I played both and was really surprised to see you rated Dealt! higher than Scout. Of all the groups I played with, no one want another game of Dealt! but they keep coming back to Scout. The ability to play longer trick, scout from other players' tricks, and do both at the same time just feel so good. With Dealt!, you are just waiting for other players to fail

Amazing comparison!! Funny enough your con on Scout being different at different player counts is actually a huge plus for me.
Another interesting thing to note is that card you take up and put into your hand is someone else's in Scout, but only from your own reserve in Dealt. Interesting differences on tactics vs strategy

Just finished my 30th 2 player game of Scout. No problem with card quality and we really enjoy the 2 player version!

Do we know that Scout was "clearly inspired by" Krass Kariert? They were published only a year apart, so it's possible they were originally designed independently of each other.

A year is about perfect timing to play something and gets a game out inspired by it. I don’t know for sure but it would be a crazy coincidence of those two mechanisms of playing cards only next to each other and being able to pick cards up to place anywhere in your hands.

Thanks for your review. I just ordered Scout after seeing so many positive reviews on You Tube board game channels. Looks like a good family game that a wide variety of players can enjoy. I haven’t heard of Dealt until this review and comparison. May need to give it consideration.

My Scout cards in the Oink version are really good...not super-thin like you mention here....not sure why....

Wow! Thanks for bringing Dealt! to my attention. Scout is currently very hard to get hold of, so Dealt! my be a good substitute.🧡

I had been to my FLGS looking for Scout, nope. I asked the clerk and he said Oink games release new printings once a year so they have to order enough copies to stock for a year.
He said Oink usually releases new printings around midyear.

Those are "ladder" games, inspired by other ladder games (like Tichu, Haggis, etc), and in this case clearly also inspired by Bohnanza (a non-ladder card game where you can't reorder cards). Whenever a new game comes up in a genre, it tries to bring something new, and Scout brings the inverted cards, the scouting aspect, and (compared to Dealt but not new to the genre) the ability to play more than 3 cards. I really like all of these aspects combined, especially the ability to play huge runs which I find very satisfying when you pull it off.

I’m glad you enjoy Scout Lionel! I’ve also met many (like Bezier Games Designer Ted Alspach) that also prefer Dealt and feel it had longer staying power

Thanks so much for this. Scout is on my buy list, now I may have to change it to Dealt

I think some players will prefer Scout, but hopefully my comparison will help you see which one might be better for your play style

When I bought it a couple months ago it seemed readily available here.

Reliability of SDJ has plummeted in recent years.
