    Stranded passengers witnessed chaotic scenes at Dubai International Airport after more than 1,200 flights were cancelled following an unprecedented storm on April 16, 2024, leading to widespread travel chaos. Authorities said the rain on April 16 was the heaviest in decades. It was the most rainfall to ever hit the UAE in a single day since records began in 1949.

    I don't think Dubai's water system should be the main focus here. Yes, they should have anticipated for unprecedented rainfalls. However recently not only in Dubai but on the other side of the world the climate are starting to get worsen, which is the real result of global warming

      There is heavy rainfall somewhere in the world every day, but sometimes it also hits regions with average rainfall such as Dubai and the UAE.
      I live in Bali and we have very heavy rains in a few hours a few times a year... it's absolut normal and no climat change.

      They barely got their piped sewage system installed after like 20 years. A citywide rain capture storm drain system would be novel, expensive, not used often, and doesn’t attract foreign investors.

    No city in the EU could manage 25 cm of rainfall in a single day, let alone a desert city. And yes, this was the work of Mother Nature, not cloud seeding. Even in the Netherlands, renowned for its water management, there were challenges in separating sewage from rainwater during heavy rainfall in 1992. It's not that uncommon.
    So, let's stop gloating just because some people in Dubai drive bigger cars than you do. OK?

      But, for a desert, I don't think the UAE should invest on a better drainage system. As someone in the UAE, Rain is very rare and doesn't always come in gargantuan amounts.

      @@amidnight UAE is a desert climate due to it's geographical location. Total annual precipitaiton for a desrt climate would be 0-250mm, this means that dubai is experiencing a years worth of rainfall in a day. No drainage system would be able to take a year's worth of rainfall, most are usually build to hold at most a few months worth of rainfall.

      @@starlight-bq2we no you don't quite understand. 250mm is 250liters per square meter. You only need drainage to take that to a lower lying natural system. Many places in the World get such deluges. Just last week we had 150mm in 24 hrs with no damage. 12 months or 1 month is irrelevant.

    my sisters currently has a job in a hilton hotel that opened last year i believe and she was there before it opended and the rain flooded the basement and pool room and the pumps and everything the whole basement was flooded and they had overtime like a couple hours more so they could get everything fixed after the rain stopped. it was extremly stressfull

    Guys this not how it looks like even thought it did flood in Dubai, they actually got rid of most water and the world’s busiest airport is now back to normall, everything is normall, and for those who are wondering this flood was not because of cloud seeding, it was natural and many countries like Oman got affected even worse 😢

    Everyone is frustrated, but it's mother nature creation. If the crew members cannot get to work at the airport because the streets, airport are flooded, how can the flight operate??? Everyone 's safely is the priority, the complaint man is not dying of medical emergency!
    With the type of budget Dubai has, it will solve the problems eventually. Please understand that its natural disaster!
    P/S, when we had the flooding in LA, + southern California, people were quick to blame the governor. Now central + Southern California is experiencing superbloom, wildflowers everywhere on field, even at Death Valley, one of the hottest desert 🏜️
