  • It is easy to get carried away by futuristic 6G visions, but what matters in the end is what technology and services the telecom operators will deploy. In this episode, Erik G. Larsson and Emil Björnson discuss a new white paper from SK Telecom that describes the lessons learned from 5G and how these experiences can be utilized to make 6G more successful. The paper and conversation cover network evolution, commercial use cases, virtualization, artificial intelligence, and frequency spectrum. The latest developments in defining official 6G requirements are also discussed. The white paper can be found here: www.sktelecom.... The following news article about mmWave licenses is mentioned: telecoms.com/5...
The IMT-2030 Framework for 6G can be found here: www.itu.int/en...

Thank you, Emil and Erik, for putting a great effort into these podcasts and providing insights into non-trivial issues.

I am really enjoying this episode, passed first 20 minutes, and writing to You already. Perhaps it's time for Telco to shift from "G" paradigm and packet based monetisation. For Open RAN topic - Iam exploring this for last 10 Years and what I see as biggest obstacle is vulnerability and security. When You introduce software based open source control plane to control L1 which was traditionally propietary You are more open to vulnerabilities via json/Rest APIs. That's why hackers in hackatons are saying that virtualised 5G is easiest Telco network to be hacked. This plays in favour of traditional vendors.

Very good podcast. Thanks for sharing that additional information about what would be 6G. I will check the whitepaper you mentioned.
    Thanks again.

Nice podcast , is it good idea to use wifi 7 or 6e in outdoor (city wifi) environment so clients connect any where and every where ?

Yes, this is an alternative to deploying small cells (mmWave or lower bands) along the streets. It has already been done in some cities. The biggest issue is mobility management since WiFi isn’t designed for that and coordination with other surrounding WiFi networks that are sharing the spectrum on equal terms.
