Early. childhood education IS important!
Congressman Adam Schiff is a true statement, honorable and caring. He presents himself so beautifully. I'll bet he has a wonderful family, and I thank them for sharing him with us. I'm buying the book.
Why are people like Boebert, not required to have some literacy in the age of public education. I understand the qualifications in the constitution place no other requirement than age, but now, there is no reason for someone to not have at minimum, a high school education. The world is much too complex to allow people in Congress who cannot manage to complete basic public education requirements. Also, would a primer in constitutional roles of Congress ,for freshmen Congress members, help?
Your education and literacy comments are very timely. I hope you pursue your own suggestions and maybe consider putting them into a basic primer that could be incorporated in a middle or high school program. We need to catch them young.
Your statement is correct. You would think after going through the trauma of having a very poorly educated president "lead" for 4 years, let alone being subjected to his criminal tendencies, we'd have Constitutional minimum education (and history of good character?) mandates for government positions finally put in writing and amended! ... and yes, civics education for our young must be returned and made a permanent part of basic education, if democracy is to survive.

Had the Senate impeached trump, he would have no longer been eligible to hold office. Only 7 republican senators voted to impeach. We needed 8 more to have reached the requisite supermajority. Rarely in MY lifetime (57 years now!) have I seen an elected leader with your level of honesty and integrity, as well as an understanding of why you were sent there. As I have watched politics closely for almost 60 years Adam Schiff is to me one of the most slimy politicians I have seen. I listened to him time after time go on interviews and TV and just lie about the opposition in the most disgusting way. Even when it was proven that he had lied, he never backed down or apologized just repeated his lies. I understand politicians go out of their way to present the party narrative which is usually vague and often misleading at best, but Schiff is one of the worse.
Yes, an honest, admirable man, as seen from far away in Oz 🇦🇺 I feel so sorry about what has happened in the poor old USA and across the world as a result. Sad, pathetic, despicable trumpism and GOP hypocrisy. It is so terrible to see it continue. And terrible to see that the US is an object of pity because a third of its people are so easily conned. Never assume that trump can’t

in order to make it more difficult
to vote. We need to be realistic about the threat that trump still

I wonder if Schiff was partly referring to the oncoming pandemic when he said "You know (Trump) won't do the right thing." It was Feb. 5, 2020, I think. Does anyone know?
I'm not sure if Shiff had been briefed on the virus to the degree Trump had, however it is clear that Trump didn't do the right thing on MANY things, so it's hard to say.
Trump decided early in his Term to downplay the virus, and shutting down government 3 x took away functionality from efforts to mitigate the virus to anything other than pandemic
At a minimum, even guessing an answer to your question requires that the CONTEXT of the conversation and question posed to Schiff on 2/5/2020 be known. What was the conversation and or question posed to Schiff? BTW: Schiff already had PLENTY of firsthand trumpian experiences to confidently state "You know (Trump) won't do the right thing."

Adam Shift is equally eloguent, intelligent, consummate, and he expresses the core values he sincerely expouses and embraces. He is not a fake person like Donald Trump.

I didn’t vote for Biden because he was not the visionary we needed. What I got instead was a person with the experience and the determination, to bring about dearly needed change. My disappointment on losing on Election Day may ultimately turn out to be one of the biggest wins of my life. An administration initiating change that results in saving democracy, tacking income inequality and tacking climate change can be considered a reasonably effective administration.

I also think that she is also not professional in her question asking, it seems pretty choppy and hard to follow the questions at times. Adam is awesome! He is focused and answers everything eloquently.
This could not be a more serious interview about the survival of democracy in America. Certainly the Commonwealth Club could have found someone more qualified and mature to interview Congressman Adam Schiff.

The interviewer needs to learn not to giggle all the time. It's a classic mistake that many women make when discussing a serious matter or interviewing someone regarding a serious subject - they're embarrassed and fear coming off as uppity or pushy or all the things men have always accused smart women of being. She should own her own intelligence and respect her own professionalism and simply converse as any man would converse - without giggling.
Who are you 👀to be judging her performance can you do better?
The most important criticism would be the substance of her questions. I have watched male interviewers who laugh all the time or move their legs crossing one side to another but these comments were missing. I understand your comment but I feel that we are much harder on females.

The classical role of government is to tax away economic rents and use it to lower the cost of production. This is done through subsidies for such things as public infrastructure, education, and health care, not raising the cost of living and therefore the cost of labor, as with monopolistic privatization.
The problem with economics as it is understood in America, is that there is no distinction between wealth production and wealth extraction. Production of goods and services speaks for itself, but monopolies and the banks (FIRE, finance, insurance, and real estate) extract what is called economic rent. In the US, economic rent is counted as an addition to GDP, when in fact it is an extraction from GDP. The free market Adam Smith talked about is free FROM economic rent, not free FOR economic rent.
This is Industrial Capitalism (China) as opposed to Financial Capitalism (USA), and it is what the conflict is really all about.
American democracy is entirely theatrical with the majority having no more effect on the rentier oligarchy than the Chinese majority on the Communist Party of China.
If the US was a democracy, we would have a decent minimum wage, public health care, free education, parental leave, and gun control, to name a few, all by the expressed will of the majority.
By definition, an oligarchy is a form of government in which power is held by a small number of people. Republics are a type of democracy in which the people elect representatives to create and vote on legislation, rather than voting on that legislation themselves.
We have institutionalized opposition at best, not representation at all.

I'm so glad to hear Adam bring McConnell down way back before trump. Because I bring that incident about allowing Obama appoint Garland as a justice in the supreme Court. He obviously hated Obama, but had to be cordial because of respect of office. Not the man. McConnell was sick long ago.

This interviewer laughs at the most inappropriate moments. Surely, the Commonwealth Club has other people to select from to interview serious subject matter as this one.
The judicial branch is not co-equal with Congress. The Constitution only provides for a Chief Justice who is appointed by the President, with the advice and consent of the Senate. That officer's charge, the federal judiciary, is derived solely from Congress through federal statute, up to and including the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice of the United States only presides over the Supreme Court by act of Congress; there is no such thing as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Congress is the foremost branch of government. It is the expression of the People's Sovereignty. That is why it is the subject of Article I.
