- Shawl knitting is one of my favorite things! Shawls are easy to knit, don't require you to worry too much about sizing and are super stylish and functional. In this video, I share all of the shawls I've knit. These shawl knitting patterns are gorgeous and I hope you find a little inspiration for future projects 💚

I've done a few and I got a little bored with them and almost never wear them. This taught me I'm a process knitter, not a project knitter, because I don't know what to do with half my FOs. 🤣

Oohh..now i'm inspired to start a new shawl project. I want to recomend papillon shawl, it is so pretty and easy to make. I made it with urth merino yarn a solid color and a shifting so happy with the result

I have done two of the Nightshift shawl, very fun one to do. I used my own homespun making it even more special. Andrea Mowery patterns are fun.
im currently knitting the shawlogrphy from stephen west for the second time. My first time knitting it, it was super loud and colorful, this time i am knitting it entirely in blacks and greys from holst garn and it is coming out to be a beautiful classy wearable piece compared to the loudness of my previous one

Love all of your shawls, but I especially love the Range shawl. It looks beautiful in all of those neutral colors. I can do Brioche in the round more easily than flat knitted Brioche, but I really like Andrea’s patterns and so you have inspired me to knit one of her Brioche patterns.

My favorite is the Easy by Martina Behm. More of a shawlette and calls for just 1 ball of fingering. I’ve made several!
My favourite shawl I have ever knit is the satellite shawl! It’s probably my most worn knit I’ve ever made ❤️
All your shawls are beautiful; I love your color choices. I'm working on the Russell Street shawl by Megan Doherty, another good "use up minis" project. I must say, too, that I love the room in your house/apartment! It looks so warm, peaceful and comfortable. I am fairly new to your podcast and really enjoy your personable presentation. And thanks for many helpful knitting tips!
I love how you didn’t “beat around the bush”… you just got right into it. Thank you for holding them each out open but also wearing them so we can see how they flow in both forms.

I love all your choices and how you explained certain ones kept your interest. I have always loved shawls as I find them old fashioned but have only made the grain shawl by tin can knits. But I would like to do more as it gets cold here I. The winter. We have an old farm house and I’m about to have my third child so I need something sensible but would also like to feel pretty lol if that makes sense

All of them spoke but I would prob put them in this order. Nightshift, Satellite, Range, Field and Fade. The first two will be on my must do list now.

I’m also a fan of the Papillon Butterfly shawl from MarinJa knits. With the many short rows It looks complicated, does indeed require a LOT of counting & stitch markers but it actually works up quite quickly. I’ve done two, one in a yarn specified in the pattern ( Urth Uneek & Harvest) and one in Noro Silk Garden Sock & Solo. I get admiring comments every time I wear them!
I’ve not done much shawl knitting yet so this is a wonderful list of suggestions. I’ve done Shawlography by Stephen West as my first and only so far. The swatch for Slipstravaganza is done so I’m ready to cast that one on!
It was fun to see all your shawls and especially see you wearing them. I am still slowly knitting my first shawl. It is the shawlography from Stephen West. I appreciate it when you mention the less expensive yarns you use. I love hand dyed and luxury yarns but they are a rare splurge so it is great to see that the less pricey yarns can be knit into really beautiful items.
Hi,,my hat is off to you!! Doing a West knit as your first shawl is quite an accomplishment..I can't afford all that pricey yarn either, and I get alot from hobby lobby and joanns. 👍😊

Exploration Station by Stephen West is one of my favorites, I’ve knit is three times. It was also the first brioche I ever knit and led me to knit the Rokoko shawl Julia Maria Hegenbart which is another favorite.

I love all your shawls and your colour choices are excellent. Thank you for the suggestions on different yarns that work for the designs and the budget. My first ventures into shawls have been 1 skein wonders like Joji Locatelli’s Hipster Light, but I don’t find them very wearable, so I am moving to larger shawls. Thanks,
I just made Shawlography by Stephen West, but find it too “”much”, despite choosing a conservative palette, so plan to rip it out. I am making the Painting Waves cowl by Stephen West. It is really big and squishy and fun to knit. I am planning to do Joji Locatelli’s shawl she put out in the fall- it is stunning. I think I want to knit all your shawls- busy times ahead for me. Lol! I have knit several versions of Martina Behm's Viajante shawl/poncho. She made hers in very lightweight yarn but I did mine in sock yarn! It is by far my favourite shawl and poncho and super easy to knit! Martina does not like purling, so all her patterns are garter or stockinette.
My favorite shawl is Leaves in a Stream by Romi Hill. I liked it so much I made two: one in superwash finger weight yarns and other in two Kauni yarns. Staples in my wardrobe.

Ooh! Love all of those, I just downloaded the Field shawl and want to make it next (currently working on making my first ever sock 🧦 😬and also the sockhead slouch hat, and trying to get used to fingering weight yarn.

the Field shawl is super easy, and completely adaptable to any weight of yarn. I've used the pattern as scarves too, the i-cord edging is so tidy and hides the loose ends
Your shawls are gorgeous. I know you said your preference is asymmetrical triangle shawls but if you ever think about a crescent shaped one, I have knit the 'Everyones shawl' by Petra Breakstone and I love it. No brioche but different textures throughout which give it interest 😊
I love mosaic knitting, so the 'Pansy' shawl by Jinny Park is great. Such a cool pattern from such a simple technique!
Not to mention, it's free!
I love your podcast. I appreciate your input on using more budget friendly yarns. One of the first shawls I made was the Nightshift , but I made it with Spincycle (ouch!) and to tell you the truth,I didn't care for the length (too short) . I made it again with leftover stash yarn , but still too short. I then got on a Stephen West kick and have made Vertices Unite and his more recent MKAL, Shawlography. I have made Goldfish Memory by Casapinka and currently on Open Waters Shawl by Melanie Berg, which I am so enjoying. Love shawls!
If (when?), I make another nightshift, I might just go up a needle size... or maybe even swatch first. My first one came out smaller than it should have, but I still find that it is a great size for wearing while I have a coat on.
My most worn and favorite knit is Vertices Unite from Stephen West - I’ve knit two and love them both! Can’t wait to try the Field shawl - yours is awesome! I wanna do a hand spun version. 😍

Great video! The Range Shawl really spoke to me, hadn't come across that pattern before, so thank you. I haven't had much luck with brioche yet but one day I'll try a project that incorporates brioche:)
The Range is so awesome! It has a some brioche, but it really is as basic as brioche can get. If you use a life line before the brioche sections, I bet you’d be just fine! @andreamowry had some great brioche tutorials on her channel.

Thank you! The Cinnabar is gorgeous, but I need to work up my courage to knit THAT MUCH brioche! Haha. I've seen some brioche sweaters I want to knit too.

I'm knitting Muscadine by Andrea Mowry with "Dream in color yarn" "Smooshy" fingering weight using three different coordinating variegated colorways on size 5 circular needles. It's a very loose knit pattern once it's blocked. It's a free pattern on Andrea's website that knits up really fast and great for beginning knitters or for Knitflixing. Opus by Maxim Cyr is the next shawl.
Ive never knit a shawl. The ones I've seen always seemed as though they'd be just one more thing in my hands but the way most knitters wear them, I can see that they can stay on well. So I'm considering knitting one to keep for myself. Normally I give most things away.
They're great! Especially if they're on the larger side, it's easy to wrap them on you and they stay on securely 😊

Beautiful shalws! I especially love Nightshift, it's on my project list but I can't make excuses to knit another scarf for myself 😅 as I already have one for each season/degree. I'd like to see how the shawls look from the back side, they never show that in the pattern photos.

I haven't knit a shawl yet but I've crocheted quite a few and my favorite pattern is a virus shawl. Works up quick, looks amazing, and very flexible about yarn weight. I've made 4 and they always go fast.

My first shawl was this past years’ Shawlography by Stephen West. Definitely a challenge to knit for a first but very gratifying to finish. Caleb I’m sad you didn’t include any of his shawls !

Yes Shawlography challenged me in many ways but it definitely has allowed me to see how entertaining shawl knitting can be! I will have a peek at Andrea Mowry’s patterns . I’m working on her brioche hat right now and I love it. Oh I just finished knitting Olga jazzy’s Saku hat after my boyfriend saw your post on my Facebook. He wanted it in the same colour too. I started knitting myself a shawl from knit noble website. I can't read knitting pattern at all..I have bean knitting dishcloths mats in cotton yarn for local cafe. I have bean knitting on round loom blanket for double bed s.
