    As a kid I can remember when was kid, begging my parents to let me have my birthday party in a Chuck E. Cheese, later at that party my grandparents gave me Yar’s Revenge as a present. I also grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and offered when to Lagoon Amusement Park which had a game center with all kinds of pin ball games. Bushnell.worked at Lagoon, founded Atari, and was involved with Chuck E. Cheese, crazy how one man could effect my childhood so much. Also Ron, this Video Games and Pin Ball machines that you restore and repair, really where the best part of my childhood, thanks you for doing your best to keeping thoughts machines working and my memories alive.

    I don't remember ever seeing this game in the wild. The song it plays is the same tune that Stern's Armored Car plays at the end of the game. It took me a while to figure out what other game I had heard that theme in! I bet there are only a few original specimens of this machine left. I would be surprised if there were a dozen! I can see why operators would have kitted the cabinet back in the day. The pool game would be kind of cool in a bar but probably wouldn't be guzzling quarters in an arcade. Nonetheless, what a cool piece of history. I would put it in my arcade next to my Capcom Bowling with Risque graphics! Thanks for sharing it Ron, and you are most welcome for my t-shirt modeling at the beach!

      It kind of makes sense to make the game, but ultimately compared to the flash of other games already out by 1985 I can see where it wouldn't make much depending on the location I guess....

      You know what the song is right? If you don't it's Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin

    I bought a Bally sente around 1994 and was able to acquire almost all of the games for it. ( I had 8 of them, marquee, control panel and cartridge) I ended up selling it to a guy the runs a a barcade in NYC. He put it out for folks to play there.
    The SAC 1 and SAC 2 were the base setup and cabinet. Wish I could upload a photo to a comment I would show you the stack of control panels

    I played a Pac-Man cocktail arcade game table with my uncle once. It had many games on it and was a bunch of fun. Sadly, the place where it was at burnt down a few years back and the restaurant is no longer around. RIP Joe Mamma’s Pizza, Tulsa.

    I loved Sente’s Off the Wall. It’s a very unique tennis game. It’s a 2d side view, but you have a spinner that controls the paddle so you can spin it around. Crazy game and I’d love to try it on real hardware one day. Maybe not even that but at least with the real controls.

    You're absolutely correct that rareness of a game doesn't always translate to lots of money for the said game in the arcade game industry. In console gaming a super rare game would almost be guaranteed to bring in far too much money. How that one escaped kitting is a great mystery! After watching you play it I can see why most were kitted. If I owned it I'd be pulling it all out and converting it to something else! I know. Blasphemy!

      It played its sound track even in attract mode. A bass-heavy and somewhat catchy tune. It bled through my memories and is also now associated with that other game.
      Play-wise, you had to be good at both shooting and steering. Had to avoid mines and catch crystals with that front fork thing as you were harassed by other alien baddies. I was never any good.

    This reminds me of my childhood in the UK when there was a weekly snooker television program on the BBC called 'POT BLACK' that used the same theme music as this game (Black and White Rag). What came first?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one came out in 1985 I would imagine if Pot Black was using it, it was probably before then and may have been a song that was associated with billiards for some reason way back farther than that! It's one of those things that everybody's too young to remember I'll bet, like for instance 'Mack the Knife" the song was apparently about a play, that was old by the time the song was written so now when people hear that old song they have no idea what the hell he's talking about :)

    Intersting but cool find and backstory, thanks!!
    Ever see the TV show "Gimme a Break!"? Nell Carter is hilarious in it! This game should have her doing a voice over and insulting the player while playing. If voice digitization costs were still that high and needed precious rom space to hold, it may not have been feasible... wasn't Paperboy from 1985 and it had stored, discernable digitized voices?

    A shot line wouldn't help, the direction the ball shoots is controlled by the direction fo the trackball.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started getting the hang of it a little bit by the time I finished, the camera cut off but I made it to another level you basically instead of using a line try to aim with the little dots around the trackball on the control panel....

    • @neilh2669
      @neilh2669 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, the game owner must bake scones and prepare tea!
      In this case, English is fine control of the cue ball movement. IRL, you can add top spin, back spin, left/right spin, etc. by the place you hit the cue ball with the cue stick and the stick movement.
