      Thanks mate. What I would say.....if i owned a 2.7 Cayman I'd be totally happy with it as it is a fine sports car. Pretty much everyone in the Porsche community knows that this is not a Cayman S......theres plenty of tell tale signs that this is a Cayman and not a Cayman S.

    The 981 is a superb CRUISING car with more than enough horsepower weighing about 3000 lbs. Mine is a 2014 year, purchased new. The amenities were very expensive. Ie, Just the twin tailpipes were $500. The upgrade stero system is amazing and pdk is incredible. It's a true definition what began in the 1930-s European sports car - 2 seater, excellent handling + braking, economical, but not a convertible. It is anything but a poor man's Porsche. I thought BMW's handle well; however, a Cayman is in a league of its own.

    I have the 981. Sport Chrono, PDK, Sport, Sport+, Sport Chassis and Sport exhaust. It's 20mm lower than a STD Cayman. I love this car when you push the Sport+ button and shift with the paddles. The sound when shifting up and down, WOW. The cracling on downshifts and the loud "boom" on upshifts.

    So you're saying that the NA feels less responsive than a turbo

    • @DownShiftThrottle
      @DownShiftThrottle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes because in most modern turbos the torque kicks in around 1700rpm. Obviously in a NA car the torque is progressive hence at low speeds it feels lethargic. As is the case with the E90 V8 M3 v the F80 6 cyl twin turbo M3....and many other cars. The fun factor though of a NA car is unparalleled as you constantly chasing the red line

    My 2016 981 Cayman manual 2.7 redlines at 7600, not 9000 rpm, as stated. Regarding power, I am less interested in street racing off lights than in its manual shifting and its cornering abilities. It is not a track racing car, but the 165 mph top end has proved more than sufficient even on the isolated, long, straight secondary highways and backroads of New Mexico. I would much rathe drive my 981 than my son's 2021 tuned GR Supra which now has about 500 hp and 0-60 in about 3 seconds. Fortunately, he has a 911 to drive also.

But the maintenance is not that cheap compared to a hot hatch I guess considering the parts are expensive and the access to the engine is not easy. Plus you are spending money on a toy/second car not on a practical car otherwise it’s even more affordable.
