Nice tips David. About the bicycle pump ... the last time I used it, my wife asked me if I was making beer or going to ride my bike. Now she can believe me ... watching this video :) Relative to inserting the grain plates for mashing, also if they get wet before they get better ... but it is still sometimes a bit exasperating. I think the silicone rings should fit harder on the plates, but it's just an opinion.
Hi David! I have a question. When you sanitize the wort chiller by running hot wort through it, Why do you stop the timer during 10 minutes? That will get 10 more minuts of bitternes extraction. If you use the GF filter and the false bottom you may not need the previous whirpool and can run the boiling wort through the chiller without stoping the boil. You think this could be done? Thanks
The thing to bear in mind here is that IBU within homebrew is not a precise science. Studies have shown that if you are within even 30% then you are doing better than most. Nobody needs to wp. It is just useful to setting clarity off on a good start.
Just completed a brew on Friday and the only issue I had was with the dam silicon seals on the perforated plates. Kept coming off the top plate as I was trying to get it in place, tried wetting both surfaces but still found it a frustrating pain surely Grainfather can come up with a solution? Once again David i find your videos invaluable and very helpful thanks for imparting your experience 👍
Try putting in at an angle first then flattening it when you get near the grain bed. I also find using a spray bottle with water and star san and spraying the silicon first also helps.
Hi David Loving the videos and as yet have never brewed a thing. But getting a grainfather soon. I have a question that's confusing me. I look at recipes which say batch size and boil volume. Can you describe why these are different. Is it because the boil volume includes sparge water??
Hi Mark, great :) Yes batch size is the end amount. Grain and hops absorb liquid and the boil evaporates it, sparge water tops it up so that by the end you have the desired volume. Hope this helps :)
@@DavidHeathHomebrew that helps a lot. I was a bit confused as to recipes i looked at and trying to work out how much mash water and how much sparge water. It seems very confusing. I actually think ive watched to much videos now. The more i watch the more confused i get.
The easy way is to use a calculator like Brewfather. You can find my recipes stored there and also others. This will work everything out for you. Far easier and what most people do.
+Erwin Lohuis Hi, The area I brew in has vents to the outside that helps. Some go as far as getting extraction. Opening the shed door/ windows from time to time will help.

Haha :) Glad you liked it!
+Fernando López Angulo I never have trouble with the plates but then Ive used them alot.
Very good video presentation!
Very sorry for the late reply, YT has been very buggy recently so I only just saw this. Thank you, much appreciated :)
With 110V, if they want a more vigorous boil put the lid on the grainfather. Just be careful at the start of the boil to watch for boil overs.

@@DavidHeathHomebrew Oks, so not effect on the IBU, but as faster way? Sanitize the chiller while boiling. Could be possible?

Hello David,
How do you remove the steam during he boiling proces ? My whole shed gets wet because of the steam.

Buy cheap fan to blow the steam or pull the steam out
