I travel to USA and Europe often and never had a problem moving metal in my carry on bag. I always keep it under $10k. The TSA screener WILL stop you every time and ask to inspect your metal. Most screeners are astonished at how beautiful and shiny gold and silver look up close. Most have never held precious metals before. It's kinda fun seeing their reaction.

Do you think I'll be ok moving gold ounce Britannia coins from UK to European country, declaring them at their £100 each face value, but keeping it under the 10k euro restrictions? Can't seem to find conclusive national info on this?

@@stephencowie2641 If you keep the metal value under $10k and tell the security screener that it's your "Grandpa's collection" there should be no issues. I've done that many times at airports and it always worked. 90% of people have no clue about precious metals.

@@peaceandfreedomeconomics8984 Thanks so much 4 the info. A London bullion dealer just told me he doesn't even worry in Europe with gold sovereigns, due to copper additive he just mixes them with other coins + they only have a £1 ($1.30) face value

I asked this very question about face/value market value of coins from a respected dealer. I'm in EU. Reply: For a long time it was face value which was used to determine the value. Now things changed and EU customs are slowly changing into calculating metals value based on market price. Anyone can confirm this who recently traveled within EU?

Very specific information seems hard to come by about taking silver out of china. I have around 30oz that I've acquired here over the years. I'm leaving the country soon and have no idea if they're going to confiscate it or not
