We are from the Navajo nation. Our mother raised us in central Washington state where we lived in Yakima Wa. She worked for the B.I.A in toppenish. We had met and made friends with some Yakima natives and showed us how to fish using the pole/net system. Huge steelhead and bigger fish are in those waters! Was an amazing life living with the NW natives and their rich culture.
I took the riverboat tour at cascade lock. That is a beautiful area to fish. I saw it 2 weeks before the big fire started. I couldn't believe my eyes. Pristine forest burning over carelessness. Glad I saw it before it happened. Oregon is a beautiful state.
The people fishing are the indigenous people who have fished this river, this way, for thousands of years. they take what they need to feed their families. Many of the fish caught are raised from eggs in a hatchery and released as smolt every year. Those fish caught are a fraction of the total run of salmon up this river. The building of dams on rivers such as this one has reduced the populations of salmon and other species far more than dip nets ever have. If you still disagree, then by all means, read up on the indigenous people of the USA and find out how they lost their land, their way of life and their traditions because of colonization as well as the damage done to ecosystems by erecting dams that block fish passage. Thank you
So native Americans have done this for thousands of years. Sure they used less modern equipment back in the day. How many fish never even got here because they were caught downriver by hordes of boats? We should ask them for a chance to fish on the their rivers not the other way around.
I was fishing the Klamath river once, was on reservation property but was unaware. Game Warden rolled up and told me. I asked him why all those shopping carts were in the river. He said the native americans put the there, lay them on the side, salmon swim into them and cant get out, they come along flip the cart and take the salmon.

joseph bantog because their native and the natives can fish however they want it's part of their tradition it sucks for us fisherman that have to fish the right way
Todd McEwen negative..... Roe is a large source of income. Most times the carcass is left on the bank. The roe is sold to Japan well above the cost of the actual fish.
some of these comments are ridiculous, the Yakama Nation has been doing this for hundreds if not thousands of years, and for people to say that they are decimating the Salmon population is outright ignorant. 1st of all they are upstream, the commercial fishing occuring is what is decimating the population.
Seals and pollution are probably worse than commercial fishing. These tribes are not subject to any law. They take whatever they want, they litter and they often let fish they catch rot. When a white man can have his boat taken away for an illegal king salmon and a native can string a net across a river and kill scores of them with bicatch something is seriously wrong.
I live in the state where this is being done and let me tell u there are strick laws that are very in forced on limits and methods. Not to mention all those fish are spawning and will die no matter what. Looked like good numbers.
I am completely against the "native way". Im no anthropologist, but I'm sure the "natives" didn't use aluminum or PVC dip net guide poles. My ancestors fished with dynamite, is that still ok to use?

Iya yg pada akhirnya habislah ikan dalam sekejab karena penangkapan ikan yg tidak ramah lingkungan. Kalo kata lainnya...rakus

One of the most beautiful stretches of river I have ever seen in person. Too bad the tribe doesn't care enough about it to pick up their garbage.
They are more messy than the hillbilly meth heads.
Amaging water flow and nice technique of fishing...
Great 👍very beautiful place
I find this place of phishing is very good. Please tell me where this place is in the world.
This is the Klickitat river in WA state. Only native Americans are allow to net fishing.
and here I am using corky and unbarbed hooks like fool.. where does one get those type of nets ? I'm in ...
This is the tribe's fishery and they deserve it ,they have it well regulated with a hatchery and an excellent program.
That’s my fish
they all are chinese, not native american

@@enugomontoya6050 those hordes of boats can only catch two fish each person

those fishes are swimming upstream to lay their eggs on the upper part of that river. why are they catching them?

Production fishing to feed your family for a year. It’s the commercial greed in salt water that is destroying the fishing not these guys.
It's both.
