    If you’re in the market for a high-quality yet affordable EV, which should you go for - the Polestar 2, or the Tesla Model 3? Well, we’re here to help you choose!
    Starting with the Tesla Model 3, it’s one of the most recognisable EVs on our roads today. This entry-level Standard Range Plus edition is powered by a single motor that drives the rear wheels to deliver 296hp & 376Nm of torque. It has a claimed range of 278 miles and costs around £42,000.
    Now the Polestar 2 may be a much rarer find on our roads, but we think it can easily match up to the Tesla! As for the single motor edition, there are two versions available, with the range-topper coming equipped with a 75kWh battery that can put down 231hp & 330Nm of torque. Its starting price is around £40,000.
    So, which do you think will come out on top? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out for yourself!

    Really looking forward to when EVs (or other cars with alternate-fuels) become more mainstream! They're still pretty pricey now imo. My old Nokia back in the day was about $800 brand new, 2mp camera and keypad included! But now that smartphones are mainstream, I can get so many good features for $800 and even less! Hopefully these cars reach that stage eventually, would love to have one as a little runabout for town!

Cause they are more experienced with electric cars and the charging stations hear in the States, Tesla charging stations are all over the Northeast where we live way ahead of the other stations , although I just heard that Elon’s going to let other brands use the charging stations in the future if not already.

      Yeah they have a pilot program in the Netherlands for allowing non-Teslas to supercharge, but from what they said, it's pretty clear that the charging will be much more expensive, and possibly not available in high-use areas, so I wouldn't 100% bank on supercharging for non-Teslas too much.

    Ive had my Polestar since July 2021 and i still love to drive it. Its the first car ive really enjoyed driving having been more into sports bikes owning Ducati and Honda Fireblade machines. Early cold starts are a pleasure in the Polestar knowing ive preset the interior to be 22 degrees when i get in the car. OTA's keep things fresh with the latest including battery preconditioning when navigating to a rapid charging station through the built in Google maps - any rapid charging station for that matter! This makes a huge difference as charging speeds tended to build up slowly but not now as I'm seeing 150kw almost from the moment i plug the car in.

      Indeed, it's like people who try to compare the mach e to tesla model y. The mach e awd er has over 20kwhs more useable battery capacity yet gets a similar range as the model y lr.
      Yet somehow people try to claim it's somehow better. Its like yeah no it is not, something with over 20%more battery which gets close to the same range. Is not in any way similar.
      Kinda like lucid fans crowing about the range of a car which has over 18% more battery capacity than the tesla model s lr.
      Ok lucid great job seriously, but boil it down and the lucid is about 5% more efficient.
      Less if tesla only has a useable capacity of around 94kwhs out of the 100kwh packs vs lucids 118kwh pack.
      Then they claim lucid makes the most efficient ev on sale. Uh no per the epa website the most efficient ev available right now is the model 3 at 142mpge, the most efficient lucid is rated for 131mpge. And there are others outside tesla which have higher than 131mpge ratings. 😀

    The most important feature of the Polestar 2 over the Model 3 - the Polestar 2 is a hatchback and therefor a lot more practical than the Model 3. The Model Y is more expensive than the Model 3 so this makes the Polestar 2 a winner for some people. It is also more exclusive than the Model 3 which are quite common - even here in the UK. Model Y is now available to order in the UK but starts at £55k for the dual motor version or you can pay more for the performance version. No cheaper Model Ys are on offer just yet in the UK.

    Chose between Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3. First drove the Tesla and was impressed. Then 2 hours later I was in the Polestar 2 and it blew me away. I fell instantly in love withe the Polestar. It simply looks stunning, very high quality and super nice little details. We went for the Polestar 2 Dual Motor with Performance Upgrade. One big point is also that the Polestar 2 can pull significantly more than the Tesla. 1.5 T vs. 550 kg.

    • @chrishyde1216
      @chrishyde1216 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a camper, that is significant, except I'd understood that the M3 could tow 1000kg. Is it just the dual motor that can tow 1000kg and the single motor is lower?

    • @kimiisland9802
      @kimiisland9802 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrishyde1216 Yes, the Dual motor can tow 1.500kg. The single motor only 800 or something like that. Just around what the Tesla Model 3 can tow.
      And I can tell you: I have the car since 8 months now and I still love it so much. The acceleration is amazing, it drives amazing, everything is working well, no problems so far and with a full battery you really get easily over 400km, with staying between 80-20%.
      I noticed 2 things that I wish that they were different though.
      1. The trunk door (tailgate): It doesnt have sensors and its huge. You cant open the trunk in any parking garage without being constantly afraid that it doesnt stop in time when you push the stop button. Its super annoying. I got already a scratch because it didnt stop and crashed in the wall. Also the foot sensor for the tailgate is not working that easily. You need to stand in a perfect position, know where the sensor is and what movement you need to perform that it actually reacts. When you carry something, this is just ridicilous and embarressing when you hop around on one leg and try to find the sensor.
      2. The Auto Pilot System: it is overall really good, nothing too special, but it works perfectly and you feel very save when using it. The car notices immediatly when someone tends to cross your lane and reacts much faster than any human could do. So this can save a life. It never brakes when it is not neccessary, it is really perfectly set up. BUT, what I really dislike is that the automatic steering suddenly stops at 140 km/h with minimal warning or notification. When you set cruise speed for example on 160 km/h, and you stuck behind another car and only do 130 km/h, the car automatically holds the lane. When the car in front of you is away, the car automatically accelerates to 160 km/h until there is another slower car in front of you. But when you hit 140km/h the auto steering/lane holding function gets automatially deactivated. I do understand the reason, but there is no real notification about that which can be very dangerous, since you are expecting the car to still hold the lane. It only shakes the steering wheel a tiny bit, but not more than it does when you hit or cross the border of the line. So when you are not watching your speed and look at the screen, you might not notice that you actually have to steer by yourself. You should at least have an option to get a acustic noise when the auto steering function gets deactivated.
      But I would definitly but that car again and I can only recommend it. I am super happy we bought the Polestar instead of the Tesla. We also looked at the Model Y, but its more expensive and doesnt look that great. Also the quality is not on the level of Polestar.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Tesla drivers charging away from the supercharger network even when there is a supercharger nearby, and it’s all down to cost. If there’s a FOC/cheaper charger nearby people will use it. This means that the supercharger network has lots of spare capacity for others (who are less concerned about cost) to use.

    A decent stats comparison Matt but what you did was fail to acknowledge that many of us actually spend our travelling time not in the driver's seat and not hussling along but stuck in the slow grind of everyday British gridlocked traffic.
    The rear cabin space and comfort of the Polestar looks preferable to me as that's the place where I will spend most of my car journey time. I don't need more than 200 miles of range because my bladder will want a break sooner than 3 hours at non-stop motorway cruising. I do value the hatchback versatility and I definitely do not need a panoramic roof or not-quite autonomous driving. I also do not need to accelerate from standing to 60 in 5.2 seconds. As it stands, that's almost never realistically legally or actually possible on Britain's congested roads anyway.
    I would like usb sockets in the rear (did either have these) and having more space for my legs to sit in a more relaxed and fully supported position would be very much appreciated. The footwell cutouts on the Polestar seem to accommodate me better here.
    Overall then: I prefer the ergonomics and practicality of the Polestar 2.

    Nice review. Fair and balanced. Probably wouldn't agree though that the standard range plus is the pick of the Tesla litter. That would definitely be the performance model 3

      Just playing Devil's advocate, but £20k for slightly bigger wheels and 2 seconds quicker acceleration?

    • @ElusiveTy
      @ElusiveTy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheTrueWelshIdiot In addition to the wheels and acceleration, it gets lowered suspension, performance brakes and a carbon fibre rear spoiler. It also comes with a track mode with improved cooling, regen braking, torque vectoring, and relaxed stability control. (Only trim level that has it). On top, it obviously comes with an extra 84 KMs (52 miles) of range (EPA).

    I love the traditional car styling of the Polestar.
    I love the performance output of the tesla, but absolutely HATE the fact it doesn't have a cluster mounted in front of the driver and relies on the centre tablet for all of the info.
    Also, that I could find in my research yesterday, the Tesla superchargers in Australia are limited to 120kW.
    Whereas other charges are able to charge at higher rates(when the vehicle is capable of this).

      the missing cluster was a bummer for me at first, too. After test driving I noticed its absolutly no problem. Going to get my 2nd Tesla delivered next week now I can tell you its something I dont even think about now. You get used to it pretty fast without any drawbacks

      I live in an apartment in a city center. I can't charge my Model Y LR at home, but there are countless (often free) charging options at shopping malls, supermarkets, etc (if you can't charge at work). It's really not a problem at all.
