The fact they're charging $60 for these on top of already needing a year-long subscription is ridiculous. Nintendo should focus less on developing unnecessary hardware and focus more on making their online service worth it to consumers
Hopefully. But for games where a D-pad is actually quite beneficial, it's actually the opposite arrangement you'd want. Has anyone tried a left-side NES controller and a right-side Joycon with something like, say, Sonic Mania? You wouldn't be missing any buttons, just the analogue sticks, and I know the direction buttons in that game have the same functionality as the left stick, so you can use either interchangeably... It might actually be beneficial for a game like that...
I wish they would make the NES controller with two analog nubs where they would be on the Joycons, alongside the Home and Picture buttons, with the rails on the top. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Lol no ones saying he can’t if he truly wants there’s just flaws in the design of the remote controller as it’s exclusive to the switch itself and is a bit overpriced

This would never happen, but wouldn’t it be cool if you could mod your joy-con and replace the directional buttons with the d-pad from these controllers.
That would break game compatibility - some games use the directional buttons AS actual buttons. If a game does that, then it may fail with a d-pad since you can only press at most 2 'buttons' at once that way. It'd also completely break the functionality of using a single joycon as a controller. (for that to work you'd need a d-pad taking over the function of the stick, NOT the directional buttons.)
@@KuraIthys th-cam.com/video/IvbMv96FqbE/w-d-xo.html Its mainly for single player and fighting game use. It doesn't really matter about the "breaking functionality" problems where you can't press multiple buttons. It might be possible, I've seen a joy con that had the button holes cut so they could fit a wii u dpad and theoretically it should be possible to put a Nes d pad in there if it isn't too big

I got the SN30 pro controller from 8bitdo as a birthday present to myself this month and I really love it!! No way I'm spending $60 on these NES controllers now haha.
Paid Order Total $69.70 but I been putting off the purchase due to the price. I came to the conclusion I would regret not getting them later when they are gone and the SNES ones come in as I am sure they will spike in price when that happens. And I never pay over MSRP for anything unless it is something I must have so that justified the purchase anyways thanks for the video now to wait and see if I regret spending the money on it over getting a new game.
The 8bitdo dongle that allows you to use Gamecube controller wirelessly also works with the NES Classic controller. If you have that it's way better and ensures the controller will work with any game that doesn't require X, Y or shoulder buttons although SNES Class Controller works with it as well.
After you add a second dongle as well as the batteries the cost differences are negligible (and over time it ends up going the other way), and it doesn't ensure anything more regarding the controllers working with other games. If it will work with the 8bitdo dongle it will work with these.
Really great video as always! I wish they weren’t $60 that I feel like is just a little too much I feel for it to be worth it maybe at the $40ish price point then I’d get them.
Hey genius!! Yeah, you, the guy that made the video, those games can be played with the screen sideways so makes a little sense for it to be like that, but I wouldn’t hold the controller with switch supported by the controller. Might break.
I bloody love mine. Whenever a new game comes out that works great on them I tend to use them in lieu of all the rainbow colours of joycons I’ve got at the moment :) same for the snes one (if the game needs more buttons than the NES one). They’re just great to use. Now that n64 one is a fookin champion.
Having used these and Snes online controller - i wish they'd have had them so that you can charge with usb and just done away with these being 'joycons.' - they're no great to use attached imo. Also, they lack the versatility of the Snes controller in what you can play, i know this might sound like something captain obvious would say, but even the Snes online games you can use these with is limited - For example, Donkey Kong Country (a two button game) has no remap, using the Nes for that will see you have no run button and nothing you can do. If your wanting these as a collectable or puerly to use with the Nes sure get these - i rarely use mine as they don't have the versatility tbh and in the end feel novelty. Also if your on the go, they don't go in a lot of cases- being wider, not a deal breaker but to be considered. As the review says - closing software is daft, should have had a a home button. I'd love to see a version two - that gave these a bit more versatility with what i said - while staying true to the OG. If your wanting something more universal, play arcade archives, Snes titles etc. These are just not worth it at the scalper prices that are common imo. I will say they look super cool - apart from the top where they attach to the Switch and they are built really well. 🙋🏻♂️

Give us dedicated servers, add more retro games and/or add back VC, and integrate voice chat into the system along with messaging (We shouldn’t have to use a separate device).

Hmmm....
I'm sure you can use it while attached for any game which only needs a d-pad and a and b.
You can use it for any game detached that only need D-pad, a and b and L and R. Like mario kart, or puyo puyo
I get mine tomorrow!!
Why?
The fact they're charging $60 for these on top of already needing a year-long subscription is ridiculous. Nintendo should focus less on developing unnecessary hardware and focus more on making their online service worth it to consumers
You know Sony and Xbox charge 3 times give or take for only online?
Max Mottram don’t they give at least 2 free games a month, exclusive deals and exclusive items tho?
@@cummywummiez They do, plus they're full AAA games. PSN and Xbox Live may be more expensive, but they're a much better value.

60!? I wish, 90 in Canada, still bought them though LOL
would a joy con on the left and nes controller on the right work for smash? very important question
It should.
Can't you remap the smash controls? I can at least with the GC/pro controller.
They don’t
@singular on1 pac man championship edition 2? I own that game, would be way better with a NES controller.
thanks a lot for checking them out man , great channel sub+like
Is this controller good for Mario maker?
idk, i have the controller but not mario maker lol
I wish they would make the NES controller with two analog nubs where they would be on the Joycons, alongside the Home and Picture buttons, with the rails on the top. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Well that's, like, you're opinion, man.
I know everyone in the comments is bashing on these but I really want them
Memphis Martin but it’s $60 bro....
Who cares what those normie's are saying, if you want them just for collecting reasons, or in general, then go for it.
I only wanted it for collecting reasons, don't read peoples comments and have them make your decision for you.
Lol no ones saying he can’t if he truly wants there’s just flaws in the design of the remote controller as it’s exclusive to the switch itself and is a bit overpriced
You know what to do...
I can legit only see this set up useful for Smash TV for the NES which isn't on the online service lol. Just set up to 2 controllers / 1 player mode and the d-pads become the directional joysticks to move and shoot
Right now up untill january 10th 2020, these are half off, spread the word, copy this comment, i dont care, get these controllers
some loser what games do you use them for?
It looks like a screen with big ears 😄 bless the Switch 🙏🏽
There's no club like the Nintendo vip club 😎
@singular on1 Fuck you.
@singular on1 Its is sad that I can't play my WiiU games and virtual console games on my switch. I thought they would transfer my stuff over at lanuch but nvm it's Nintendo.
I got the full library of NES games with the 7 day trial and even after the trial ends the games are still on my switch
I think it's stupid since it's controllers with less buttons and might as well buy a nes classic if you got that nes itch.
True. And thats the only special offer they got so far months after their service launched.
The bad thing is that nintendo is not going to make more nes classics, i think is to force the honest consumers to buy the switch, the online service and these controllers...
@@j.h-j5j Nintendo could have canceled this thing months ago. But they didn't, because the Nintendo Online works for the tons of people bought it. You vocal minority have been shitting on Nintendo Online for months, while the vast majority find the service to be fine at what it's supposed to do, online multiplayer. If you guys want to make a difference, then how about actually telling everyone through social media to cancel their Nintendo Online subscription? Otherwise, your complaining about this service is just a waste of time.
Oliver Xu lol what? You’re paying for a previously free service that has NO improvements over the free one. The connection is still shit, but now you have to pay for it; you’re everything wrong with sucking off companies for doing shitty business moves.

Of course they are! For collection and looks alone!
Rather have more buttons. Like the snes controllers.
I would rather have more buttons like the xbox one elite controller.
@@bland9876 Xbox One Elite controller doesn't have more functions then the regular controller though. Some buttons are just remapped is all.
@@Krytern there are 4 buttons on the under side of the controller the regular controller does not have
@@bland9876 .... Please read my comment again. They are remapped.
your classic nes controller summoned the demon
This would never happen, but wouldn’t it be cool if you could mod your joy-con and replace the directional buttons with the d-pad from these controllers.
Actually you can mod your joycons to have a dpad. Its not the nes dpad but Im sure there is a mod out there for nes dpads.
I have a pair with a modded dpad and I've never had any issues even after playing a lot of games using the dpad as buttons with the one joycon.
It might be possible, I've seen a joy con that had the button holes cut so they could fit a wii u dpad and theoretically it should be possible to put a Nes d pad in there if it isn't too big
The best Switch D-Pad lol you made my day and you are soooo damn right :,)
B-but, is life worth buying?
for collectors yes
Great video. I can’t wait to get my controllers for the true retro experience
Before we talk about if the controller are worth buying
We need to see if the service itself is worth buying.
Answer: it isn't at all
Online service rating: 2/10
I don't get how the online service bad? it's 20 for a year, but 35 for 8 people, that's 4 dollars a year per person if you can find 8 people to share with.
other services cost 60 dollars for 1 person for a year, yes they have some more bonuses, but Nintendo Online is by far the best deal.
@@xavierh.5102 Dont know bout Microsoft but PS plus gives u plenty of discounts on games and a free game Every month that isent from 30years ago ,also used to get vita games along with it,not saying its great but Nintendo offers nothing i want atm. 60 dollars for controllers with 2 buttons that u can only use with games that are unplayable after your service runs out doesent sound that much of a special offer to me. What makes switch online suck is the quality, it is bad. Voice chat through a phone, Limited cloud saves, a 30 year old game rental service that gives 3 per month(and most of them suck), and online that hasn't had any improvement.

Yeah I just love his enthusiasm in his videos. It's like he doesn't enjoy what he does.
Then why are you watching
A home button and an indicator as to which controller goes on the + side and which goes on the - side. The +/- stuff just so you know which side to put each on without having to turn it around and look at the back.
Probably not worth it at all.
Not when you can get much more useful 3rd party controllers that still have good d-pads for the same price.
@@zkatt3238 like 8bitdo and Power A
I got the SN30 pro controller from 8bitdo as a birthday present to myself this month and I really love it!! No way I'm spending $60 on these NES controllers now haha.
wow these controllers have a built in kick stand...wow didn't expect that one. 10/10.
Paid Order Total $69.70
but I been putting off the purchase due to the price.
"you can stand it up I guess.. and now.. it's up?"
They are on sale now
Snagged them on sale!!
Do they work with the OLED switch?
🙋🏻♂️
Can you use these with mariomaker?
$71.16 with snh and taxes. I should get em in 6-10 days. Excited. Quality is 100% the same as original.
Worth noting you CAN remap the controls in Smash to make it work, but it would still look and feel weird.
Smash: I don't know what all the buttons (2) are going to be... the hardest fighting game is so hard to control
Nintendo needs to make some 2 player games that can be played in a competition holding the nes controllers like you would normally but attached to the screen.
at 9:49 anyone else notice on the middle of the board it looks like there are unused pads for another chip?
Little late to this, but Nintendo has a 50% off sale on these (plus $5 for shipping) through January 10, 2020. For $30, I couldn't resist. :)
3:21 It'd be cool in the 2p mode of SpiritsphereDX where you grab each side of the console.
the r button works as the home button in game, too, not just the menu
Yes they’re worth it. They’re great for family game night with the NES games
Definitely like to buy these, be great for a collectors piece even after the online service is gone lol
