Having watched a fair amount of the EDG behind the scenes stuff, I think the coaching staff has done a brilliant job with this team. You can tell the team culture they've built is really special, and it has been instrumental in helping them overcome struggles in multiple bo5s.

In my perspective, RNG and EDC facing each other in the quarter finals is actually a good thing for whoever survives that round. Because we can see Most of the LPL teams lost their LPL style in the group stage, as they are not familiar with sup enchanters and the mata favoring macro more. By facing another LPL team, both EDG and RNG played a full BO5, showing what LPL’s strong aspect of skirmishes and team fights is about, and also remind themselves how they used to play.
I feel like Dom especially talking about how easy it was to escape groups I believe he didn’t factor anything at all the momentum they were going into the day, the fact their scrims got hard stomped, that they lost to a 0-3 cloud 9 so you can imagine how much more it can go wrong. Like the only way to win was to get a good mental reset which sadly the coaches and manager couldn’t give
They are considered to be of a high enough quality as a player and competitor that there is no valid reason for such a swift and complete mental collapse.

From watching this it's no surprise edg was the only team to make it anywhere, they seemed to be the only lpl team that didnt have mental boom upon losing a game, makes a huge difference.
the losing streak is the reason kill those team. When you losing 2-3 games in a roll and you know you will get eliminated from the stage it gives ppl the mentel broke down

And i think if you get matched with good teams, even if you go 0-6, you will improve just by playing against them... So competitive wise, i can see why they did that. But strength wise, i can also see your point

I dont think there's something wrong about format regarding 1st/2nd place from groups, it is how it should be in playoffs tho, 1st seed vs 2nd seed, you did better in groups so you're facing the team who did worse than you on the other groups, but the thing is teams only playing 6 group stage games, you can literally have a bad day and not qualify at all like fpx, you can have a few bad games and ended up being 2nd as the best team in the groups, it should be bo3 at the very least for 6 matches, or give them more bo1 matches to really determine if this is the best team in the group. Literally a whole month tournament and players playing for 15 16 17 18 hrs a day will just gonna get 6 fcking group stage games. Dota 2 played international for only 10 days with 10x amount of games and such. Not saying to copy that but I think everyone even players would agree to get more group stage games at the very least

The coaches in LPL are so bad when is not about game knowledge... you can't this, you can't that, you thought this, you did not do that, you are thinking like losers, you are not coordinating, you, you, you... WTF, if the team got mental boomed it is because of your training, you taking the pressure off, etc just as the players are not performing...

Just always getting carried and staying cocky after that lucky performance by FPX in worlds 2 years ago. Every time I see his big head and skinny arms something just makes my blood boil.
