I feel like the rule need to be specified if the receiving player has to get ready for the serving player or if the serving player has to wait for the receiving player. Alexis always serves without waiting if the opponent is ready or not. I would prefer the server to serve when the receiving player is ready.
No it shouldn't. The chinese are notorious to be very long between serves to dictate the timing of the game but it is against the rules to stall the game. That's why FZD got a yellow card.
The best way to avoid the ambiguity is to implement a time clock (as soon as the previous point is over) as in tennis. In this way, it would be fair for both the server and the receiver.
This umpires that don't understand table tennis and ever played table tennis are ruining the sport. The player needs time to think about the game to think on the opponent and oneself; table tennis is not just hitting hard nonr rushing the serve, the player needs to calm down the nervousness to think on the game, relax the legs after vigorous efforts, needs time to choose the next serve Do i do a setup serve, what he is doing now, what are my options that are more profitable to fabricate points, Do i gamble on the serve, 3rd ball attack, 5th ball attack, Do i take advantage of my opponent footwork or anticipation. Table tennis is more than hitting hard but What do this umpires know they never played table tennis in their life.
Completely agree! The beauty and power of TT is that the players have to plan and adjust to what their opponents did or going to do next. I have always said that one day they might change the shape of the TT ball to limit the success of the Chinese national TT team.
Fan ZhengDong has a magnificent control of his emotions. And, I find him to have a very expressive, gentle face. You don't have to call anyone anything especially if you haven't carefully examined or tried to understand it
