Been daily driving my 84 C10 for almost twenty years. Mainly to drive to work. It’s had two transmissions, one engine replacement, starters, alternators, batteries and such in that time. Still, I have learned a lot working on it, and it’s cheap to buy parts. Plus, I get a lot of compliments which is always nice. Sometimes the little things like my doors, windows, and no AC frustrate me.

@@jamesbosworth4191 that kinda sounds like my grand marquis i used to have. Everything was broken so we made it all mechanical like oldschool. Steering a land boat without power steering is interesting to say the least. I miss that thing so much.

My first truck was a 1996 F350 with a manual transmission, I got a new flywheel but little did I know no starter has that type of teeth anymore because they’re prone to shearing, so no starter cause I can’t find one, I typically rely on hills to start it and if there aren’t any I just don’t turn it off, I have a little cord underneath the floor panel that secures the shifter so you can’t drive away, not that many people would want a rusty old truck. I bought that truck when I was 14 now at 31 I still drive the same thing along with the 10 other old trucks I bought for no more than 5K each, I have different beds on them all for different work on the farm, the only vehicle we own newer than 2000 is my wife’s car and the lawn mower, all of those trucks run great and now half of them are at 700K miles and still run just fine

Na, but seriously... I've been daily driving '70s Chevy's for over 20 years, don't own anything newer than '79, and I have no idea if any of my seat belts even work.
Old trucks aren't for everyone, but if you're willing to get the knowledge and take the time to keep them maintained properly, they can be just as reliable as modern trucks at a fraction of the price. I've never paid more than $1,000 for any truck I own... insurance is dirt cheap... antique tags don't need to be renewed every year... just pay the property taxes and you're good to go. Even my "fixer-upper's" that I've bought have only cost a few hundred dollars to get going again. I change oil in them once a year, fix things when they wear out, and maintenance still costs far less than monthly payments for a new truck.

I don't have a pickup but the one that I'd choose would be the 88 to 97 Chevy. GM did a great job developing it and it sold like hot cakes during it's nearly decade run. A solid and dependable truck that's still plentiful and parts for it can still be easily sourced and are still reasonably priced. I read something on the internet sometime back that says it's the next 55-to 57 Chevy Belair.

First truck I bought was a 72 F100 4x4 360 4 speed. 12 mpg, could start in 4th gear, had it over 100 mph. But was pretty scary to drive. Terrible steering and brakes. Felt like a tractor. Made driving an 18 speed overloaded semi easy.

I drive a 73 GMC C25, (3/4 ton is GMC speak), and I love it. Nice bench seat, column shift, no intrusive center console, and NO smog checks. My other car is a 54 Chrysler New Yorker station wagon. Yes, it's got a HEMI. I don't need a new Japanese car. They just don't appeal to me.
