- This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this talk, George introduces the concept of the “metaverse” and how it will change filmmaking in sets, crew, actors, and most importantly, the story.
George is an executive producer at CBS Digital the visual effects team responsible for movies and television series. He and his colleagues develop disruptive tools for production and custom content for the Oculus Rift.

Oh my god, I can't believe this is seven years old speech ,it looks like the one which is been given after Facebook -- > Meta rename. This person is a pioneer for this Metaverse I must say. Zuckerberg bought Oculus in 2014 ,that just tells how futuristic he is. It just matter of years /months that we all will be experiencing the Metaverse around us.thanks Tedx ,keep up this good work

I can't believe that even now i have trouble convincing people that this is a BIG deal. Yet i still hear people banging on about curved monitors and 4K like they are revolutionary and not evolutionary as they are. :(
Watching this in 2021 and it all makes sense now. Mark Nsuka-berg had it all figured out since tey tey. He only needed us to be ready for it. True true, "ideas don't come fully formed."
Back in 2005, I was part of the closed beta for Playstation Home that debuted on the Playstation 3. If anyone knows about this and joined the open beta in 2008, you all know this idea and concept of what the mainstream calls "the Metaverse" is more than a decade old product. Not bragging about "I was here first"....I'm just saying, there's nothing to be scared of. There will be so many benefits coming from this technology going mainstream and it'll be great. This will coincide with the Blockchain infrastructure, higher speed internet pipeline, NFT's, Digital Assets, VR, AR, Ai, Communication, etc.
Hi I have a question for you- I am thinking the ultimate solution for this meta verse. I believe I won’t need a glass to watch this meta verse in the future say 3 years. Then if there is no glass, what kind of receiver could receive the signal sending from the sender? Thanks
you can say what you want but it wil definitely become quite scary, imagine AI characters so sophisticated they can converse at human level with the corresponding emotions and facial expressions. games so high quality it will become insepereable from reality. this will be possible within 20 years at the most
7 years after this video Facebook announced the metaverse. Will we all be exploring it, working in it, in the next 7 years?
That's to tell you how new techs meant for the next 20 years is being developed and the media is constantly warped and injected with controlled information.

Virtual reality will indeed be the future of tomorrow. Imagine working and earning cash in a virtual reality world.. people who are physically handicapped could participate in contributing to the economy by translating their work on virtual reality to real time.
Also, virtual reality will solve land constraint problems.. you will no longer need vast amount of land since space in virtual reality is infinite.
All you need in real life is actually food, exercise and healthcare for survival purposes. The rest could be done on virtual reality. Even virtual reality can be a platform for exercise through motion and movement.
The less use of resources and wastage in real life would mean higher distribution of wealth even to people suffering from poverty. This will eventually solve the poor-rich gap in all countries.
I'm so looking forward for the emergence of virtual reality in full scale.

I have an oculus headset. I only have the 2 sample “games” it came with. One is being on a roller coaster with dinosaurs chasing you. The other is similar too. They are SO FRIGGIN COOL.
Unfortunately I don’t understand technology very well and haven’t figured out how to get more content, but these VR goggles are so fun to have friends put on.
All my friends are so excited and blown away watching.
I always suggest sitting in a computer chair, or rocking chair you can move around to give a 4D effect.
I’d LOVE to be able to have these VR goggles do more, and possibly apply to home videos 👍

I do like the idea of metaVersal experience, but I fear the reality wouldl be affected with it. People will loose a lot of real-time interactions. Which people are already.

It will be revolutionary; I can’t wait!!
Also, Bloom is saying that V.R is going to interrupt the film industry by cutting travel and production costs but not mentioning that it also changes what it means to have actors and what it means to act. I'm definitely in support of V.R, I want to walk on the surface of the sun and all, but that's what it'll be used for, not B.S computer animated attempts at miming human beings interacting with each other.

@@guitarche I don't think that they do. Simply because most of us millennials who have adopted tech advancements early did so naturally and not because we understood the gravity of it all. I think that requires above average foresight and awareness.

as per his words. we does not finish movies(our imagination), we just release(whatever came as such). that is really creativity. accepting what it comes. Not the effective of software tools which was designed by someone else.
