Wow. You just combined my stressful photo realism with loose watercoloring.. My son has been encouraging me to be more abstract and let my mind relax.. You somehow help my mind click with this layering idea. Love it! Excited to try this

When it comes to art it should be enjoyable, if its giving you stress thats not good. Worried you much smudge something you’ve been working on for a long period of time isn’t fun either. The true joy of watercolor is to fully enjoy it and that comes when you allow it take you on a journey instead of you taking it on one. Just give yourself permission to play and at times make a huge mess. If you watch enough of my videos you’ll see my work space around me is always a mess, but thats called freedom and joy. Enjoy!

We were really impressed with how well the puddles and runs were handled, and actually used as an advantage! We think this technique could also work if the canvas sheets were mounted to hardboard (masonite) panels using gloss acrylic gel medium. We're curious to hear suggestions for presenting and framing finished art done in this technique!

Ahhh yes, it would have helped, I need to get one!!! As far as what I’m going to do with the art, so far I’ve photographed it and added it into a digital piece. But the sky’s the limit with what I could do with it, my mind spinning with ideas! Lamp shade, sewing it together with more canvases, or just making a wood stretcher mounting it like normal…but that would require for me to be normal 😂 Thanks for watching my videos! 😀

I love your loose technique. I'm currently working on a watercolor canvas piece 24x36 I also got at Hobby Lobby. I find it more forgiving than wc paper. You can also "wipe out" great light tones and highlights. I will definitely look for this pad. My wife gave me one of her makeup brushes for my art, after seeing this I'll give it a try. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art.

    • @debralynrosenbachart

Hi Larry. The colors were much brighter when dry, as the pigment sat more on the surface instead of sinking into the paper. Does it wrinkle…on this painting, no. Has it in the past, yes a little. I didn’t use the cotton this one because i was digging through my papers and found that pad and a light bulb went off and i thought, oh wow…FUN! …It was just what I need to change things up.
