Well rich elon musk is not going to want to get rid of the cap then, if I am understanding it all right. Also what's all the talk about privatizing soc sec , wouldn't that be bad?
Trump floated the idea during his first term..... It will probably happen, but more like Medicare. You have "Medicare" and you have "Medicare Advantage" (the privatized version). They will link Soc Sec to a stabe crypto coin (DT now owns a crypto company btw), and offer folks a little bump to switch. And many will, sadly.
When you refer to the "rich", define who you consider "rich". There are many "rich" people, but very few megarich people. The megarich live in a different set of rules, but they follow the tax laws that our representatives voted into law. They take advantage of laws most of us are not aware of. So, the people to blame are our Congressmen and women. Contact them and let them know you want the laws changed to level the playing field. Most people don't know they can make a difference and many just don't want to bother. Which are you? As citizens, it's our responsibility to stay active with our representatives and let them know we're watching what they're doing and remind them, they are our employees, we pay their salaries. Have a blessed day.
Hey Dr. Ed, Thanks for all your helpful informative videos. I like the idea about lifting the cap. I only went above the cap a couple of times in my career, but when I did the cap was lower than it was today. I was happy to have earned enough to earn above the cap, but if they didn't stop deducting the FICA tax, I wouldn't have missed it much.
@@Mars-77 Your comment: "And there needs to be a cap on benefits." Do you realize the wrongness of forcing someone to pay for something they do not get?

I agree. Just trying to instill fear in people. That is how you can manipulate them. Anything good this man has to say about Trump? He was president for four years and the economy was good. Biden came and we got invaded by people we do not know anything about. I work in a hospital. They are in ER but don’t pay anything. Why are we waiting for Trump to be inaugurated? Why can't Joe Biden scrap the cap or ask Congress to get the job done before Christmas? Is anyone shouting this would increase our GDP by 7-10%?
???Do you think AARP is helpful as lobbyists for supporting all things Social Security? Are there other groups that would be good for us voters to support that speak for us, that our government will listen to?
How about these idiots in Congress fix it. Remove the cap on wages to apply FICA tax against. Allow a portion as a tax deduction but not all of it. Once you get past $400K in total wages and other income, change the formula so that the benefit amount is calculated with a different formula to cap benefits at a certain amount.
Hey Sir, I have a question? I heard the new people, Presedent Trump, has qualifying to position's, that they are going to go after the IRS because the IRS people are not paying taxes. They say , how do they have a right to filter through our taxes when they pay no taxes? I was wondering if this was true or not? Do you know?
I called SS and spoke to a woman that was working from home. Her young child cried and threw a fit in the background and it was very distracting. She ended up giving me the incorrect information that would have cost me $10k. I called back in and made an appointment with another person and that person was very professional and gave me the correct information finally.
If you find your x makes more than twice your benefit then you can file correct? He’s still working, age 68 and not taking soc security. If I applied for it is he notified and am I depleting his benefit for himself. Will he know I’m doing it??
It doesn't take away from his benefits at all. The SSA isn't supposed to contact him/her. If you qualify, and you've inquired on here about IEDS, why not file? Good luck 👍
It does not affect his, but your share is only half of his. You probably wouldn’t be able to live on it. I’m not sure why spouses qualify using someone else’s work history.
Trump also said he knew nothing about Project 2025. He also said Covid would go away with less than fifteen deaths. He also thought ingesting disinfect was a solution to get rid of Covid. Non-citizens may not be getting Social Security but they do get Medicaid and they do get ssi. I worked in a hospital surgery department for many years in a Detroit Michigan suburb. We have many visitors from Islamic countries who come to see their family they live with them for a few months and sign up for Medicaid so they can have surgery and once they're recovered they go back home. I was told that by a family member of one of these non-citizen temporary immigrants who was translating for me over the phone while I was screening them for their surgery. It's total bs! And to say that they don't get anything from the government is not true. I saw it on a weekly basis for years. And besides that there had to be interpreters because that was required by the state accreditation agencies. All of that costs money and it's not the Immigrant that pays for it!
When Trump said “I’m not going to touch social security or Medicare “I think he was implying he is not making cuts to benefits of recipients. My opinion.
Another change to Social Security that should be changed is to allow the the surviving spouse to continue collecting their deceased spouses full benefits to survive and pay their Rent for housing and other bills, that would be leave the surviving spouse out in the coals with less income? And thrust into poverty and possible homeless situation. Maybe one way to help retired and disabled citizens would be to adapt Rent and price controls for those living on fixed incomes.
Socialism in favor of seniors and disabled citizens living on SS and low 4011k or IRA monthly distribution that is lower then $75,000.00 yearly considering the current cost of living in the U.S. and the rate of inflation.
Maybe give prority in getting section 8 housing to seniors and disabled citizens living on fixed incomes. And at the current seniors residence due to a shortage of section 8 housing.
He will not put any burden on his rich friends. He has to keep them happy because they funded his campaign and he and smush could care less about seniors or Americans in general
Trump is implementing a program called DOGE. Department of Government Efficiency. Where he hopes to find a Trillion Dollars of waste in the Federal Government. Like this man said. It's already stated that in January 2025 cost of living regarding food is going up 2.6% the Social Security increase is 2.5% so we start off having less money for food and we're already not able to buy what we were once eating 6 months ago instead of getting three or four cans of something you can maybe get one sometimes two cans of the same thing with little or no bread and the fresh vegetables you can't always afford or the fruits not to mention how very very expensive it is to have a piece of meat like a roast or even a chicken ridiculous. Always being slighted yet when we were working from the age of 16 to retirement we didn't slack off or couldn't slack off and paying all those fake attacks and Social Security taxes Medicare taxes being towed or sold the pipe dream that when we get older it'll be there for us well I'm 72 and I'm still waiting when is it going to be there for us it's been a terrible struggle. But something has to be done somebody just has to do it and somebody has to take a good look on who it's going to affect and how to be fair about it because all of the many millions that have paid into the system and some died before even getting to enjoy a month or two of their benefits it went back into the government yeah I really think if you have more you pay more you're not going to miss it you won't miss a meal maybe instead of taking three vacations you'll only be able to take one but think about those who can't even afford to get a tank of gas when they need it much less eat two times a day. More and more cuts to SS yet my paycheck shows a big deduction for SS ! So big …… it’s bigger than all the tax’s combined ! And yet - when it’s my time to collect ….. there won’t be crap ! No more ! It needs to stop !
No it needs to be reformed by eliminating the cap and everyone pays into social security FICA for 12 months a year that will make social solvent permanently and you will receive social security benefits when you get too old to work I hope you understand this because there will come a day you are too old to work if you live long enough or something happens that you become disabled and you are unable to work
Thank you for this. Is there boiler plate language we can email our representatives regarding the FICAcap, or a petition we can sign to the same effect?
Yesterday, I discovered that SSDI took $584 out of my disability check. I can't afford to live without that. I received NO notification. I'm devastated.
The resulting effect on cuts will be greater than the tax, which only applies to 1/2 of the benefits in most cases. Cuts will be 33% instead of 21% and will begin 3 years earlier, as the result of this proposal. So, you get to keep your 5-6% of the check but the check will be 11% smaller. Those who cant do the arithmetic will be blissfully ignorant of how they got screwed, as try to find someone who will hire them.
There is tons of places they can cut cost. They do not need to cut SS and leave sick and disabled in the streets. Not only can they cut wasteful spending, they can put MORE in SS.
Illuminating the cap ? OK, who all would that effect? Who pays to put butt's in those seats? That will never be allowed by either Right or Left. Yes, it is real easy for them to say "I don't want to cut ssa". In other words "sunset the ssa program ". "I won't touch SSA" these are both the same and both will end ssa.
@ 9.5% make $150-200k and 14.5% make over $200k. I agree it’s not going make a huge dent but I think part of the problem is making changes too fast. The bigger the change the more resistance. Like the minimum wage. Jumping to $15 in two years becomes untenable for many businesses.

@@howardfriedman7077 Raising the cap does not unduly affect the wealthy, it simply.means they pay on a very small percent more of their income. We have a country where currently the top have more wealth than the bottom 92% of the population. Drawing on a vastly higher percent of the income the working poor and middle income earners than the infinitesimal percent of the wealthy to fund social security makes absolutely no sense.
@@deescalatenow So, if someone earning $2 million in wages has to pay $113,000 more in extra SS taxes without any additional benefit, you think that is fair?
@@howardfriedman7077 Noone is discussing raising the cap that far. Be reasonable. What is happening now is regressive against poor people who pay a vastly higher percentage. We have the largest wealth gap that the US has EVER had Historically. It is worse than the 1800s. and Continues to get worse.

Eliminate the FICA Cap IMMEDIATELY, is the FIRST way.... Many of those High Paid politicians don't like that idea... too bad, AMERICA does!)
Congress better do something to fix Social Security to increase its solvency without cuts. If there are cuts it could result in civil war in the future.
I agree with you Ed! They need to change the rules of this game for sure.
I truly appreciate your immense knowledge and care for the SS system and your invaluable guidance!! because I'm at a lost and confused I got to go in January to the SS office

Trump plans to make cuts to social security and Medicare, Medicaid. The republicans loath disability and will cut it first.
Will you please repost the report that you showed in the beginning that told us the ideas of how to keep S.S.viable?
Scrap the cap om social security. This isn't rocket science

The politician in Finland who started this "Housing First" considers himself a conservative. Best Wishes to All
Well rich elon musk is not going to want to get rid of the cap then, if I am understanding it all right. Also what's all the talk about privatizing soc sec , wouldn't that be bad?
Yes. Very bad
Trump floated the idea during his first term.....
It will probably happen, but more like Medicare.
You have "Medicare" and you have "Medicare Advantage" (the privatized version).
They will link Soc Sec to a stabe crypto coin (DT now owns a crypto company btw),
and offer folks a little bump to switch. And many will, sadly.
You did answer some questions I had.I feel better.Thank you for that
When you refer to the "rich", define who you consider "rich".
Lift the income cap on FICA tax
Everyone should be made to pay fica, regardless of how much they make. And there needs to be a cap on benefits.
there is a cap on benefits.
@aolvaar8792 Yes, but there's also a cap on who has to pay fica.

Hey Sir, I have a question? I heard the new people, Presedent Trump, has qualifying to position's, that they are going to go after the IRS because the IRS people are not paying taxes. They say , how do they have a right to filter through our taxes when they pay no taxes?

My opinion.
Recently my husband and I received money from an accident related settlement. Is this going to effect our ss check that we are getting right now?
What happened to the bill for $200 increase that was sent to Senate Are Congress to be voted on?

Dr. Ed, I’m 75 in good health have part A & B am still working. Do I need to get a Medicare supplement?
20% of a $920K hospital bill, write a check?

A ❤ballot measure to remove the or crush the caps by having we the people side stepping Congress to get done what Congress is unwilling to do by the vote of the. People. Could it work?
God help us all

Did not get the second installment for the november payment that I believe covers December. Did they change this again? thank you
Yesterday, I discovered that SSDI took $584 out of my disability check. I can't afford to live without that. I received NO notification. I'm devastated.
Why did they do that?
Did you call to find out why?
Yes, I just found out it was because I didn't update my Medicare & they dropped me & took 3 months worth of premiums out of it.
I reapplied.
No taxes on SS!
SS taxes HELP keep the bank full. They need to stay.
They don't tax SS alone, its only when you start taking money rom your other retirement funds. Then it's only a percentage of SS.
Don’t confuse SSI with SS two different programs.
Where can I download the summary of provisions that would change the social security program? I tried but can't see what you show online.
"CSI, Social Security." 😂 That really got a chuckle out of me. Very clear explanations. Thank you!
And how are people getting the trust fund instead of SSI
My question is I have been waiting to take my SS. I am 68 should I take it now so I will have benefits since it will be running out?
I definitely would take it now. It will take you roughly age 79-80 to break even . If you don’t need all the monies invest 20% of it.
What if the cap was raised to $200,000. How much would that affect the balance?
Not as much as you think Only around 4-5% today make over $175,000 a year
@ 9.5% make $150-200k and 14.5% make over $200k.
I agree it’s not going make a huge dent but I think part of the problem is making changes too fast. The bigger the change the more resistance. Like the minimum wage. Jumping to $15 in two years becomes untenable for many businesses.

Raise the CAP! The Wealthy need to pay their fair share. It an easy fix.
dee: How is raising the cap but not raising benefits, fair for the wealthy?
@@howardfriedman7077
Raising the cap does not unduly affect the wealthy, it simply.means they pay on a very small percent more of their income. We have a country where currently the top have more wealth than the bottom 92% of the population. Drawing on a vastly higher percent of the income the working poor and middle income earners than the infinitesimal percent of the wealthy to fund social security makes absolutely no sense.
