Good video, very helpful. The bacteria bloom had me scratching my head when I started my first tank lol. Later on when the water starts going green my green killing machine worked wonders!
Good teaching... There is one correction if I may ad. Beneficial bacteria does NOT live in the water. I do 80% water change to maintain a crystal clear water. Beneficial bacteria lives in our substrates and decor 🤙 beneficial bacteria dies if you don't 1) dechlorinate water 2) let your decor dry off
and another reason that l just went through on an established tank was the plastic flower pot that had no more plants in but still had the fertilizer enriched material in it . . took me several days and several water changes till i evetually stumbled across the problem . but not even 12 hrs after removing the pot my water is almost 100% free of the bacterial bloom and is very much back on track to being crystal clear
In this video we take a look at why cloudy water appears in a fish tank and how to fix this issue. There are four main reasons why a fish tank will get cloudy and they are all easy to solve. This is a re-upload, sorry if you have already seen it but there was an issue with the original video.
Thank you for the great video. I have a well established tank which is over filtered. The water is always clear except for after I do a water change it stays cloudy for at least a day then clears up. Any thoughts on why this might happen?
You're welcome. Possibly high ammonia or phosphate in your tap water causing a bacteria bloom this can also happen if you don't use decolonisation liquid
@@EverydayAquarist Its worth checking, I will have to test my water, its only happened the last month ish. I also added about 20 pot scrubbers to my canister hoping to increase the biological filtration, maybe its not working so well..
I got a new 5 gallon aquarium for Christmas and bought some decor today. I also bought some wood. I set it up today but it already went hazy. And when I shine my phone flashlight through the water, the reflection of the light off of the opposite wall looks like a light tea. Is the wood still dirty and needs boiling or is it just the bacteria?
I have a 5 gallon with a really good filtration system, thriving live plants, a couple glofish and cool mystery snail and I have done LITERALLY everything to clear this tank. The cloudiness will not go away and any slight improvement is destroyed by the next day. It’s so unbelievably cloudy and no matter what trick I see I cannot get it to clear. Why won’t it clear and what am I to do?
I set up a new 30l tank today, using ADA plata sand only with Seiyru stones, then add ada water clearer and gosh, there was this instant cloud of plums and got so bad, 4x water changes and they are still in it...
I just put in new rocks for my fish when I changed the water and my goldfish are getting cloudy eyes and seem to not be well. I’m not sure if I need to change the water again or not. I don’t want to loose them.
I cannot stop my son to overfeed the fish in cycle. I dose our tank with prime and stability daily. We having cloudy water, do I need just to do nothing and pray for good bacteria to grow faster?
So I set up a new tank and waited about 48 hours before testing it and everything read as though it’s safe to inhabit fish but now after getting my fish I’m starting to notice the bacteria bloom happen about 4 days later is it still safe to keep my fish in there?
You will just have to monitor ammonia, add some bacteria starter and maybe ammonia remover. Really other than taking the fish back you will just try and keep the fish alive until the tank matures
Wow, a fish died today n i did a 70 percent water change...did not know I did the right thing lol i just did it because i figured it died due to over feeding, so i vacuumed the gravel as well.
I believe you shocked the fish with different temperatured water. I do 80% but maintain the water that goes in the same temperature as it was 78° to 80° F for my tank
@@califreedume the water that went in was the same temperature as the water in the tank. I think the fish died because they were sick from the pet store.
@@califreedume i had an angel fisj from that store die after two days as well. Come to find out when i brought him, he was injured. He was separated from the other angles. They told me they did it because he wouldn't sell. I brought him to do a good thing. 2 days later, he died, n my blood parrots was distraught lol till the point where they was trying to prop him upright n make him swim again. I was like awwwww lol
Do not add bacteria in active tank i repeat do not ………….or do not let happen bacteria bloom in your active tank It will cause oxyegn deprivation and it is far worse than nitrite nitrate problem. Just lost all my fish because of this.

beneficial bacteria dies if you don't
1) dechlorinate water
2) let your decor dry off
This clears up a lot, since when I set up my aquarium it was cloudy for a while. It eventually cleared up but I always wondered what happened 🥰
Glad I could help
Hi, even though you dont have a filter? Because i only have sponge filtet and air pump.
Wow, this is great info for beginner like me. I'm going through it right now. Hope we tide through this.
Am very new to the hobby 2 months in and I find this video so helpful thanks for your world of knowledge.
Very good...informative. Thank you
cleared mine in 3 days
Another great video..
Good info
Well explained.

Tea colour is tannin from wood and isn't bad for an aquarium. Add some activated carbon to your filter amd it should clear up
never add this problem longer than 3 days my filters always clean the tank to crystal clear .if not i use a very fine filter media to polish the water
This was very informative and super helpful!! Thanks for sharing!

thanks very helpful :)
Great video .... don’t pour the whole pot in hahahaha big problem for sure....less is always better the fish won’t starve 😀😀🤘👍

I think my canister suck in some fish food and is rotting inside (eheim 350), do I need to clean it or let the good bacteria to fight it?

Oh dear
Hi there, brand new tank, a little cloudy, been 24hrs, is it safe to add fish and let tank slowly clear up?
Wait a few weeks

I never fed my tank or had fish in there but my tank has only been running for 2 or 3 days. Its insanely cloudy and getting worse...please help!???
Thats good beneficial bacteria
If you used quickstart that started it or if you used someomes filter media
So I set up a new tank and waited about 48 hours before testing it and everything read as though it’s safe to inhabit fish but now after getting my fish I’m starting to notice the bacteria bloom happen about 4 days later is it still safe to keep my fish in there?
And is a 25% water change a good idea? Because I have to treat him for a fungal infection too and that’s what the bottle says to do after 7 days
48 hrs is not long enough for the tank to cycle. Normally I recommend 14 days before adding fish
