cktcsbib: That is Chelsea Handler's calling card: observational comedy, insult comedy, but then you should know for you have seen ALL of her interviews. To put it bluntly, she's not there to lick asses. Her guests know the score and usually give as good as they get. Kumail has been on other shows where the interviewer is really nice to the point where it's sometimes too nice "ass licking". Perhaps you and others who don't appreciate Chelsea Handler's comedy slant, should just not watch her shows. Lots of the persons commenting on here have names which could suggest they may be Muslim???? Don't know but could there be truth when they say that Muslims don't have a sense of humour and can't get their heads around satire? Just a question.

I’ve been a critic of Chelsea for years. If it was up to me, she would have been kicked off TV a long time ago. Her whole comedy routine is to be rude and shocking, except that routine only works when it’s funny, which she is not. So she just comes off as a rude idiot

Handler is jarring in her prejudice, here. She caught him off guard, too, though he tried to be pleasant. She treated him like he was an alien from outer space, or an entirely different species.
There are so many interviews where women are asked ignorant and patronizing questions by male interviewers, which is benevolent sexism. Handler asks questions here that are saturated with benevolent racism. This is an icky interview, especially the opening questions and that closing comment about how she'd "try" a Pakistani--as if men from Pakistan are alien creatures. It has a similar sliminess to sexual harassment. (Racial harassment?)
I thought from the first moment that she was doing that intentionally to be humorous. Like, she was playing the part of an ignorant American asshole. I truly thought that immediately... But I will admit that by the end it got a little awkward with her random "I want to date a Pakistani" and "make me Muslim" etc.

I think it's the typical questions friends ask to new people from other countries. Such as when you hang out for first time with them in classes, etc. Mostly it's due to curiosity and stereotypes that they have known about the new friend's country. I believe most of the time they're genuinely curious and meant no harm, even though the way the questions asked may have been 'uncomfortable' or 'rude' to natives.
