Dude, honestly I feel like you could take any camera ever made and create beautiful stunning images with it no matter how old or new it is. You're one hell of a photographer!
Everyone can, thats why we have amazing photographs since photography started, i mean, is the confort of the camera and you, more than the pure pixel quality :)
Every time I watch one of your videos I have to talk myself out of buying the camera you just reviewed. Very great videos from an amazing photographer. I love the way that you display the sample images.
it's a shame that nobody appreciated samsung mirrorless cameras..they are top notch and some lens for the nx are truly remarkable! (like 16-50mm f/2,0-2,8)
I took 10 digital compact cameras from 2001 to 2005 that range from 5 to 7 megapixels and all of them were capable of producing great images, and some won blind tests against a dslr with good glass. It’s all in the photographer and their content.
I'm coming back to this video cause I just pulled the NX Mini out of the closet in mid 2020. I'm surprised how ahead of this time the NX Mini is. The tripod mount is dead center on the lens. The lens is made of metal. The top bar of the body is metal. The touch menu implementation is quite good. Menus are easy to understand and navigate. Display quality is still good for 2020. The side loading SD slot and battery is genius so you never have to take it out of a tripod. And it charges from USB power which a lot of cameras didn't do back then. Even the buttons on the back are tactile and responsive. Back in 2014 when this launched. Not a lot of cameras had touchscreens. Or flip screens. Or touch autofocus. This came with it and implemented well. Face AF was there too. The camera would even automatically turn on if you flip the screen. A lot of cameras have these features today, but not all of them still. The few things that have improved with newer cameras though are: 4K video, autofocus speed, and low light performance. Which is somewhat expected. Now I kinda wish I could find one of those 17mm f1.8 lenses...
I had an NX300 for my first camera with an 18mm pancake lens. It was my gateway drug into the world of photography and got an X100 afterwards. Still with Fujifilm now with an Xpro2.
Sorry for the nechroposting, but I wonder if, as a 'Fujiman' if there are possibly any feature (specs or ergonomical) they may lack that the NX300 has/had you you miss.
Your knowledge of all these fringe cameras is impressive, Mattias. I say fringe only because they're not really what one might call mainstream. I've learned about all kinds of cameras I never knew existed from watching your videos. Cheers.
You should do cheap camera challenges. Get a cheap camera that may or may not be name brand or even kid cameras and show people you can take good pictures on anything.
@@reallymentalpig1173 you mean the kit lens? Probably not, look into getting a good prime like a 35mm with a wide aperture. The fact that it is a dead system means you can find lenses for cheap.
I remember this! I almost bought one cheap. The only down side is when I took a closer look at the raw files, they were somewhat cooked, it was either over sharpen or too much denoise - in raw mode no less.

Marc8 Sorry I meant flange focal distance. Camera with shorter flange focal distance can accept with adapter other lenses which are made for cameras with longer flange distances without loosing focus to infinity. Check Wikipedia for the article: Flange focal distance.
Samsung made a big mistake marketing this very capable camera as cosmetic junk like Casio TR. Still looking for the 17mm F1.8, it's extremely difficult to find. Nice pictures btw! You revived the system.
I love my Samsung NX300, I bought it for $70 on eBay. The NX mount is weird. I use it with an old FD lens since the NX lens are so much money, and I love the manual focus through it. It's been the one I bring with me everywhere, it's comfortable in the hands, and the I LOVE the scroll wheel on the top. Samsung makes niiiice cameras, and it's a shame they don't produce them anymore, but the market truly is oversaturated.
Mattias Burling yes i do. You are a great photographer who makes the best of small equipments. Which encourages us to work hard with the cameras we have✌🏻 you should try to post a video with the basics of photography. Would love it😊
I've been looking at reviews on this little camera as I am thinking of buying a secondhand one as new ones are not available in Australia. All reviews so far on this camera has been positive - thanks for great info.
Looking back at this now, since this didn't have a mechanical shutter and the sensor being quick, if it had continued to go on, we would have had computational photography on actual cameras by this point.
I bought one of these a year ago, and have used it to create some really nice quality video and stills. The 'selfie mode and face-recognition is quite good.
The Fuji XF1 and the Fuji X20 also had small sensors but they produced a much better outcome in my opinion. Actually the X20 is the reason why I ended up switching from Canon to Fuji. Anyway thanks for the review!
I've recently bought a Samsung NX300 to use with my old Canon fd mount and nikon F mount lenses. All I can say is that it produces nice image quality and sharp pictures. It is certainly a nice addition to my equipment, next to my Canon DSLR and all my film cameras
Mattias Burling I beg to differ: didn't Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Olympus, Leica (Leitz?), Zenit, Hasselblad and a couple of dozens more coexist fine for decennia through the analogue era? And so did a dozen more through the early digital age - Fujifilm, Casio, Kyocera (by the way, they had some very charming physical designs back in the first few years of the century, but with a tiny sensor and a horrible battery life), Kodak (ugly cameras, as far as I recall), HP (idem), until the combination of compliance, poor design (in many cases), disinterest in the market segment and lack of resolve and will for bettering themselves, along with the evolution of camera phones and later smartphone cameras squeezed half of these companies out of the photography sector. Good thing Fujifilm lingered on, understood the emotional appeal of the retro design and actively partook in the mirrorless revolution with commitment, while Canon and Nikon were testing on their laurels. Most of the snapshot camera manufacturers exited the business not so much because the market was oversaturated as because the market was saturated with players who cannot commit (and through emergence of the proper smartphone). A bit like HP buying Palm's excellent webOS and disposing of it months later - failures engendered by corporate decisions by business bureaucrats (that like to hate the likes of Steve Jobs and Elon Musk, but secretly admire or at least covet their genius) unable to commit to anything, presumably including wives and lovers. Nikon and Canon may follow suit unless they get together, denounce complacency they've shown a great resolve of, and start innovating. Panasonic could risk an involuntary exit of the market if they (same for Olympus) do not diversify their lines into the full-frame and APS-C sub-segments (or do so overdue) and do not update some of their most successful products (i.e., the Lumix LX100), but Sony (save for their prohibitively expensive lenses and the poor range of lenses for their APS-C system) appears to be in a very solid position at the moment. I would say, Sigma's camera division is in a precarious position, and so is Pentax/Ricoh.
LeoInterHyenaem but it is over saturated. Fuji, Sony, Panasonic aren't making any money. The analog instax cameras is whats keeping fuji alive and Panasony is financed through other divisions.
Mattias Burling Really? Are you saying, Fuji isn't making profits from real camera sales? Methinks, they're doing fairly well in the mirrorless APS-C and MF segment. They're even planning launching a sub-€4.000 MF body soon. That's not too say, there are no issues with the Fuji ecosystem: the lenses may be optically very good, nice and compact and feel like real lenses with their metal construction, but the proneness of lenses like the optically excellent 90mm F2 to malfunction, the fairly useless focus-by-wire MF, the lack of IS in the X-T2 and excessive size and weight of the X-H1, the less-than-mediocre AF in X-T2, the convoluted menus and the fairly poor support for Fuji files in the most mainstream DAM and Raw Converter (i.e., Lightroom), as well as in macOS Finder / QuickLook - are clearly begging for improvement. If I could afford, I'd supplement My Fuji ecosystem with Sony's A7r -series ) of which I had the first generation for a couple of years before selling it and procuring an X-T2 because of the slow AF and the exorbitant expenditure on native lenses, but also the lure of Fuji's [with its dedicated dials, beautiful design and the tiny for APS-C format, lenses] charm ) and a Hasselblad X1D and compatible lenses.
LeoInterHyenaem the financial reports are pretty obvious. Basically Canon and Leica are the only companies that turns a profit from selling digital interchangeable lens cameras.
Even if this camera is no longer in production and has gone obsolete, it’s market value literally has not dropped after all these years they are still between 300-500 on eBay! I really enjoyed mine and the sound quality was fantastic on video mode but terrible in low light, however that can be fixed with a good ring or fill light.
To be honest, I'm just sad Samsung doesn't continue with its mirrorless camera business in general (I know, i know, they're still making them....but you get my point). The NX1 is very good, menu makes sense, very good spec at the time (and still pretty good today), good handling and so on. It's a shame that it doesn't get traction as Fuji and Sony do.
My man you're on a roll this is another great camera I've never heard of, I always ask myself why doesn't Samsung make a dedicated camera a little bigger than their cell phones it would be awesome and here it is.. even many modern cameras does not have a front facing display, the only thing that would make it better was a manual focus knob
Thanks for the video, nicely done! I guess I'm not the only one, but I have to ask: where can you buy the NX-mini C-mount adapter? Or who made it? Have been looking all over the place and nobody seems to sell that...
I had one of these. The IQ was truly outstanding. I sold mine because in bright light, I couldn't see the screen (and I live in Florida, where sunlight is always an issue). Handling was a little weak too, but it was tiny and easy to carry and again IQ was terrific.
Sorry that Samsung left the camera market. I still occasionally use my NX210 for street photography. I love it just as much today as the first day I bought it some years ago.
A cute little gem of a camera! Had it a larger sensor, manual mode dials, better manual focus lenses, Focus Peaking, Focus Assist and a broader lens selection, it would be the best tiny take-along (given it did maintain its current size).
Ah man. All of your videos make me want to buy whatever camera it is you're reviewing. Can you please do a review on the worst camera you've ever used, and I'll see if I still want to buy it. No doubt you'll take amazing pictures with it, even still. Perkele!
I dont know about NX mini kicking butt of RX100 series... But I was very happy user of NX lineup and I would be still using it until this day if only Samsung did not abandon it. I would personally vote it the most underrated system of all times.
This reminds me of the Nikon 1 series. That Nikon 1 system gets bad reviews on the internet, but I question if those people actually used the Nikon 1 as it’s a great camera (the best auto focus I’ve ever used, great meter, fast).
Yeah. I was pleasantly surprised with them. They're just annoying that they fall short by holding back key features. Almost as if they were trying to limit the success of their mirrorless system. Their implementation of Wi-Fi is the worst.
drew604uk :) I completely agree, especially with Nikon's poor wireless. I've used so many different brands wireless implementations, and even the good ones (like Panasonic and Fujifilm) are mediocre at best. Nikon's wireless features are definitely the worst as ther's no control whatsoever. I also feel like if the Nikon 1 series could shoot 4K it'd be recognized more favorably, especially coupled with the super silent and fast auto focus and small/light interchangable lenses. :)
LOL, that comment just made my day (beyond your video, obviously - hopefully, will not have nightmares about tortured iPhones and digicams tonight. :) ). Did not even think about your hidden agenda with this one, but it makes perfect sense. :)
Hi Mattias, I know that the 17mm 1.8 lens is bad ass. But does the 9mm still beat cell phones? And is this camera pocketable when the 17mm lens is attached? Great videos! Thank you!
Hey great video I have just got my hands on one , where can I find a D mount adapter please ? Have you tried any c mount lenses on the nx mini ? Thanks
I recently got a fuji x-pro 1 for what I saw as reasonable, only 200 euros. I am pleased with it and the lovely fuji glass. I'm surprised less people see it as a great deal in 2018 considering it's still a good camera, anyway if you got the chance I'd love to see you take a crack at making a video on it.
Just how sharp is the 17mm f1.8? I'm a bit interested in it as a pocketable companion camera for a Ricoh GR III, but only if the image quality and lens sharpness are close enough to hold their own.
@Mattias Burlng Do you think it worth to buy 17mm for around $200 now? It was original price at B&H. I only have a kit zoom (9-27) right now. I bought this kit (camera + lens) for $200 total brand new few years ago.
Thank you so much for sharing! Nice video creation! Super informative camera test and demonstration video production congratulations too! Good day! 👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️ 👍
Mattias, why do you say the Pentax Q or NX Mini are that much better than a 1 inch-type compacts (RX100, LX10, GX7, etc.). Are you talking about image quality? Or the handling and control?
Mattias the 9mm lens is an f/3.5 compared to f/1.8 at the RX100 III. Even the 18/1.8 should not be that far off what the RX100 gives in terms of aperture. ...and the RX100 has a ZOOM lens! I get it that image quality may be incrementaly better than the Sony, and this is kind of an one off homemade Samsung sensor from what I understand so really impressive. But the claims against the Sony maybe a bit carried away I think. It would be interesting to add to your video at what price one can find the NX mini.
paouvous zoom is a negative in my book. I can't stand them :) The price is what ever you find since its discontinued. I found several with lenses for $80.

Ah man. All of your videos make me want to buy whatever camera it is you're reviewing. Can you please do a review on the worst camera you've ever used, and I'll see if I still want to buy it. No doubt you'll take amazing pictures with it, even still. Perkele!
Niko Holm I have a floppy disc Mavica I could take for a spin.
Mattias Burling oh yeah!
I dont know about NX mini kicking butt of RX100 series... But I was very happy user of NX lineup and I would be still using it until this day if only Samsung did not abandon it. I would personally vote it the most underrated system of all times.
I love your cheap camera reviews. I also a fan of special camera systems like the foveon systems. Thanks for your reviews. ;)
Great video.... Is it still a good idea to buy a Samsung NX Mini since Samsung drop the digital camera business and making Phone only?
This reminds me of the Nikon 1 series. That Nikon 1 system gets bad reviews on the internet, but I question if those people actually used the Nikon 1 as it’s a great camera (the best auto focus I’ve ever used, great meter, fast).
I totally agree
Looking at the tiny thumbnail of the video notification on my phone, made me think you are reviewing a turntable for a sec :)
beadierps14 That would have been sweet. To bad I know squat about such things :)
I loved this camera. Sadly I broke mine trying to fix it. It was small and handy. If only my nikon 1 j4 was as compact and had the same wifi system.
drew604uk bummer about your camera. Luckily the prices can only go down :)
The 9mm is my favourite lens for the nx mini.
Did you ever try c mount lenses. I might have a chance to get one for real cheap.
Already seeing a price hike on ebay regarding Samsung NX mini... :) Another great review, thanks a lot!
Arpad Ambrus maybe I should unload mine ;)
Just kidding, will keep it while I wait for photokina.
LOL, that comment just made my day (beyond your video, obviously - hopefully, will not have nightmares about tortured iPhones and digicams tonight. :) ). Did not even think about your hidden agenda with this one, but it makes perfect sense. :)
2:10 How did this picture with the man and the sphere turned out? Looks interesting
Vintage Pictures no idea, dont know the guy :)
Hi Mattias, I know that the 17mm 1.8 lens is bad ass. But does the 9mm still beat cell phones? And is this camera pocketable when the 17mm lens is attached? Great videos! Thank you!
This looks exactly what I needed
Awesome channel and also on instagram, always something interesting!
Muwex Tech Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it :)
Thanks for review! Which one is better in your opinion, this or the Panasonic CM1?
Iad Tawil as cameras they are pretty equal.
Nice Video,i use a Samsung nx500 with the Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Pancoloar 50mm f1.8 m42 lens.I get very nice Pictures with it
Hey great video I have just got my hands on one , where can I find a D mount adapter please ? Have you tried any c mount lenses on the nx mini ? Thanks
Is it good until now?
I recently got a fuji x-pro 1 for what I saw as reasonable, only 200 euros. I am pleased with it and the lovely fuji glass. I'm surprised less people see it as a great deal in 2018 considering it's still a good camera, anyway if you got the chance I'd love to see you take a crack at making a video on it.
Just how sharp is the 17mm f1.8? I'm a bit interested in it as a pocketable companion camera for a Ricoh GR III, but only if the image quality and lens sharpness are close enough to hold their own.
Du e Kung! Älskar dina videos. Fortsätt med det du gör
Douglas Edström kul att du tycker det :)
"You are the king, i love your videos?" 😁
I dont speak swedish/danish/norwegian (sorry for implying it's all the same to me), only german :)
correct! and "keep up what you are doing"
Douglas Edström good advice. I love his videos, too
How do you find all these cameras...
DREAM清醒夢LUCID I browse around when Im bored :)
@Mattias Burlng Do you think it worth to buy 17mm for around $200 now? It was original price at B&H. I only have a kit zoom (9-27) right now. I bought this kit (camera + lens) for $200 total brand new few years ago.
Yuri G Its a fun lens. But it should be possible to find it cheaper.
I was not able to find it cheaper so far. Maybe I was not looking good enough? What do you think would be a good price for this lens?
Nx mini vs pentax Qs1?
What do you think guys?
Or any another tiny alternative?
Thank you so much for sharing! Nice video creation! Super informative camera test and demonstration video production
congratulations too! Good day!
👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️
👍
Is it possible live broadcasting with nx mini?
little mistake at 3:05, the BSI sensor is 20 Mpixel, not 24 as said.
jngosselin oh well.. thanks for pointing it out :)
did you use any filter on those pictures you showed ? please answer
Ok now I want one!
Mattias, why do you say the Pentax Q or NX Mini are that much better than a 1 inch-type compacts (RX100, LX10, GX7, etc.). Are you talking about image quality? Or the handling and control?
+M H Its a couple of things but interchangeable lenses without loosing the compactness is the biggest reason.
Understood and thank you for the reply. You may want to try the Nikon 1 as well, it is supposedly quite impressive for the size.
The nx-300 was a nice camera loads of features.
Hey
How did you avoid the no lens menssage when you don't use a electronic lens?!?!
+Efrain Lopez never saw such a message.
Just purchased one for £60 perfect working order
I love all your image....the colour....
Did the NX Mini 4k ever actually get released? I read it did in small quantities but Ive never seen any for sale anywhere...
Never heard of it.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter www.google.com/amp/s/www.stuff.tv/news/samsung-nx-mini-2-packs-4k-tiny-mirrorless-frame%3f_format=amp
I can't stand them :)
The price is what ever you find since its discontinued. I found several with lenses for $80.
FINLAND!!! whoop whoop!!!
Albert Northman For sure!
SUOMI PERKELE!
No vittu stadihan se siinä!!
Great vid mate ... can u do a comparison video between these type of cameras and cell phone camera ?
Last Man Standing There really is no competition. Outside the CM1 smartphones are so far behind in just about everything.
ayye ...understandable mate
Wait, I didn't even know Samsung made a 1" sensor ILC. Like a Nikon 1, but slimmer.
Is it good for vlogging?
Var finns husen 0:54 in i klippet? Snygga bilder också.
Alf Sallander Västerås.
This camera reminds me of the Nikon J1, a similar commercial flop with a small sensor.
Did It have a external mic port?
They had great innovation to bad they stopped making cameras
Hi, i want to ask, how to use flash while im recording on nx mini mirrorless cam?
Don’t think I’ve ever heard of a camera with a built in light for video.
Hey I'm from India
I need one camera so Samsung nx mini is good or not
How abt low light performance???
