Replacing Satoshi Urushihara's art style with a generic one is absolute sacrilege.
And Urushihara's art style WAS generic at the time.
You can switch between the two an his art style was generic also.
Being able to switch to that art is the biggest selling point for me tbh

I really can't think of a reason for someone to not play with Urushihara original character design art.
Honestly though. I'm not even familiar with the Langrisser series, and I recognized Urushihara's signature art style immediately. The "updated" art just looks run of the mill by comparison.
because when langrisser 6 comes out it will probably have modern anime style

I can think of one reason. The OG art from what I've seen is extremely bulky. Lots of massive pauldrons and massive frills. While the new artstyle is a lot more subtle while still being faithful.

The problem with the new art style is that it looks like it was made on a budget.
The old art style is, “we’ve hired a popular manga artist to give life to our series.”
The new art style is, “we’ve hired someone desperate for work who can draw fast and cheap.”
I 'm really happy they kept the original character artwork. That artist did an amazing job.

From the looks from the trailer, you can only switch between the original version if the game or the remaster, not just the art. You cant have the new graphics and enhancements and the old art.

Sadly enough Langrisser Mobile looks LEAGUES above this. If they wanted to modernise Langrisser they should have hired guys from Zlong.

basically this lol. I grew up with 90s anime and whenever I tell people that was just the art style of the time it's like something doesn't click in their brains.
Langrisser design did stand out even by 90s JRPG standards. Mostly because they hired one of the best artists of that time (i.e. it was about polish, not originality), but still.

I would have purchased this if they had allowed us to use the original character designs with the remastered version.
Honestly I like the original graphics more and was disappointed when the "classic" option turned out to just affect the map.
It affects the character designs too, not just the map. It's a toggle.

Ooh, I hate that "marionette" style of sprites! Otherwise everything looks very clean and colorful!
IKR, not gonna get into the old vs new artstyle but the look of the sprites on the map is horrendous and take away a lot from the game polish with its sloppiness . . .

Why does the mobile game's character art look better, could they not get the same artist to do it? Like seriously the free mobile game is a direct translation of the original style, I'm confused why this isn't the same.

I prefer the old school anime art style. It has more details than the modern art style. It has a more simple, subtle look. While the older version has a identity of it's own by the artist's skills. And I'm a sucker for 80s 90s anime look.❤

Never played this game before but I will be buying this game when it releases next year because it looks great and it’s cool that u can switch from the OG art style or play with the remastered version art style.

These Fire Emblem people need to acknowledge rivals such as Warsong/Langrisser. Give it a try and don't ever play Langrisser 3. Just 1, 2, 4 and 5.

the original art is superior, this new art looks less gritty and more kid friendly
I like what the the new artists did with the designs for the most part, but I like the eyes in the old designs. Something about them have more emotion.
Urushihara still best anime art style
I would like the option to change the names of the characters to the Genesis / Mega Drive Warsong names. Calais is a better name for Jessica than Jessica, for example.

I can't wait for these games to come out. I do not know if ign or gameinformer will review the games, but if they don't I will check for a score on metacritic. I usually do not preorder games because I want to know the professional critic's response and score.

It's that old vintage charm. Makes in feel special. That and (never played this game) the old man and woman in the new style look like they're from 2 separate series.

I believe that the mobile version of Langrisser is much better than this one.
Ugh I'm seriously debating just cancelling my preorder, the fact the newer animations and illustrations look so cheaply done versus the old ones makes it almost not worth it to buy this now.

The art does look upgraded, but unfortunately, I don't think that makes it look better. After playing the Langrisser phone game, I really wanted to get into the console games. Too bad this is coming out one week after the ff7 remake.

You should have updated the looks of the gameplay and ingame graphics and UI without touching the art style.

when a console remake in 2019 is worse thanthe mobile game in every aspect, that is the very definition of fail.

None of the art shown is from the mobile game, to be honest. Which isn't using the original artist's work either.

The original Satoshi Urushihara character art is still 1000x better IMO
The new character art is lacking in detail and looks
over-simplified, and lacks "character" uniqueness and impact of design is lacking IMO
Disappointed the battle sprites are all Flash animated "paper-doll" art kind of lazy...overall presentation of this remake has too much of a Mobile-phone "look" to it. :(

Reading your comment has finally gotten me to look this up, because I've been wondering this for a long time myself.
In short, Growlanser is the spiritual successor to the Langrisser series. Both games have had alot of the same staff members involved for both series(Director/Producer, Lead Programmer, Scenario Writer/Designer, etc), and Satoshi Urushihara did the artwork for all 11 games cross both series as well.
