Good stuff Joe and Ron. Played many of the baseball machines in the 60s. Always took a pitch to see if the ball would bounce off the bat and hit the right side of the cabinet and come to a stop on the bat. Easy to hit singles ad hominem.
Had 65 runs to beat the high score at The Pike in Long Beach, CA. There was a prize of a small plastic batting helmet facsimile. When I brought my score to the attention of the attendant he said, “go away son, you brother me!”. Don’t mess with the carnies was a lesson that I learned. I had many machines powered off as I was playing because they couldn’t make money off of me.

Hey Ron, first time poster, I was flabbergasted when you found that reduction gear! Also you will just kick yourself if you finish the game and dont repair that slow ball function. These EM Baseball games were before my time, I came into pinball around 1975, I remember playing the wedge heads not even realizing 50 years later I would be watching them getting brought back to life. Cant wait to see final product.Love what you do, keep it up

Nice work on that pitching unit. It is going to be fun watching the series of videos working on this great game. This game brings back a lot of great memories for me, as there was a neighborhood short order diner that had two of these machines in their dining room when I was growing up in the 60's. Played the Hell out of them! The diner was in business from 1963 until 1975. I was going to buy one of the games when they closed for good, but the son of the late owner had sold both of them about a hour before I called. What a bummer!

Cool pitch an bat and fun video. That missing slow ball bracket looks like a fabrication starting with a 3/4" strip of galvanized steel from the orange depot. It's likely you have coils and links on hand to complete it. You can use the screw mounting hole distance to scale the rest of the dimensions for the new bracket. Because, like you said, the pitch variation makes the game.

It's helpful to keep a notebook on-hand for new repairs or fuzzy memories. I work in aviation and when I do a new repair or overhaul I will take notes and pictures of how things go together, methods I used to make new skins or repair certain issues, part numbers, etc. It's been an absolute lifesaver and a blank notebook turned into my bible after about a year of using it. Same applies to pretty much anything really.
Just have to not be so stubborn as to not use it which I struggle with a lot.
