Swathi madam you speak so well and your communication skills are amazing. Very kind of you to share this valuable information. I know many will benefit watching your video
Hi Swathi, I spoke to the CBP office at our port of entry. They told the declaration can be done only to personal jewellery that has unique serial number engraved on it. Otherwise they don’t accept. But I don’t think the jewellery purchased in India will have this unique code engraved on it. So in short, this form cannot be used for jewellery purchased in India
Good to know there’s an official form for this. I take pics of any jewelry I take to India and keep it ony phone as it’d have date/time stamps showing that I had them even before I traveled. This form is more official way I suppose. CBP hasn’t mandated this form to travelers yet… I’m sure that’ll come at some point. people wearing small jewelry like bangles or simple necklace etc on them may not raise a red flag… but one must use common sense and our best judgement imho. I have been lucky I haven’t been asked much in my decades of travel back/forth, but when asked, I’ll never lie. I don’t volunteer if they don’t ask but nothing is worth lying imo.
Thanks for sharing your experience. As per my understanding, this form is totally optional, and since things change so frequently, It's always good to call & check with your CBP office about this form before making the trip. You can find relevant links in Video description.
Thanks for sharing this helpful information. Suppose I carry some old gold/silver jewelry from here and exchange/sell them for new jewelry paying incremental cost, I am supposing I do not have to fill the form while leaving US to show what I am taking, and I declare only the final incremental cost for the new jewelry while coming into US. Is that correct? Or would CBP expect to me to also show the evidence that I carried my old jewelry from here?
If you are planning to change jewelry in India, it may not make sense to register them here prior to travel. When you come back with new/changed jewelry, they might be eligible for customs duty if it's beyond allowed limit of 800$
Hi Swathi Thank you for the valuable information. I have couple of questions Do we have to show the purchase receipt to them ? Can we do this cbp even though we r not traveling right now? Thank you so much once again for sharing this information.
You can carry anything, but you may be asked to pay customs in your destination country as per the rules there. For India customs, I have provided some links in the description. If you registered your bangles here in the US before your travel, you can bring it back to US without paying customs here. That's the idea, but then things can always change. Pls go through the description.
I was asked to use 4455. You can call port of entry office and find out what they prefer for your scenario. I bought my wedding Jwellery from India with out declaring but I have all receipts of that..now I’m traveling to india,if I declare it now at USA,do I need to pay duty for all that Jwellery??
@@VAIS-SwaWorld But @3:18 you said, "The officer signed the form." But where did you meet the officer? Did you make a special trip to the CBP office prior to the date of travel? OR Did you meet them at the airport and have them sign it?

You can find the link to CBP POE offices in Video description. Please call your local office and make sure this process still exists before making the trip as things keep changing all the time..
One question, do I need to take prior appointment with CBP office or is it just Walk-in to verify jewelry and get form 4455 signed. My port of entry is Chicago.

Hi Swathi, I have my wedding jewelry brought here by my mother. Now when I go visit India I’m planning to take them with me. Do I need to pay 13% tax in rupees when I reach India? Also, I noticed one comment said gold can be personal item and don’t need to be declared. Is that true? Kindly give me your thoughts… Thank you! ❤
Hi, from what I know, gold should be declared if it's above the allowed limit. You can check the India customs related links in the video description. Also if it's a jewelry purchased in India and if you have some receipts to prove it, I don't think you'll need to pay customs duty again since you must have paid tax in India when purchasing those Jewelry but I'm not 100% sure on what the customs officers might do there, hence try to contact the agents mentioned in the links or call India customs offices before traveling and find out the exact details. If you return to US again with that Jewelry, remember to declare them as your personal jewelry, have some pictures to prove that u own them and be prepared to pay import duty here if they ask you to.

Were the items you carried bought in the US or India? What happens if the jewellery we bought was from India and was not declared prior to getting from US(not intentional but because of lack of knowledge of the form)?
