hai ragione Puccini è parte importante del melodramma italiano e la Sua musica è bellissima anche se tecnicamente e difficile, ma Beethoven e Wagner sono un altro genere

Mahler hated him, apparently. I still think Mahler writes for the voice in more exquisite and subtle ways esp. in symphony no. 8

Is this a Commercial for Ferrari? If not, it is of very bad taste...

I'm sure (if memory serves) that later in the documentary Pappano talks about Puccini's love of cars, particularly Ferraris.

@@263Adder Puccini was nuts about cars. He spent a small fortune on them, and nearly killed himself in one.

Christian Cervetti Do your home work on Puccini before you take a jab at Italian cars.

@@263Adder Ferrari and Puccini? Impossible. Guess why, in the early 1900s...

Its interesting how its usually the mediocre composers who become fabulously rich. I am referring to nonentities such as Meyerbeer, Halevy, Puccini, etc.

Puccini is arguably the most overrated composer I know about. Tosca, for instance, is melodramatic trash with the occasional elegant melody. In fact, Puccini specialises in melodramatic trash. When one compares Puccini's operas with those of Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner one realises what an atrocious mediocrity he really was. He has _nothing_ to say; but, admittedly, he does have some decent tunes!

SONO differenti generi e poi definire Puccini un atroce mediocrità vuol dire non capire niente circa il melodramma italiano sarebbe il caso che studiasse le sue opere

Nah nah if you want to see an overrated composer look no further than Hans Zimmer. Guy gets praised for the most basic cinema music

sorry im not a opera snob like you but what i hear from puccini i just love, thats what matter. im a rocker by nature and is puccinis music got me interested in opera not beethoven , or wagner . i love mozart and verdi , my hearing doesnt lie when i hear a great musical score and that is the reason i love puccini its very emotional from the heart and soul. my wife cried like a baby in lebohem and madam butterfly , she didnt cry with beethoven or wagner thats the bottom line. im a spaniard so i understand a few words in italian.

@@littlebigjohn69 So, if I criticise a composer you like then I am a 'snob'? I suppose Mahler, Fürtwangler, Barenboim, etc., must also be 'snobs' given that they also thought that Puccini's music is sentimental drivel of the worst kind. Puccini's music does not reflect life, so it is not really art.
