Wasn't this concept completely ambiguous? I mean, okay, they can recycle and reuse all the materials - carton, organics, etc., and also the houses are built from environmentally friendly materials like bamboo, but at the same time they have spent enormous amounts of gas by transporting all the materials and especially - sand - to actually build the islands? It would have been 100000 times more sustainable to just build bamboo houses on actually existing islands :D

would've appreciated a somewhat critical part of this whole project... everything beautiful also has its dark side, particularly in dubai. especially after talking about enivornmental concerns in the beginning of the video...
The problem is that more often than not that pisses people off. Chances are he wouldn't have been invited to that island simply because of the negative vibes that angle would bring to those he talks to in Dubai.
There you go, pretty brutal critique, the engineering part and that the islands will likely end up under water is priceless /watch?v=tJuqe6sre2I&ab_channel=AdamSomething
@definitely a proper username it all depends on your motive. As a journalist your motive is to inform others. You interview someone not to debate them, but get as much interesting positions from that person as possible. That just works better if you don't piss anyone off.
You can coat any criticism in the form 'critics often argue that ...' though, but should be careful that that doesn't get to obvious either.
@@dekippiesip "Chances are he wouldn't have been invited to that island simply because of the negative vibes that angle would bring to those he talks to in Dubai."
And would that be a bad thing? It's better to not have a video then spread misleading information. And it's not like we have learned anything. They have fancy hotels in Dubai? Wow, who would have guessed!
@@Fragenzeichenplatte it's generally a good thing to not break bridges with people that have the potential to (inadvertently) provide you with additional information. As a journalist you aren't an activist or a debater at a talk show that is lined up against someone with an opposing view. If you look at it from that perspective, that the goal is information extraction rather than convincing someone this totally makes sense.

The islands being eco friendly is actually brilliant
Sadly, they’re actually very damaging to the environment. The neighbouring Palm Islands (made by the same developers) were heavily criticised by Greenpeace. Their construction destroyed marine habitats and caused coastal erosion, and the breakwaters created huge sediment build-ups which buried coral reefs as it settled.
