
51 years, 5 television series, 600+ episodes and 13 movies. But you've judged the entire franchise after watching a two minute clip on youtube? Good work.
That's a little harsh. If you want to judge all of Star Trek, at least watch Wrath of Khan, or First Contact.
