    2024 UPDATE: Lenses for the NX mini are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially the 17mm. I am going to start recommending most people in the market for a 1" camera with interchangeable lenses should choose the Nikon 1 system instead - it has similar lenses available and they are much easier to find at a decent price.

    I recently re-purchased a Nikon 1 V1 after selling it some years ago. I always managed to get decent pics from it but could not use it as a backup to my dslr body. Since then i have wanted a mini/pocketable system for non photography trips. Using it now makes me realise how good the system was despite the bashing it recieved. It is also surprising how much tech was migrated to the Z system.

      Nikon 1 is a very good alternative to the nx-mini system, with better AF and better lens choices. I'll be a doing a video on it sometime soon. I have a J5 but always wanted a V3 - something about modular system like that just fascinates me.

      Also got my self a V1 + lots of lenses for bargain price. If you want better quality but very compact a Nikon Coolpix A might be an idea? I own one. Fixed 28mm f2.8 with great APS-C sensor, 16,2mp. I believe sensor of a Nikon D7000/7200? But the 28mm lens is made especially for the Coolpix A and it is really really sharp!

    So I absolutely love this camera. I have one and I am going to say this outright. This camera is better than the Sony RX100 line. I absolutely 100% believe that outright. The only thing Sony got going for it is that they added EVF to the RX100. Other than that, the Samsung NX mini is a fantastic camera and I get really good video and photography out of this camera. The range of color that I get is fantastic and it’s the only camera that I own that I don’t color grade. I took some photos in the winter right after it snowed a few years ago, the brightness of the snow, and the depth of color that came from the clear blue sky, and the glistening of the snow on the trees was absolutely amazing and perfect and the depth of field was so good and the color depth range that I was able to get out of this camera I mean I have the Samsung NX1 and that camera takes fantastic pictures but when it comes to something that’s small and I can carry anywhere. The Samsung NX mini will never fail.

      I think finding the 17mm will be very difficult as prices are going up and its no longer common. For people who need a 50mm equivalent lens in a tiny camera, the Nikon 1 system is an alternative, because the lenses are much easier to find.

    Finally, another enthusiast look into this camera in serious tone and dug up this hidden gem. Born in 2014, NX mini was seen as a shallow cosmetic camera for the selfie +cosmetic filter obsessed Asians. Back then people look into this camera as enemy of serious photography, and even me bought this selfie toy to my girlfriend (now my wife) knowing she is obsessed with selfies and IG. Eventually my gf used a few time and let our anniversary gift sucking dust. That is when i took that Barbie Pink nx mini for a test. At first, i test this camera with sense of despise, expecting it to perform poorly just like that Casio selfie junk... it is that night of field test then i realized camera is a no non-sense which features an 1" CMOS, full manual controls and tons of features to be discovered. Contarary to your view on the 9mm pancake, I actually quite like it given its small size and superb image quality. It literally convert Mini to a street snap beast with 24mm view. I have also acquired thr 9-27 a day earlier after watching your video. That is my second time using the 9-27mm, unlike my first one, which struggled alot to be sharp, this copy actually performs very well from 9-27. Perhaps 9-27 has a huge sample variations among copies and i was lucky to own a better lens this round.

      Yes, I remember when it was new it was heavily promoted on makeup and beauty channels, not photography ones. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1" systems are quite lovely but why the NX Mini and not the Nikon 1? The latter had significantly better lens support and was only discontinued by Nikon in 2018 with the introduction of the full frame Nikon Z system. And I say it as a fan of Samsung mirrorless systems, I actually have a Galaxy NX on its way to my doorstep

    • @leadwhite1249

      I own an use both (and have reviews on both systems). Some advantages of the nx mini - even smaller and lighter, has usb charging, and the 50mm lens has stabilization. Advantages of the Nikon 1 - better autofocus, better screen, wider lens selection.
      For someone who has neither, I recommend the nikon 1 now, simply because the prime lenses for the NX mini are becoming very rare to find in 2024.

    So I have the 9 to 27 mm lens and that’s the only lens that I have for the camera currently but I feel like if that’s the only one you have it’s very usable and you can get a lot out of it and while I do see the advantage of getting the 9 mm lens And if you’re lucky enough to find the 17 mm lens go for it but I do think that there is still a lot of use that you can get out of the camera if you only have the zoom lens.

  • @yourcomputerhasvirus7733

    Honestly, why not just use something like an rx100 mark 3? It has the same versatile focal range (24-70mm equivalent), has a built in ND filter, an electronic viewfinder, and better controls. Sure, the lens isn't removable, but it's versatile enough as is and retracts to a pancake lens' size.

    • @yourcomputerhasvirus7733
      @yourcomputerhasvirus7733 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And if you can stretch your budget, the mark 4 gets you phase detection autofocus that is blindingly fast, along with 4k recording, an even better viewfinder, and eye watering continuous drive speeds

    • @leadwhite1249
      @leadwhite1249  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are just shooting on the kit lens, the RX100 is probably a better choice, but if you have the prime lenses (especially the 17mm) then you have some options that are not available on the Sony. But the prime lenses are getting hard to find these days.

    • @yourcomputerhasvirus7733
      @yourcomputerhasvirus7733 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @leadwhite1249 well the 17mm is basically 50mm în FF equivalent. The one advantage would be that it is f1.8, whereas the rx100 drops to f2.8 the moment you start zooming in. But over the 9mm pancake the rx100 wins by a mile. f1.8 vs f3.5, plus image stabilisation that the pancake lacks.

      The S21 has more megapixels than the NX500, but the actual image sensor inside the NX500 is about 5 times larger than the phone. Image quality is more about sensor size and lens characteristics than megapixels, so the NX500 is the better camera. But the S21 may be more convenient to use.

      I was going to mention it on the video, but I cut it for time. They definitely designed an NX Mini 2, but it never went on sale, probably because Samsung gave up on the camera market around that time. From what I've seen, it had a black body, interchangeable front plates, and had 4k video. It's a real shame it was never released.

    To claim that this very old camera wins hands down against smartphones does not stand at all. Smartphones, such as the latest high end offerings from Apple, Samsung etc., can provide way better pictures. Next time, instead of just saying the NX mini provides way better pictures, this should be proven using various scenes and scenarios
