      🔥🙏I respect your decision, but imho the 120MP, 24 stops of IBIS, Flog3, 8000 hours of battery life and medium format sensor just doesn't justify the 28g weight increase for something that is supposed to fit my pocket.
      Plus, it will take Squarehood a few weeks to make a hood that makes it look like I'm shooting with a Summicron, and there's no way I'd be caught IRL without one.
      Hard Pass for me since the GRIV will be out any minute now anyway.

    Call me crazy, but the camera i miss the most it's a shitty Sony point and shoot, no manual controls, only JPEG, but the smallest, lightest and chepaest camera i have owned. I thought "my smartphone can do the same and more, just give away the shitty camera". Well, it's not the same, that shitty camera was way cheaper than my smartphone, the zoom was great for the size (25-250mm equivalent), the size overall is smaller than a credit card and thinner than most small point and shoot. And even if i wanted to edit, Lightroom can extract a lot of info from JPEGs. The camera was the Sony WX-100 or something like that

      I bought a Canon Elph 360 in March. I have to carry a work phone and don't take personal pics with it. I'm not going to buy a Ricoh GR3 for an everyday walking around camera. It's too big, too expensive and doesn't have a flash. Lightroom will make up for 90% of deficiencies of shooting jpeg in auto. Save that money, special gear and expertise for when you actually need it, not just catching pics as you go about life. And it's less likely to cause me to get robbed. And if I find something amazing or a great place to shoot, I can probably come back with my better gear another day.

    Something I learned about my CoolPix A is to learn to visualize. Photos come out way better than they look on the LCD screen. A lot of people do not realize that you can load custom profiles onto your Nikon which is great if you are a JPEG shooter. I shoot RAW and there is RAW processing software beyond LR that can give you amazing results. As for the look and feel of your camera, some YT photographer said that having a camera that inspires you to pickup ans shoot is very important.

    I dived into photography start of last year and straight away bought myself a few cameras a Nikon p610 for a bridge, a canon 1300d for a DSLR and an Olympus tg-6 for a point and shoot ,(which I actually owned for 3 years or so) after learning a lot, watching a lot of videos and shooting a lot I own different cameras all together now and sold the others. My DSLR is a canon 1D which on first glance looks like a downgrade from the 1300d but photographers will know that it's a massive upgrade in disguise. For my bridge cameras I use a Sony rx10 mark 3 and a Lumix fz1000, I wanted these because of the Zeiss lens and the Leica lens but also because I got really good deals on them and they are the cameras that can keep up with today's 'standards' my point and shoot is a Nikon p7100 now which again looks like a downgrade from the tg-6 but it's so much better. So many people blab on to me about pixel density and all these modern features but photography for me is about capturing moments and has become a lot more private.
    As an amateur capturing a photo on the canon 1D is a huge experience, finding that every tiny thing is manual and fiddling around until you have a picture that has good exposure and no noise is a huge learning experience, there's no hand holding, I'm finding it's the best way to learn the bare bones of photography. So as for the every day carry, the Nikon Coolpix p7100 is just a really gorgeous camera that's on the cheaper end of the market ATM, it's probably half the price of the Coolpix a dx, it's not as compact though and the aesthetic is a lot different, but still pleasing.
    To me my favourite of all my cameras is the p7100, I love everything from the look that the ccd sensor seems to give images, it's 10mp so plenty of resolution really, it's slowed me down with my photography also being old tech it can be a bit slow at times which means I really think about what I'm about to photography rather than just blatantly shooting any and everything. The images it produces are extremely beautiful and I keep 99% of those images private and stored on my computer. I also love sending the pictures off to be printed on quality film paper and storing them in an album also. There's something different about using a camera over the phone from the obvious points like image quality, I don't care how many mp someone's phone is my 10mp p7100 will always do it better in my eyes just because of sensor size alone. But yeah, aesthetics are very important, it's about leading an analogue life. We seem to use our phones for everything these days, but you don't sh!t where you eat..

      @brugj03 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don`t get it. You now shoot manual wit a 4Mp Canon 1d, the very first DSLR and you also have a rx10 3. How can you ever even make a choice that you don`t regret.

    A long time ago (film era) we had oodles of choice in different budgets for suitable EDC cameras. My personal favourites were Yashica T5 (I loved the built in WLF), the awesomely pocketable Minox folding 35mm cameras, moving up to a different size the Olympus 35RC (there were many other brands also producing the small rangefinders, which are also very cool) and once we get to SLR proportions an ME Super with a 40mm pancake. I still own the last 3, but stupidly I sold the first. Boy do I regret it. Then came the digital age and initially there was a plethora of choice of truly small cameras, all with zoom lenses. My wife and I used to fight over who got to carry our Sony WSC something with its 28 to 135mm zoom range. It even had a tiny OVF for when one could n't see the screen properly. It survived many years and was very reliable until it eventually succumbed to dust on the sensor, which being small showed up very clearly as a large ugly blob. With the decline of the camera market though, new options are very limited and when shooting digital I typically carry an X-T10 with TTartisans 27mm or 35mm lens attached. The X-Too cameras look so cool IMO, handle so well and in this configuration are still nice, light and compact.
    Nowadays I am devoting a lot more time to shooting film again, especially with smaller PAS or rangefinder bodies. I am enjoying having a lot of fun spending very little trying to find the ideal camera to replace that T5 I regretfully sold - there is no way I am splashing out on what they go for now, with their ageing electronics. Recent purchases I have liked being a Ricoh FF-9, Agfa Optima and Konica C35. All are very sweet and very cool in their own way.
    The last word in coolness though is really my grandfather's Voigtlander Vito IIa, made sometime in the 1950's when he purchased it and still working just fine with only one service carried out in 2012. Small enough to fit into a jeans pocket when folded, a super contrasty 50mm f3.5 Color Skopar lens and a real conversation piece when people see me carrying it. Aah.... I wish someone would make a digital folder

    • @richardhale9664
      @richardhale9664 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeeRosa I was desperately short of funds at the time and it was either the T5 or ME Super that had to go. At the time it was the right choice, but looking at how the market has played out in the succeeding 25 years, I wish I had kept the T5 instead. It would have been a lot easier (and cheaper) to replace the Pentax.

    I'm rocking the Pen-F for an everyday carry! U bet your ass people want to see it up close and mistake it for a film camera :D I mostly shoot monochrome JPEGs with it too so the pics coming out from it is amazing. I'm using a 20mm F1.7 pancake so it fits in my jacket pocked in the colder months and during summer I use a shoulder strap FjeldReven bag which is classy and sleek here in Scandinavia. It is not the cheapest setup, but still budget friendly, u could also go for a EP-5 or EP-7 from Olympus, both are good option with the same pancake lens.

    Point 5 is super important, I couldn't imagine taking out a Sony A7C that is small but is designed for 50 year olds or such a clunky Canon camera that looks like it got stuck in 2007 in a casual setting. In the end nobody outside of DSLR forums will see a difference in the sharpness or 1 stop more background blur in the photos you take, I'd argue most people even prefer a whacky vignette or dreamy softness when they casually take photos. I wish Fujifilm would do a 27f2 because I prefer that for everyday over 23 and 35, and possibly they could sacrifice some image quality for an even smaller bodybelow 40mm

    I recently changed up my EDC (to X-E4 + Voigtländer 27mm f2) and my thought process almost completely aligned to this. In particular: I made this change based on having made mistakes you mention before!
    I'd add one more thing: think about what compromises you'd be okay with *in general* and dont' assume you'll like the same as others. Case in point: people rave about the leaf shutter of the X100 series, but I absolutely hate them (aside from their silence, which is cool). You can't shoot wide open at 1/4000th? And just in general: my max mechanical shutter speed changes depending on aperture? This made me kinda hate using that camera. It felt so inconsistent.
    A compromise I realised I totally was okay with was giving up AF. So I got the Voigtänder 27mm (my favorite focal length) with an relative bright f2 aperture that is non-negotiable indoors in Norwegian winters (we tend to keep things dimly lit for some reason). And this lens is even smaller than the Fuji 27! Absolutely loving this combo. Also I like the more kinda stubby proportions it, it's like a chubbier cuter X100V.
    Thanks for the video as always. Probably one of the very best camera advice videos on TH-cam I've ever seen!

    Please, the cameras are not readily available ANYWHERE anymore. I have contacted all the cameras stores in my area, even B&H and no one has any Ricoh or Fulifilm ……. I feel that sometimes TH-camrs are putting out videos of things that they know doesn’t exist. Even the Canon powershots G7 are discontinued and not available anywhere else.
    And the waiting lists for this cameras are just getting bigger and longer than ever before.
    And this has being the case for at least 4 years now……. I feel like if TH-camrs are making videos of things they know doesn’t exist any longer in the market just for the sake of clicks, views and monetization.
    Whomever uploads videos reviews of these cameras is like listening to a PhD dissertation of something that doesn’t exist.
    Pardon me if I come across frustrated , but I am. I wanted a Ricoh GR III X and I would have to buy the Sony RX 100 VII because that’s the only one available in one of the stores in my area.
    Forgive me for my harshness, my intent is not to disrespect you or your hard work. 😓

      I didn’t recommend any specific camera. It’s a guide to figure out what kind of camera you want. I said you can shoot a DSLR. Film SLR. Etc.
      Discontinued cameras aren’t always available. But cameras like the Nikon Z30, Canon Autoboy, Canon P, Sony ZV-1, RX100 line, and more are readily available if it fits you.
      This Nikon Coolpix A I’m using isn’t the best. But I like the images. But I’ve used many cameras, some rare and some not. It’s more about knowing what you like in a camera and not a specific camera.

    • @StrivingMen

      @@DeeRosa you are right in saying that your didn’t recommend any camera. ….. I was reacting to the line when you mention Ricoh, Fuji etc and then said “they are somewhat readily available” ……. That was the part that threw me off. I like the part when you said not to purchase a camera with a focal length that you aren’t use to shoot with. That’s a very honest assessment because I am more of a 50 MM + shooter and my choice for the Ricoh would have been that one that has the equivalent 50MM lens.
      I noticed that you mentioned that the protruding lens of the Sony RX 100 VII could bring in dust into the sensor.
      I thought this was an issue only with the Ricoh ones.
      The only thing that is making me hesitating to purchase the Sony RX 100 is the 1 inch sensor. I have full frame and APS-C, they are both outstanding, but the 1 inch, I think is even smaller than the Micro Fourth Third sensor !
      Do you think than the 1 inch sensor produces better photos than my new iPhone 13 Pro ?
