Before 2012, Jankovic used to have a very impressive head to head against Serena. In fact they were tied at 3 all in 2008. But from 2012 onwards she couldn't beat Serena. This is a testament to Serena's massive improvement between 2012-2017. People tend to make fun of Sharapova because of her lopsided record against Serena, but I felt she was just a victim of her longevity. If other 2000s top players had been around during that period, they would have suffered the same fate. Serena was very focused against top players during this period
well Jankovic was in decline after 2008 - the last 20-30 years have shown that in women's tennis, counterpunchers are plentiful but even the greatest of them only have relatively short periods of dominance (Hingis maybe had the longest period of about 3-4 years). Jankovic made the mistake of gaining muscle to compete better and fend off the big hitters - the only problem is that she ended up sacrificing her biggest weapon, her movement, which is one reason why she had an impressive head to head with Serena. So she ended up without any real weapons in the end.
Stunning performance from Serena, I still remember how well she played in the last 3 rounds against Wozniacki, Aga and Jankovic. Urgh I miss 2013, so many great memories ❤❤❤
When Serena was injured, she still had to play, because some always claimed, she’s pulling out because she’s losing. But when others were hurt, they were beyond empathetic!

Jankovic beat her in Rome right in 2010 but 2012 onwards Serena was untouchable. Maybe Jankovic could’ve beaten her in 2018-22
