- This was an advertisement for a project to port Xen to SFM. Unfortunately we came across some nigh-unfixable problems with that. However, a port to Source 2 is well on its way and practically complete! Stay tuned for some Source 2 Black Mesa content!

Why an M.I.T scientist would drink that?
Because there is evidence that it may heal the injuries he sustained over the last 2 days of fighting. He’s survived so far mostly because he hopped up on drugs, and he figures the trip to kill the nihilanth may end up being a suicide mission anyways. In or there words, it’s a “well it’s worth a try” situation. Me and my followers planned this video out as well as we could back when we made it, we strive to stay as realistic as possible. The blue water (in terms of realism here) cannot peremeat Gordon’s suit. It’s basically an armored hazmat suit after all. The only way for Gordon to come in contact with the liquid is through the only exposable part of his body, his head.
The laptop (as well as the mixing instruments nearby) were placed there by me to show Gordon that the liquid is undergoing testing, but has proven to have beneficial effects. Spoiler alert, we've decided that while the blue liquid can repair tissue, it cannot remove matter that has been displaced. In other words, while his organs may be healed, he still has blood and other matter trapped in his body that shouldn't be there. The liquid can only create, not move, displace, or remove.
We've also decided that the liquid (as a side effect of growing quickly to repair the body) also causes a fast acting cancer. Gordon would have died as a result of drinking non-FDA-approved space liquid xD. Thankfully he will live long enough to kill the nihilanth, and have his body mysteriously restored to its natural state by Gman before being put in stasis. Unfortunately, while his body will be completely repaired by Gman (including the cancer) his mind will not, and he will suffer from the effects of extreme PTSD for the remaining HL games.
As for HL2, we already have another canon example of a healing substance in the form of Antlion goo. A processed version of this (perhaps adapted by the human-Overwatch arm) is safe for use by humans with most likely little side effects. Its probably the reason why Alyx can survive an HEV's worth of damage without an actual suit, she just has to make sure she never gets shot in the spine, brain, and probably heart.

i always wondered that too, like how can gordon carry weapons like a rocket launcher when the suit was designed for safety first, combat second, and never had heavy weaponry in mind
but seeing his improvised ways of carrying them around is even better than i thought
@@jockeyfield1954 Well, the boot up sequence for the Hazardous Environment Vehicle used in Black Mesa mentions a "defensive weapon selection system" or something like that. Not sure if its in the og Half Life game tho

Great animation! Only thing I find weird is the camera, it's flying around way too much. I'd prefer to have mostly static cameras with limited movement to feel more realistic and "cinematic", and more cuts instead of flying the same camera from shot to shot
I am TERRIBLE with cinematic camera angles... which is why i'm primarily a first person animator.
Every time I watch this I get a headache ;-; xD

yeah it's always better to treat the camera as if it's on a tripod or a crane or something.

I originally thought that Gordon can carry all these weapons thanks to the suit that turn them into small, very small things and get attacked on the suit. All what he has to do is to hold one of them to transform into a weapon. That's how I thought first.

First person does create immersion, but third-person is way more cinematic and does foster the opportunity to build more upon the character (tho it's way more work).

I love that Gordon carries all his weapons on his back, we really need that someone to do it seriously without exaggeration. The whole community paints him ridiculous and makes stupid theories that he has a materializing field of things on his back and gets his guns. OMG.
Well Gluongun is only thing that breaks it, its shown with a massive ghostbusters like backback assembly, i never really used gluon gun preffering Tau all the time, tho maybe it could work if it was combacted down. It works perfectly without Gluon gun and especially in HL2 since there arent as many weapons on Gordon there. Plus story wise it makes even more sense since HEV suit is so utilitarian so Gordon is just using mounting points for tools and other equipment to holster weapons on his back and on the other parts of the suit.
My headcanon is that the scientists teleported Gordon's bulkier weapons into Xen in the canisters when he needed it. There's no way he could carry an RPG, a tau cannon, a gluon gun and a jetpack simultaneously, there just isn't room. He could probably lug around two or so at a time though
I reckon his weapons should be inside the suit compartments, like robocop.

For those who are confused, this is not going to be included in my official web series. I wanted to try this scene in third person, in celebration of an actual WORKING Xen map in SFM.
I will redo this scene in first person, with better liquid effects in first person for my series.

How can Barney survive in Xen without a helmet? Hell, how do Xenians survive on earth? There’s got to be some kind of compatibility we don’t see...
I like the attention to detail, the fact that he wears a helmet and carries his weapons on him instead of a pocket dimension is good detail (Gordon does wear a helmet in the game, because how would he have a Heads Up Display, not turning into a zombie from headcrabs, and what would be fatal gunshots repeatedly to the head, he wears a helmet or else he would've died a looooooong time ago)
In "Half-Reality" Gordon won't wear a helmet until he gets on in the Lambda Armory.
The helmet argument is as old as time, and there's plenty of evidence for and against him wearing one... so I just decided to go with the best compromise, the more cinematic and dramatic one of him not wearing one for the majority of the time. It gives Gordon a weakness, something to make sure he isn't an invincible super soldier or something.

@@djtrac3r935 Both "sides" of the "argument" consider it "debunked" at this point because there's honestly good evidence and arguments going both ways, no real official position(from currently employed members of Valve) as of yet (though it seems to possibly lean towards no helmet unfortunately), and no point nor use arguing it any more until new information surfaces, because there's simply no more ground to be gained. Just personal head-can-ons.

We did think of that. Unfortunely, I forgot to implement it... rest assured, we are very aware of Gordon's appearance and injuries when it comes to the rest of the series x3

But my series is a realistic adaptation, so he won’t. BUT the lambda team will send him a gluon gun for the long Xen elevator ride
And to use it he will put it on the floor and balance it with his foot and hold the nozzle in his hands like normal

The HEV Mark 4 visor is likely just very tinted, if you look at the Lambda Teleporter operator (the guy in the booth connected to a catwalk) he is wearing tinted goggles. I imagine they do the same for all HEV suits because you cannot look at the teleporter powering up because it is too bright.

I added all the sounds in premiere pro (post-production) I also took audio from Black Mesa gameplay and aligned it with where the camera was looking, which saved me a lot of time. I do not add sound through SFM unless I am syncing the character's voices.
I did not pay him. As long as it brings more attention to his channel, I think he might do it for free?

I didn't use a program, I just used BM's and SFM's hammer programs depending on what needed to be done.
All of the Earthbound maps are done (except for most of Xen sadly), if you want them you can contact me through email or discord and i'll give ya some
I haven't released them publicly yet because I want to make a guide on how to use them, along with a fun trailer.
