@@MrFreezebook21 I don't think so. Did you see the last Harimoto vs Lebrun match? Felix got destroyed. Even if he has a better world ranking doesn't mean he IS better.
Fan Zhendong got destroyed! Unbelievable!😮 Wang played with a very good tactic, to play multiple backhands with variety, and the last to Fan's forehand breaking his rhythim.💯🧠 Unexpected result!
This is just one match. It means something, but not everything. TT viewers have this bad tendency to make conclusions about a player based on just one match. Remember Frankfurt? Lin yunju beat everyone including wcq. But how he performed this time around? If these results indicate anything, it’s that we now are in a time in TT when none of the top players can dominate every time. Everyone has a chance against every one. The rest of the world is slowly catching up to china’s level. It’s a good thing. It makes paris more exciting to look forward to.
FZD from the start just didn’t look like himself. By the fourth game he almost looked defeated or like he couldn’t play to the best of his ability. Wasn’t moving well. Not taking anything away from WCQ, I just think we got FZD at 60% today.
Fan was not in good health condition, he got a flu a week ago and not fully recovered, that's why he was pale and tired. Wang played very well honestly, but he used illegal services in a few key points which helped him even unbeatable. All these might destroyed Fan's interest in the last game.
@shirleynew3233 Yeah, I figured it had to be something like this. You never see him play that passively or almost give up. Even during the short time he was going through an adjustment on his equipment he would still easily get to the ball. This has to be extremely frustrating because you can prepare 7 or 8 hours a day for months and when the moment comes, something comes up you couldn’t have prepped for.
It's an eye-opening experience to observe how the Chinese players have dominated the WTT. The impressive ability to handle, the speed and reaction, and execute skill is remarkable.
For a complex sport as table tennis, it's pretty pathetic to have commentators that can't add any sort of value to the match itself. No commentary on tactics whatsoever, just random mumbo jumbo. At least they should try and get a pro player as a guest commentator. But the current state of table tennis commentary is subpar. Bring a local pro player to commentate, like they did for 2021 WTT Worlds when they brought on Jimmy Butler, who provided valuable commentary insight during matches.

The commentators very likely don’t know the equipment but here’s 90% of the Chinese team: Blade: Viscaria Fh: Hurricane 3 Backhand: Hurricane 3 or Tenergy/Dignics
@@whatevereyewant Fan uses the Fan Zhendong ALC (not super, not ZLC, just regular ALC which is basically a fancy viscaria). Forehand is hard DHS Hurricane 3, and Backhand is Butterfly Dignics 09C. Forehand and Backhand are DHS Hurricane 3, most likely a 42 degree on forehand and 37 degree on backhand, obviously boosted.
not covering his middle very well this game, and has tactics game has been off lately. His placement just isnt very good lately. He is used to pounding the ball to the same spot and the opponent just getting overwhelmed and hitting it long. That isn't really working anymore, and Fan doesnt know what to do. Wang Chuqin on the other hand has the control and the tactics, with the spin and speeds to capitolize on it. Fan just needs to study this game and watch what Wang did against him, and lean from it. Target the elbow more, take control with the third ball better, control the ralley better not with power but with placement and consistancy.
A not so quick comment on the tactics used in this game for anyone wondering how this could have happened to the world number one. Perhaps Fan was a bit ill, perhaps he was a bit out of form, but there is no denying that he also got completely outplayed. But, this doesnt mean Wang Chuqin has all of a sudden cemented himself as the new worlds best player. Fan will need to learn and adapt his style a bit, but I still believe he can stay on top for a few years longer (I do have a bias towards Fan, I love his playstyle). Now, for the tactics and mistakes that I noticed while studying this game. On Fan's end, I believe he is having to adjust to the new tendancy of players to rush the table, not give up much distance, and counter what looks like finishing shots. Fan is used to getting more passive, uncontrolled returns from his power loops, which allow him to finish the point. But he is getting that response less and less recently, and is struggling to adapt. His number one mistake in this match is placement. He just hit too many shots without thinking, looping straight into Wangs backhand and allowing him to block and counter as he pleased. Fans main tactic throughout his career has been power power power. Which brings me to Wangs tactic, which obviously worked way better. You can see throughout that Wang seems to be returning shots a bit slower than Fan, giving up a bit of distance from the table and spinning the ball a bit more rather than driving through like Fan loves to do. But by doing this, Wang Chuqin gives himself a fraction more time to react, to think, and to control the match. And he did so not just with power, not just with spin, and not just by targeting the wide corners and killing the ball at every chance. He did it by reading the spin and placing the ball strategically and purposefully, often straight into Fans elbow, forcing Fan to hit a more passive forehand. I honestly had a bit of a revelation from this, and I realized that no matter what tactic you employ, the general rule of thumb and the overarching goal of all these different playstyles and tactics in Table Tennis is to give yourself more TIME! Wang did this with his slightly slower, spinnier shots, and with his perfect placement that forces Fan to play a bit more passive, be that wide corners or the elbow, and just consistently catching Fan out of position. Fans tactic for giving himself more time is to pound the ball as hard as he can and hope the opponent misses the counter or blocks the ball passively, giving Fan time to pound the ball again. Harimoto makes time for himself by blocking a lot, and we also saw that from Waldner and Samsonov. Ma Long does something similar with his backhand as well, giving himself more time for the forehand kill. And choppers obviously make time for themselves by stepping far from the table and floating the ball over the net, although that is an outdated tactic nowadays. But, the more I thought about it, I realized that time is the key to the top players being able to stay on top. I just now realized this, and now I have a general rule and a way to rationalize why I might be losing certain matches. Maybe I could have said all this with less words, but the college writing word count requirement in me has forced my writing style to just blabber on and on. For the one person who makes it this far, thanks I guess. Heres to hoping that Fan can learn for this loss and continue on to win the Olympics!
Fan started well but some how lost the game plan.. Wang played short balls and prevented long rallies and controlled the game interesting strategy! nice match! 😊 Congrates Wang!
