The problem is never the tool, It is the way you use it. VR is such a powerful tool. People will be addicted because they will compensate from a lack of life purpose and their malaise…like phones today. As Bob Marley said : You can’t run away from yourself. Good luck everyone.
@@renegadeoffunk123 RP1 is fun fiction, but has pretty accurate view the kind of tech VR/AR will evolve to, but its still fiction in regards to the dystopic milieu its set in.
Im the same. I am ‘iffy’ about tech integration in our daily lives more than it already is. I have a very “old school” view on this topic, and im very young. 19years old. I enjoy my phone (alot, like most of us) and im happy that i have it. I think the more technologically advanced we get as a society, the more issues we have. Sure we can get (maybe in 10years) our bones fixed faster from little electrical cells, and surgery might be easier, if humans still need to do it at all. But mentally I believe we have more issues the more we rely on tech. I know i rather be healthy mentally than physically. So thats why i believe its no good to have so much tech.
Nothing would change when metaverse is here. Even with current technology (pc, gaming consoles, tv..) there are people who spend most their time at home and others prefer to physically meet and socialise. Some people already prefer to socialise digitally through forums, social media platforms, or sometimes in games. Metavers will only enhance that experience.
Before they build the metaverse, could someone fix the outdoor speaker at my local drive through? I can't understand the employee taking orders that is inside only 30 feet away and I have to ask them to repeat themselves.
They will sadly. For some it will be easier to live in a VR reality than in real life. You can look the way you want, be or act the way you want, introverted people could open up more because of the lack of the physicality of the real world and real people. It could be a good thing in the short run as a sort of session where people can face their fears and conquer them in VR before giving it a shot in real life....but as with everything, there has to be a balance between real life and VR and living in the Metaverse or similar. Just like today, just like the generation before us, we had our obsessions. I was hooked on video games in the late 80`s and 90`s. My kids are hooked on their tablet or youtube influencers, the next generation will be hooked on the whatever is next....maybe VR and Metaverse, maybe something else, that`s the nature of humans and the nature of technological advancements. It`s the individuals decision in the end. I think it will be interesting to see this in the future but it HAS to be immersive, not Roblox like graphics and not like Decentraland now. For that we need more processing power and faster streaming, bandwidth and better VR headsets that are more cheaper and accessible to people. Even I dont have one and I`m a CG artist who HAS worked on Unreal VR immersive projects and archviz walkthroughs. I`d need one. :D But I get motion sick easily nowadays. LOL
@@petermayer8375 you have a point, but none of this down to individual choice. Everyone has a smartphone now because we were all convinced we needed one by massive tech giants. I wonder if VR could help feed the hungry, protect whats left of the rainforest, and teach our children the joy of serving others out of kindness and compassion... OR might it eventually leave us feeling even more isolated, unsatisfied, and morally bankrupt than cell phones and computers have already.
VR has actually been a great help for people with social anxiety to get out of their comfort zone and learn to be comfortable interacting with others. Ultimately leading to them getting more out and into the world.
@@JeppeBeier I have social anxiety and nothing makes me more happy than being around plants and animals and nature. I don't get it, and I don't want to honestly
"feed the hungry, protect whats left of the rainforest" Nope "teach our children the joy of serving others out of kindness and compassion" It could do that. "leave us feeling even more isolated, unsatisfied, and morally bankrupt than cell phones and computers have already." VR adds social interaction and currently strips away the fake wall social media builds around us. You can talk directly to the real person. Out of VR people seem like scripted characters in games, prisoners inside of the false selves they built. Meta will try to build that back, on the avatars.
@@JeppeBeier Do you suspect that part the reason people with anxiety feel more comfortable interacting in a virtual environment is that it provides a sense of anonymity, or in other words, a wall of separation between their true identity and what the other people know them as? And why do you think it's so appealing for them to be able to present a fictional version of themselves rather than their authentic self? More importantly, please help me understand why you think this technology would make anyone more likely to take down their false fiction avatar self so they can then reveal more of their true authentic selves in social settings outside of virtual reality. Wouldn't they just end up developing an addiction to their avatar self in the same way people have become addicted to their tv's, computers, smart phones, and video games?

It all depends on who owns it! The metaverse is already alive and kicking with 1000's of virtual worlds that are populated, know anyone that plays an online game? It will be bad because it will give people to many ways to distract themselves by pursuing pleasurable experiences in the virtual world. Pursuit of pleasure makes you happy short term but sad long term. But it will be good, it will solve transport and reduce consumerism. Consumerism of virtual goods will decrease consumerism in real world and therefore will be good for enviroment. Instead of destroying earth to create unnecesary clothes, watches and houses, people will create this things virtually.
All of you people making negative comments and talking about the downfall of humanity are not fully thinking about this. Virtual reality is nothing more than a new form of communication. It's an easy way to get together with people from all over the world and talk to each other. No one is "living in VR" or losing their soul. In a VR environment such as Somnium Space, you can create virtual art galleries, nightclubs, or theaters. You can set up a business and sell things. You can have business meetings. Do a podcast. Build beautiful 3D art. Play. Teach yoga, or educate in other ways. Do some stand-up comedy. Give lectures. Give a free music concert. Whatever. There are many many uses for it! It's not Ready Player One and it's not The Matrix. Stop watching fantasy movies. People don't use it to escape reality. They use it as a tool for communication just as you would use a phone or the Internet (which you are all using right now). It's just a tool. It's not going to replace reality.
No one is talking about mental health in this topics. "We are already staring at our phones 100 times per day" - this is not OK. We need to understand how to deal with this new technology the healthy way, and then move in it's direction. Last 14 years showed how fast people become addicted to phones and social approvment, when they feel bad in real life. Imagine how quickly they'll give their life to virtual reality when it become cheap. Ofcourse that's exactly what creators of VR products (such as the speaker) want us to do.
The Poor won't own anything in metaverse apart from what they can afford and that's not going to be much. Creating a personal 3D environment for them will cost them .. well a kidney. The reach on the other hand can afford to build mansions there.
The younger generations are more susceptible to liking these cyber ideas that don’t involve true human connection physically. And on top of it there are going to be long term and possible short term health effects of our brain and body that our society will eventually have to deal with before people in the future realize what the heck we were thinking in this present time. I’ve put on a PS4 virtual headset before for only like 20 min and I had one of the worse headaches of my life. Now that’s just 20 min imagine the effectuations after days played with this on. Jeeeeze.
You're talking about a 2016 headset. Not only are today's headsets more comfortable, but the headache issue is completely fixable with newer optics in headsets.
@@imjustvibing729 I'm not even a boomer, but they're right. It's evolving in an extremely unhealthy way, where we crave a virtual world moreso than our actual life in reality. Not to mention the lack of any ethics or morals involved in this.
This technology is truly amazing. I am a little bit worried about the future of humanity if this becomes mainstream, because some people will become fully absorbed onto it. At the same time though, we still have the choice to take our headset off and go spend some time in a park, or at a real concert, and at the end of the day it will be up to us as individuals to not allow this to replace the things we have, but rather just make some of them better - because personally I would love to attend many different events that I just don't have access to in South Africa.
An escape for some from the reality that they should actually face and change for the better. Technological advancement as a tool I can see the sense for the Metaverse, but is tricky from a social perspective from my perspective. And lets not start with that fact that the Metaverse will only work with nations that have stable networks or internet. Good luck to those nations still struggling to even get a stable 1Mbps speeds.
What is real? What you feel, what you can touch, smell? Nobody can prove that where we live is real. What happens when metaverse becomes indistinguishable from reality.
I think the next leap in this field is making the goggles dissapear and that they can connect the virtual world layer directly to our neo cortex. Then we can also touch, smell and taste the virtual layer.
What problem is being solved here exactly??? What’s the use of owning things virtually if they can’t assist you in reality, the real advertising for this should be “we kept you on your phones long enough, now you have the chance to become the phone, really get lost in it literally”
Part of this is AR, which will allow you to get real-time information overlayed on top of reality. It can be a massive boost to productivity and every day QoL.
It's just a new interface for human interactions and transactions. People already use computers and cell phones to communicate or sell and buy things. Someone from a poor area could, teach a language, be a tour guide of a virtual city for someone who's about to travel there in real life, do a music concert, use free 3D software (such as Blender) to create objects that someone could then preview in VR and then decide to buy and use a 3D printer to obtain. Of course it will be used to waste time as well but, in the end that's our choice of being a consumer or a producer.
They don’t need to assist you in reality cuz everything will become virtual. Many activities are virtual already and our technology is ofc gonna make that become more. That is meant to happen
@@blainemarlow2261 this I can agree with if it’s in terms of increasing levels of communicating information nothing wrong with that, an extra tool to communicate things like selling a product or for consumers to buy a product but let’s be honest it’s not solving a problem but we can’t overlook it enhancing communication but there’s no better experience than reality

Whilst concerns about the MetaVerse are valid it’s extremely important to make the distinction between centralised and decentralised. This is directly in opposition to what Zuckerberg is trying to create with Meta. Artur Sychov is an opponent of what Mark is proposing, not an ally. They have completely different goals. One is about totalitarian control and the other is about creating an interesting digital world where we can have fascinating experiences to SUPPLEMENT our life, not REPLACE it, it is not natural life or metaverse, they coexist.

Decentralization of ownership is a key of the metaverse, anything is created in the metaverse should be long to everyone in the metaverse. The real world has scarcity for the moment which is why ownership is a useful tool, but in the world where there is no scarcity, artificial scarcity harms the value of the community. Of course there's scarcity in service so you can still monetize your actions just not your products.

There are a lot of hateful comments but I actually think VR is an amazing technology and can give us many good things. Of course I don't support the idea of immersing yourself fully in a virtual world and leaving behind your real life, but it would be great to be able to meet "in person" people from around the world and actually feel their touch! That's the problem of today's world - people lack social interactions. People are often hostile toward each other. But in a virtual world, I imagine there would be people that just want to talk to each other and hang out. Social interactions are really important and if we could make them easier and still realistic at the same time, it would be great. It could also open new possibilities for different mental health therapies. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. I don't want to be rich... but I want to be stable. And... just throwing this out there...I thought that this new VR world would finally get rid of the financial separation of society...I thought it would finally make everyone even. A new slate. A fresh start with no greedy corporations and government leaders making billions of dollars off the backs of the working class... it's getting old and I'm exhausted from this neverending cycle of working and struggling, working and struggling, working and struggling... with no freedom from this prison that I call life, anywhere in my future. anyway... getting off topic a bit...I just need some suggestions and opinions please. If I should invest...tell me, please...I'm tired of missing opportunities all of the time. I don't even know if I could even afford to invest in VR real estate...I certainly can't afford to invest out here, in the "real world" but...if a majority honestly believes that VR real estate investments are going to happen in the near future and that I could potentially live in an actual house instead of a deteriorating mobile home...let me know what steps I should be taking to make that happen please. Keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about this stuff... I appreciate your advice, tips and opinions.

In 20 years, the metaverse will find you there.

“VR mimics our reality but makes it more immersive.”
I truly hope future generations don’t find VR more immersive than reality itself.
It’s been suggested that this isn’t likely to be base reality which begs the question: what have we been running from?
Due to bullying and obnoxious behavior it will be, cause people are tired of dealing with the trends of reality
Look at 4k TVs made such an impact. But vr is going to be at a whole new level
LOL

I wonder if VR could help feed the hungry, protect whats left of the rainforest, and teach our children the joy of serving others out of kindness and compassion... OR might it eventually leave us feeling even more isolated, unsatisfied, and morally bankrupt than cell phones and computers have already.

"leave us feeling even more isolated, unsatisfied, and morally bankrupt than cell phones and computers have already."
VR adds social interaction and currently strips away the fake wall social media builds around us.

This technology is truly amazing. I am a little bit worried about the future of humanity if this becomes mainstream, because some people will become fully absorbed onto it. At the same time though, we still have the choice to take our headset off and go spend some time in a park, or at a real concert, and at the end of the day it will be up to us as individuals to not allow this to replace the things we have, but rather just make some of them better - because personally I would love to attend many different events that I just don't have access to in South Africa.

I think the next leap in this field is making the goggles dissapear and that they can connect the virtual world layer directly to our neo cortex. Then we can also touch, smell and taste the virtual layer.
This is the excitement we are afraid of
We basically will look like land based scuba divers.

Social interactions are really important and if we could make them easier and still realistic at the same time, it would be great. ...oh yeah, LET'S DO THAT AGAIN GUYS, and this time let's forget we have an even more amazing technology called our BODY, which we'll simply stop listening and taking proper care of. 🥳
Why can’t we just live in the real world?💁
Why not both🤦🏻♂️? Religious people live in fantasy worlds 🤣
cuz like that have two different life

Isn't EVERYTHING within our reality? People talk about "escaping reality" but technically, virtual reality is a part of reality...The internet, VR, drugs etc... are PART of our reality, right?
Its all relative Jacques Derrida would say, just belive what makes you happy and reject the rest.
That’s deep.
I mean...people prob don’t have to take drugs anymore in metaverse😂
I think this system is made to bypass laws and human restrictions. Meaning we have a fictional world based on real ways of life such as money etc.
Can you buy drugs in the metaverse?
I just don't feel Artur was being "real" with us. Great talk and the Metaverse is here!
I see what you did there 🤛🏻🙂 and yes the metaverse is here and most people are already using it and loving it !

Thanks for your response. I'm retired so I am currently only using it for entertainment and education. When we take advantage of the technology that is available us now it can be a fantastic tool ! I'm just surprised that so many see VR and AR as something to be afraid of.
PS...I checked out your channel and watched a few of your videos...good stuff ! New subscriber. Keep vibe/ing ✌🏻
@@claydogr1143 Appreciate you very much Claydog! The body doesn't know the difference between real and imagined. This fact alone enlightens us all as to the many benefits VR can offer us. Desensitizing our fears is a great example!

This is an effort to dehumanizing which looks inevitable.
I m worried about the younger generation
I am pretty sure our parents thought the same when we started using computers and smartphones, and don't get me started on what my parents thought about the internet and video games.

For Metaverse to Succeed it can't be in the hand of a single company a monopoly. A monopoly will always incentivize the business model to work as it is meaning the selling of info to companies to better market their products. Internet was meant to be bigger than this meaning anyone can create then later send and receive content on a large scale on their chosen platform. Currently, a Machine is able to understand the net through metadata. Internet is an enabler it should not only remain as such but be a safe space place we can be ourselves without any interference and create and share information without any bias.
Say no to the metaverse it will consume your soul.. truly..
I have a lot of concern too, but you can't fight technology, it's gonna dominate our world just like internet.
By the way we're already living inside a VR simulation, why do we need to get more disconnected by going deeper into the matrix?
Maybe simulations creating simulations is the bizarre nature of reality
What if we're going away from the matrix and not into it?
Because it’s cheaper to create impressive things in virtual than in reality

The invisible hand of the market
People we are from nature, dont lose the connection to our mother.
Well, you see, actually we should do some stuff in reality, our basic needs can't be fully provided via VR, I mean we will still have at least to eat, sleep & poop in the real life, I hope so!?
Why we need to feel raindrops virtually when we can feel it in reality???
The new Sims game looks crazy lol
We're now the Sims characters
Maybe this will be as sucessful as 3D TV
This is actually kind of depressing. He kept saying "connected" and "socialize" but it will actually reduce both. The only sense you will use to communicate is hearing. No more touch, smell, or seeing the person (or taste lol) when you communicate.
Touch/Sight/Hearing done, 2 more to go then whats the difference of it actually happening if your brain and memory think it actually happened
@@AustinNorman but there really is no touch or seeing because you're interacting with an avatar. You see a cartoon character and are touching a controller and not the person.
do u realize ppl are already playing video games 24/7 and only communicate through hearing. The metaverse will make it so you can see their face expressions for example
@@kyopa9361 very true, there are some people that are already like that, but it's not the majority at all. I think the metaverse idea sounds great for video games and entertainment, but not day to day interaction nor work. I think we already spend too much time detached from people and all the lockdowns the past couple years has made it worse. I hate using Teams all the time haha
You are right and wrong at the same time. The current technology can manipulate just two senses realistically, i.e. sight and sound. But in the future, probably 30 - 40 years, when input to the brain becomes possible, we will be able two manipulate all the senses. I am talking about brain chips(or something like that). Once we figure out input to the brain safely, the chips can mimic real life.
In the 20th Century, some had the vision of Consumerism, as to make fortunes.
Now, possible realised, only a Virtual Universe can handle infinite growth.
So, for the ones unable to handle desires and greed that might be the solution … a digital virtual universe of infinite possibilities … but, without divine energy that created us and everything around us in the objective reality
All I wanted was a news feed in chronological order unfiltered. Instead I got a screen bolted to my head, still displaying filtered content.
And a suit to feel it all...
As the way we worked has changed many people have adopted some for of remote working - the worst part of remote working is how easily you can be interrupted or called into some meeting - I feel like VR is going to be the similar - people "teleporting" into your life whenever it suits them. Thats painful - as a productivity tool - ie virtual work setup, think multiple screens - that sounds cool
God! I see we haven't learned anything from the matrix movies. Everyday humanity is closer to burying in its own grave.
Metauniverse is the only way to the future, a breakthrough, a yearning, a break from self-restraint, so that the future can be better.
I'm getting up to "that age" where I'm starting to lose touch with technology but I'm still young enough to be highly interested in it. I really want to join in on this idea and I look forward to seeing what the future of AR looks like. But... right now, I am completely lost. How does one get started with the VR experience? Any tips or advice? I read a few articles about the future of real estate in the Metaverse and as a middle aged woman who has missed out on many opportunities to invest in the past...I don't want to miss out on the possibility of a wonderful opportunity, IF there even IS an opportunity for real estate ownership in the VR world in the future. What do you guys think? And...IF owning VR real estate is going to happen... how would I invest in it? I don't want to get rich (although, I'm not opposed lol)... but if good money can be made, I'd absolutely be happy with just enough so that I never have to worry about which utility bill will have to wait until next payday. I just don't want to struggle anymore... honestly?...I want enough money so that my children don't have to struggle and scrape to pay my final living expenses when it's my time to cross over and I want them and my two grandchildren (so far) to always have a home to live in...i have experienced homelessness and I will do whatever I need to do so that my kids and grandkids don't have to experience it after I'm gone. Maybe, in a few years we can all meet up on the digital pool patio/terrace at a fancy, digital highrise condo with a beautiful, digital infinity pool and Jacuzzi, and sip a digital margarita! Cheers to the future 🥂
Hello Frankie. I am not the person to advise you on what type of virtual real estate or currency to invest in, but what I would suggest would be to continual invest in your offsprings. When I say 'invest' I mean the type of things that would help them in achieving their desired goals, such as coding, maths tuition or science camps.
