  • 2016 Ducati XDiavel S Motorcycle Review - This bike truly shocked me in several ways. First of all because of what is is, second because of what it is NOT. Looking at it you expect something like a VRod. It could not be farther from it. If you have ridden the regular Diavel, you might expect that with a little more power. It is a completely different feeling bike in all regards. You might look at the forward controls and large rake thinking it handles and feels like a cruiser. Hardly. Naked streetfighter is more like it! It's a fantastic machine that left a stupid grin on my face! Think of it this way. It has more power and speed than a VMAX. Comfort of a cruiser position. Control and feeling of a nimble FZ09. Yep, no kidding.

    The first thing I noticed on the bike when the video started was the control position. I'm so glad to hear that it was very comfortable cause they looked so far forward. I'm going to take a ride on one next week thanks to this great review!

    I'm surprised to hear you say it's so stiff, I've heard its pretty comfortable. I might be the target audience for it. . I'm still young, I'm looking for something sporty and Italian but my main things aren't track or canyon carving. I live in the south. I want to be able to do and love everything on my bike and don't want to get a BMW F800GT although it wouldn't be the worst thing. I'm definitely not into Harley or Indian but I appreciate the softail and scout. I'd like something I can sport cruise on, sport tour on, get excited when I want to, ride most everyday, and really bond with and get some therapy from. I love Ducati and don't want to look weird in ATTGAT. I'm not the most experienced rider either but I am smart. This and the Monster really appeal to me. Obviously the Panigale is a heart throb but I'm not on that level and I'm not a big track guy. Hyperstrada and Multistrada look awkward and lame to me, I don't like being jacked up like that either. I want something very stable, there are a lot of highways here.

    Awesome, best review I've seen on this bike. I had a sit on one at the bike show last week. I'm only 5'10, so it kinda put me in a more lean forward aggressive position, whereas I prefer the total sit up and beg. I still love the bike though. Great review man✊

      This was clearly not made with standard ergos, or even relaxed cruiser ergos, in mind. They made this for the forward sweeping Vrod kind of style. This bike is clearly targeted at that segment.

    I have had mine 3 years now. The longest I have owned any bike and that's for a reason! They're superb!! But do have some issues. Rear brake can drop but can be done via service bulletin now thankfully. Front resovoirs can corode very quickly through brake fluid leaks,fumes. But wipe them after each ride and all fine 🙂 rear shock needs setting up for best ride. Gearbox can be clunky but overall still one of a kind beast machine and still don't want to change it.

    WOW keyless motorcycle. Its looks much like a sport bike, with e cruiser sitting position. and the power of a sport bike. For people who want a sport bike but to short for most short bikes would do well on this bike. The headlight looks just like the one on my FZ 07.

    My wife sells Ducati's at the local shop, so I got to ride one myself. Going from your standard cruiser (vt1300cx) to this, immediate thoughts are... "What have I been missing, and I need life insurance."
    Sport mode around town, you will find yourself bringing the front wheel up on every take-off. I didnt like the mode selector "headache" myself. I just kept it in Sport.

      +TwoWheelObsession I (and I'm sure most of your subscribers) really love these reviews, not only because of the fluid presentation but also because you present a wide range of bikes without bias. My guess would be that the Daivel is predominantly aimed at older Sportsbike riders who don't want to give up the power or handling, but no longer want the riding position, and don't want a 'chrome and tassels' traditional cruiser. I'd suggest the key demographic is 50 years old, has owned Ducatis in the past, and is a professional person. Over here in Europe Ducati (and triumph) are working hard to position themselves as a 'lifestyle' brand. It's no secret that Harley make a huge amount of money from t shirts, jackets, mugs and wallets, something triumph and Ducati are keen to emulate.

    Very good review. Inclusive for sure. My woman friend has been riding a BMW 650 Sport Scooter for over a year now. Wants to step up. I'm thinking an Agusta Dragster 800 RR would work for it only weighs about 380 pounds. But this bike lights me up. I'm sure she could handle it for the Scooter weighs about 550 pounds. I ride a BMW (K 1600GT) and the bikes best aspect is its balance. Very easy to steer in tight places. Is this Ducati series well balanced? Thank you.

      I managed a few decent uturns on a test ride just fine. I wouldn't worry about having this bike. It did spook some of the other riders though. If you're used to sportbikes or standards, having your arms and legs way out in front is something you mentally have to figure out before you start the turn, or you'll get halfway in before realizing your body needs to be doing something you're not used to to complete it.

    A big question I have is how far did you WANT to ride? Is this an all day bike or a short trip bike for you? I mean I know you said it was a little stiff, but how far did you *feel* like riding?

    • @TwoWheelObsession
      @TwoWheelObsession  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If i don't even notice a pressure point or any minor bother during a ride, for me it means the seat is all-day good. That being said you never know until you try.

    • @aluisious
      @aluisious 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rode one of these for a bit more than an hour. I could have easily done several more hours, especially if it was my bike and I could set up the ergos properly.
      That said I was really happy to get back on my Multistrada with the Skyhook suspension. The bike I rode had stiff shock settings.

    • @SergeZz

      Henk Scheerooren,
      hmm, I didn't feel like this. In my case there was no way to switch modes on the go. It was initially set to "TOURING" mode, so I've never managed to change it on the go. Still even in this mode there was enough fun to ride it. When we got back to the parking, the Ducati representative has shown me how to switch: you have to go through the menu, then hold the button for couple of seconds - LOL )). Was that interface designed by smartphone geeks?.. They could make a dedicated single button to switch the modes. i.e. like it is done on newer Yamahas.

    Great review, as usual! I have a couple of questions for you. I'm in the market for a "cruiser", or should I say "power cruiser" and have narrowed it down to 3, the XDiavel S, the VMax and Vrod Muscle. I'm not speed freak or racer, but do love short bursts of power, I doubt I'll ever make extremely long trips, (will trailer if needed). Looking for a reasonably comfortable, refined, easy to maneuver bike, as you have reviewed all three mentioned and had the money on hand, which would you purchase and why? Pros and Cons of each?

    Hi everybody can you please give me some suggestions on how to verify with videotape and a go pro hero 4 silver my 1299S when it intermittently and randomly and unexpectedly stalls out? Every time i take it to the dealer they said they can't duplicate the problem and Ducati of North America video taped my bike with no problems. But my 1299s still stalls out on me in congested stop in go traffic all the time and when I feather the clutch and drive between 0 to 15 mph on the street or freeway or on the street.However I'm an amateur and I just purchased a hero 4 go pro silver camera do you have suggestions on how to mount it to the 1299S gas tank ? I'm concerned with losing the camera what type a suction mount the go pro hero 4 camera? What I should use and what can I use in case the suction loses its grip to keep the camera from damaging the motorcycle and the camera in case it falls thanks advance for everything. The dealer said prove the 1299s is stalling out with video verification because they claim everything is checking out A ok on the computer test sheet with Ducati engineers and Ducati video tape that they won't show me What would you do? Thanks in advance for everything.

    Nice bike, but while Ducati tries real hard with this, it falls short of actually being a cruiser. It's more of a reworked sport bike setup. Bikes, such as the M109, Vmax, V Rod or the Rocket3 are much better examples of a cruiser.

  • @SergeZz
    @SergeZz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I test rode it at Laconia demo rides last summer. Impressive, I would say it is touching the glory of Vmax. However, there is couple of cons: 1) there is no way to switch modes on the go. It was initially set to "TOURING" mode, so I've never managed to change it on the go. Still even in this mode there was enough fun to ride it. When we got back to the parking, the representative has shown me how to switch: you have to go through the menu, then hold the button for couple of seconds - LOL )). It doesn't make sense, totally non-logical. You have to stop to switch modes. 2) I'm used to the prompt progressive response of my front brake lever, just like all the Japan bikes do it. When we were driving out of parking I've almost hit the rear wheel of a bike in front of me - all because of stupid free play on the XDiavel's front brake lever. I've managed to stop my front whell just in 3' behind that guy's rear wheel, but ohh, I remember that scary feeling very well. I've even said in voice: "Fkin macaroni eaters!.. " - good thing I said it through full face helmet, so nobody heard it )) I will probably never understand why Ducati needs to be special such a stupid way.
    Otherwise it is great machine with that special powerful V-twin feeling. It loves rear tires and those are expensive for this bike. One of those demo bikes rear tires was already worn down the cord layer, the others were very close to it.
