One of my favorite items are the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength that drop in Arathi Highlands, That drop from the boulderfist ogres at the mound mid zone. Though both ogres there drop em, instead of one. May not be the strongest drop there (Tidal Charm takes that spot if I recall right) But it's nice to see a classic fantasy item like them in the game.
Oh, that's very cool indeed! The stats are great, and even though the Gauntlets drop from two types of NPCs I could still have included them on the list. The Tidal Charm is amazing but a bit special since it's BoP. The BoE Dark Hooded Cape is another strong contender from the Arathi Highlands. Still, the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength definitely have much more flavor to them!
The wetlands spider cave has another interesting drop from the same mob -> "Black Husk Shield" with an on-use effect: Use: Attempts to cure 1 poison effect on the target, and 1 more poison effect every 2 seconds for 8 sec. (5 Min Cooldown)
Yeah, that's a pretty cool item as well and very unique with the special on-use effect. I don't know if it has any clever uses anywhere that could add even more flair to it.
Love your videos man, just found this channel by chance. I'd just like to say there's 1 more item you could have mentioned. It's a fishing pole you can catch only from fishing in a few zones in the level 20-25 range. The Darkwood Fishing Pole is arguably the rarest fishing pole in the entire game. It is a level 15 fishing pole that increases fishing skill by +15 when equipped and it has a unique appearance of noticeably darker wood and gold metal trim. It is one of those semi-hidden items almost nobody knows about. As mentioned above, you can only catch it in 6 zones: Hillsbrad, Wetlands, Redridge, Duskwood, Stonetalon, and Ashenvale. It has a very low drop chance, about 0.05%. I haven't seen anybody on my realm with this fishing pole, nor have I seen it on the Auction House. I couldn't even catch it even after 3000+ attempts. Obviously, this item would have a major appeal to not only rare item collectors, but particularly level 19 twinks, as it is the best in slot fishing pole at that level. It can even be enchanted with the Eternium Lure from the Stranglethorn fishing event to add an extra +5 fishing skill. One final note about the Darkwood Fishing Pole is that it is non-binding. In other words, it can be sold even after equipping it yourself.
I'm very happy you enjoy the videos - thanks a lot :) That's an interesting item - a bit different to the items in the video, but still very special and only obtainable in a smaller number of zones (unless you buy it of course). I like that it's not just rare, but also useful for twinks as you mention. I haven't done much fishing myself in WoW, but based off your comment, I assume the Darkwood Fishing Pole provides the biggest increase in fishing skill of any fishing pole available at level 19. That will also better your chances of getting the Lucky Fishing Hat for example through the STV fishing event if I'm not mistaken (maybe I am). Still, pretty cool indeed!
Nice vid. There is a named elite hydra that can spawn in the big pool outside wailing caverns. Gesharan. Drops a blue offhand with +fire damage and a green two handed sword with a frost damage proc.
Thank you! Yes, I am familiar with that one and it is very cool. I think I saw it the first time on a private server when I flew over the area, and it really stands out. I've played a fire mage so I've been interested in the off-hand myself, and it's a great item. The effect on the sword is pretty neat, too!
Awesome stuff once again. I've always been interested in zone specific drops, it's like you're in my brain with the latest videos. Great stuff thanks again mate! Edit: Where does one find information like this?
Thanks a lot man! I'm happy the topic of zone drops is something you've been interested in and that you ended up enjoying the video :) I found the items on Classic Wowhead by looking at all the items in the database and then putting in zone filters. Click on "Additional Filters" - there's an option that says "Drops in... (Zone)" and you can choose the zone you want to look at. Click "Apply Filter", and after that you want to sort your results by "Source" - just click the "Source" button like you would sort a list of items by their item level (iLvl) or required level (Req.). A lot of the sources will be "Drop, Vendor", "Drop, Vendor, Pickpocketed" etc., but when you have scrolled far enough, and if the zone you are looking at has unique zone drops, you will find a section where the sources are named NPC liked Lo'Grosh, Dustbelcher Lord etc.
It looks interesting - slowest one-handed weapon in the game together with the Brushwood Blade I can see :D I must have glossed over Kovork's Rattle pretty quickly when I looked through the database for unique zone drops, but I can see why you mention it. The stats are good, and I guess it is very strong used as a main-hand weapon because of the slow speed. Are slow one-handed weapons as sought after as slow two-handed weapons?
Yeah, I didn't want to compare a BoP item to all the other BoE items, but I should have included it as an honorable mention since it is the best zone drop from the Arathi Highlands, and one of the best zone drops in general. I should have been more clear in that regard. Another reason not to include BoP items is to avoid world bosses which I didn't want to include, but the Tidal Charm is a bit different since it drops from a rare spawn.
Yes, I should have given him an honorable mention. My reason for not including him is that the Tidal Charm is BoP and not BoE like all the items in the video, but the Charm is definitely the best zone drop from the Arathi Highlands.
