    He reminds me of a Pakistani ex of mine. Our first date I told a story about getting a red BMX for my 6th birthday and he told me about stealing his neighbour's donkey cart and joyriding through the village with his brothers. It was the most hilarious culture clash.

    Pakistani here. It kinda depends on the family he was raised in, and his immediate community, but I dont want people to get the impression that Pakistanis are a bunch of socially awkward weirdos. 182 million population, so it's not like one big homogenous culture (which of course the US isn't as well. Different regions of America have completely different cultures) Just wanted to get that out there.

      Thanks I am Indian and I totally get it myself. He probably grew up in an all boys boarding school over there and never had the chance to pursue higher education there which is co-ed and I'm sure he would have been able to shake a woman's hand at that point!

    • @inayarizwanharoon758

      Yasmine Xo Actually Kumail Nanjiani went to Karachi Grammar school (same school as I go to now) which is a highly selective and extremely liberal school in Karachi. It's co ed and we have proms and people date and everything so it's highly unlikely that he's never shaken hands with a woman. This is most likely a joke or one giant innuendo :)

    Oh, God, where I live there is this rule that you're not supposed to shake a woman's hand first - you're supposed to wait till she extends her hand first, because you must let her decide whether she wants to shake hands with you. But almost nobody knows why this rule exists - they only know the "don't shake a woman's hand" part. So whenever I try to shake a guy's hand they leave my hand hanging or straight up say something like "What's your problem?". It's sooooo annoying to me, so impolite.

    • @cortster12
      @cortster12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +corhydron111 But you know that they don't know, so why would it be impolite? That's some next level triggering.

    • @corhydron111
      @corhydron111 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I mean if somebody extends their hand to shake yours and you say to them, angrily "What's your problem?" and then leave their hand hanging, then how is it NOT impolite. Even if you're unaware of this rule, you can infer that it is rude to do something like that. Similarly, there is no written rule that I know of that requires you not to say "You're fat" to a newly met person, but polite people just KNOW that it is impolite.

    • @cortster12
      @cortster12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      corhydron111 I'm talking about the leaving you hanging part, not the rare 'what's your problem' bit.

    • @corhydron111
      @corhydron111 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, honey, if you think that is rare, that is a clear sign you're not a woman in my part of the world (and possibly in any part of the world). Besides, is there a single culture where leaving someone's hand hanging without a word of explanation is not considered even a bit rude or weird?

    • @cortster12
      @cortster12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      corhydron111 "Oh, honey, if you think that is rare"
      That is extremely condescending and insulting, not to mention rude. Calling people honey is pretty much implying you think I am lesser than you, and akin to a child. It's so annoying to me, and impolite.

    It’s so wild to think that people only consider New York or la as America like why did we let media get this far with doing that

    • @jhonshephard921
      @jhonshephard921 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well we grew up on shows like Friends. That is the biggest American show I watched as a kid in 90s Pakistan. That was NYC. I watched Buzzfeed at times, again LA, SF or NYC for the most part. At most there is Robocop and 8Mile in Detroit. So that is America to most foreigners.

      He studied at karachi grammar school which is one of the most liberal schools of Pakistan. It is co education, so i’m sure he had female friends. This handshake thing sounds exaggerated.

    It used to be this way in America I think. Not long ago it wasn't seen as polite for a man to extend his hand first for a handshake with a woman, but if the woman extended her hand first, then it was ok.
