Tomas Sankara was one of a kind. A true African hero. Burkina Faso lost a great man. And Africa lost a great, young, bright, visionary and incorruptible leader and revolutionary. A huge part of Africa died on the day that Sankara was betrayed and murdered by Blaise, with help from his French masters. Sankara's blood will forever be cast upon Burkina Faso. Have you done enough research and seen his achievements? How he contributed (together with Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah and Ethiopia's Haile Selassie ) in forming the African Union (then called OAU) in 1963. How he made Tanzania headquarters (alongside Algeria and Ghana) for other Africans still struggling for independence. How many former freedom fighters and refugees may testify to this including some of the present African leaders in Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa and so on. Even some of US Black Panthers settled in Tanzania and Ghana as a result. How he boldly led Tanzania to recognize Biafra (during Nigeria's civil war and genocide of 1967-70). How Dr Nyerere, single-handedly led Tanzania to topple Idi Amin of Uganda, a military killer who butchered at least a quarter of a million Ugandans 1971-79. How Mwalimu tried to steer Tanzania towards self reliance through Ujamaa (family) policies. Have you heard of Ujamaa? Some of its tenets are what the bold and courageous Thomas Sankara was trying to implement in Burkina Faso. Free education, health and opportunities. As a result of his principled stand and ideas, Tanzania remains one of the most (if not the most) peaceful nations in Africa. We haven't seen civilian war, (comparatively speaking to the rest of the continent) since the Maji Maji rebellion of 1905-1907...(when Germans ruled Tanganyika). Tanzanians have one language. Kiswahili a unifying non tribalistic language. Thanks to Mwalimu (teacher), Nyerere. Do more digging my dear and do justice to some of our departed ancestors. Meantime, keep up your excellent work. The death of Thomas Sankara re-vibrated around the world. I remembered vividly as a little boy traveling to Lagos for the first time and hearing the news. As long as Africans are not loyal to one another, this is what you get time and again. Thomas Sankara was told of his friend's plot to assassinate him but he did not believe it. Good people see no evil and hear no evil. RIP Sankara, you've done your best and history will judge all.

Late Tunde Idiagbon the then deputy head of state under the military administration of Buhari introduced and formulated so many policies that was reviving Nigeria from her shallow economic pit but Babangida who was also part of the government then for cell took over the power tru coup and brought corruptions, political assassination, bad governance and many evil to Nigeria and there we are till today. I'm a new subscriber in the US, and honestly, I know very, very little of African history--am trying to start to learn now. But this man was a wonder. That he was not corrupt, at least at first, did so much to encourage the people to be self-sufficient. Of course, it is sad that his gov't also had torture and human rights violations, harassment after the teacher strike, considering the other very good things--the medical improvements/innoculations, food sufficiency, elimination of corrupt govt officials. In my birth country, we also had a revolution and Marxists took over, but they became oppressors, tyrants, instead of liberators, and the country plunged into poverty and human rights violated consistently. It is always sad when someone who starts off doing good devolves into less good, but it's also sad when colonizers can't just STOP meddling. Let nations self-rule. Thank you, Adeola, for some history here. And it gives hope. IF a country can start turning things around in four years, it gives hope.

How Mwalimu tried to steer Tanzania towards self reliance through Ujamaa (family) policies. Have you heard of Ujamaa? Some of its tenets are what the bold and courageous Thomas Sankara was trying to implement in Burkina Faso. Free education, health and opportunities. Even though Ujamaa failed (1967-85) Nyerere was the most original of the African leaders. Before anyone starts he was not even a Marxist. He resigned and did not have millions of cash stashed in foreign banks like some of his thieving colleagues. As a result of his principled stand and ideas, Tanzania remains one of the most (if not the most) peaceful nations in Africa. We haven't seen civilian war, (comparatively speaking to the rest of the continent) since the Maji Maji rebellion of 1905-1907...(when Germans ruled Tanganyika). Tanzanians have one language. Kiswahili a unifying non tribalistic language. Thanks to Mwalimu (teacher), Nyerere.

The death of Thomas Sankara re-vibrated around the world. I remembered vividly as a little boy traveling to Lagos for the first time and hearing the news. As long as Africans are not loyal to one another, this is what you get time and again. Thomas Sankara was told of his friend's plot to assassinate him but he did not believe it. Good people see no evil and hear no evil. RIP Sankara, you've done your best and history will judge all.

The same scenario always happens in Nigeria as well. Late Tunde Idiagbon the then deputy head of state under the military administration of Buhari introduced and formulated so many policies that was reviving Nigeria from her shallow economic pit but Babangida who was also part of the government then for cell took over the power tru coup and brought corruptions, political assassination, bad governance and many evil to Nigeria and there we are till today. I think all Africa youth most come together because we needs mass revolutionary movement to kick out these bastards of Africa and let Africa be.

I'm a new subscriber in the US, and honestly, I know very, very little of African history--am trying to start to learn now. But this man was a wonder. That he was not corrupt, at least at first, did so much to encourage the people to be self-sufficient. Of course, it is sad that his gov't also had torture and human rights violations, harassment after the teacher strike, considering the other very good things--the medical improvements/innoculations, food sufficiency, elimination of corrupt govt officials. In my birth country, we also had a revolution and Marxists took over, but they became oppressors, tyrants, instead of liberators, and the country plunged into poverty and human rights violated consistently. It is always sad when someone who starts off doing good devolves into less good, but it's also sad when colonizers can't just STOP meddling. Let nations self-rule. Thank you, Adeola, for some history here. And it gives hope. IF a country can start turning things around in four years, it gives hope.
