  • I got in touch with Ryden Bikes - ryden.bike - as I noticed this really clever geometry tool and I wanted to test it on my bikes. Darren Ryden kindly sent me the tool for me to review.
    I am really interested in bike fit and this tool helps in replicating the settings to one bike to another and also store your favourite positions for future reference. Although it does not replace a bike fit, it helps out in measuring all the important settings using a ruler and the tilt angle sensor of your smartphone.
    I definitely enjoyed using it and will recommend it to anyone as an indispensable tool as it makes life so much easier comparing to the traditional plumb line measurements.
    Let me know your experience in the comments, thank you again for watching.
    Ciao,
    Federico

    Genius is so often found in simplicity. This tool looks SO useful for keeping two bikes setup up the same way. Thanks for the post!

    very important to get bikes with identical crank lengths. switching from a 175 mm to 172mm, coupled with different bike angles , different shoes and width/stance between the pedals was the reason for choppy pedaling and the start of meniscus knee problems ....

      Interesting, I am happy so far with the 175 that came with both bikes. Seems that now the trend is to go for shorter?

    Interesting video and the tool looks useful. I use a cheap laser level to cast a vertical line through my bottom bracket and then use a tape measure to read the x distance from the saddle mid point. Saves messing around with plumb lines. I have also used your hack to measure saddle height using the Shimano crank tool. The phone spirit level app is also great for measuring saddle tilt. Keep the videos coming.

    I've seen a video on another channel (Australian) where the guy has designed and made a very similar tool for next to nothing. Still a nice bit of kit though. Will no doubt be snapped up by all the set-up fanatics out there ( I include myself in that group, but am too tight to part with £45.00) I will persevere with the plumb-bob and measuring tape.

    One issue I have. Measuring from BB centre can be an issue if you have different crank arm lengths on different bikes.
    Using centre BB for saddle height will result in an inaccurate saddle height measurement in different crank arm lengths.
    Having different crank arm lengths will make saddle heights different and the centre BB measurement is mute. I have 4 bikes. 1 fixed with 170 cranks, a a TItanium gravel with a 170 crank. My two other bikes can with a 172 crank as standard and to change these is much too expensive.
    Trying to set up these 4 bikes with differing crank lengths is a real pain and took such a long time.
    Do you think this tool would help with different crank lengths instead of centre BB measurement?
    Thanks for the vlog, very interesting 🙂🙂👍

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely right, I didn't mention the crank arm lengths. I have 175mm on both bikes. I believe there is a formula to work out the difference between different ones, but I haven't looked into it properly. Do you feel a lot of difference between them?

    • @bikepackingadventure7913
      @bikepackingadventure7913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fede1275 oh yes, the slight difference of over extended leg length which can result in me getting illiotibial band inflammation and pain. Especially over longer distance rides.

    Does the tool measure angle position of shifters and also the saddle?

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I use the iPhone level for the saddle and tape to measure the shifters distance from the bar end.

  • @rangersmith4652

    If one has a pair or more of bikes intended for exactly the same purpose, setting them up exactly the same makes sense. But if, like me, your bikes' purposes are all a bit different, such as a "race" bike and an "endurance" bike, you would be using different setups intentionally. In such cases, the tool still has merit, of course.

    • @fede1275
      @fede1275  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I use this tool mainly to replicate the same set-up on similar road bikes. Or to store the settings if you need to select or analyse a different bike.
