    Dads 2004 Rover has been a rock solid off roader in the six years we've had it... no major issues but what it does do is what i call "the yearly check engine light". usually a couple days before he has to go through emissions

      In the west we generally avoid mudding in favor of crawling. A- drought is common enough, B- it tears up the trail and gets things closed down, C- my god, the clean up is a b!tch!

    • @donhappel9928
      @donhappel9928 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@yepitsme431 "both stock" is the key there. Who keeps their wheeler stock? The beauty of the earlier trucks is the ease of modifying. My Disco is currently on 6" of lift and 37" tires. That's not going to happen with any IFS/IRS truck. I have one of those too (LR3) but it's only lifted 2" with 33" tires and that's really pushing it

    • @yepitsme431
      @yepitsme431 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donhappel9928 there its TONS of people that leaves the vehicles "stock" at most they add tires and external accesories and thats it.. and guess what? for THOSE people a STOCK truck its more than enough for what they do !! not everyone its heavy into modifying every car they have, and people like you are the minority wheter you like it or not, and financially speaking the majority its the ones in control.. the market dictates what it wants =)

    • @donhappel9928
      @donhappel9928 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@yepitsme431 Yes there are. And there are many vehicles on the market already to cater to them. The entire rest of the Rover lineup for example. Traditionally however the Defender (especially the Defender) was targeted at those who want to personalize the vehicle to suit their needs whether that be for commercial, military, or recreational. The ability to modify for purpose is what made it work, be that an ambulance or an overlander. The new truck has moved to the opposite pole from that philosophy of 'an off-road vehicle that works on the road' to 'a road vehicle that works off-road'. There may indeed be a bigger market for the latter, but as noted Rover themselves already have it well served. In fact, you might even say it's saturated. People buy an M3 instead of a standard BMW because of it's track abilities (even if they never see the track personally). The same was true of the old Defender. Now that they've abandoned the original philosophy of the vehicle, what's to set it apart from the myriad of other luxury SUVs from Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, etc? This basic shift in philosophy is what upsets those of us who are enthusiast. And though we are a relatively small group, we are the people who own multiple Rovers; who actually use them and make them seen in the wild; who run the clubs and generally promote the brand. We've long felt abandon by the brand but held out some faint hope against hope that there was still one; one model that would retain it's heritage of go anywhere, do anything and not simple become another hi-tech, high-priced luxury SUV.
      I reserve final judgement until they are actually in the field and the aftermarket can start delivery options to 'make it your own'. And I fully understand the forces at play that make an old-school solid axle truck a difficult thing to bring to market today. However when a brand abandons its heritage and history in favor of chasing a quick buck on current fad what do they really have left?

    I know this video is like a year old, but I love this Land Rover so much! And Tommy statement about the Land Rover being 5500 verse the Cruiser being 25,000, it's also the same argument in comparing it to a newer 4Runner too. Horrible when it didn't. 4 electric windshields, 3 transmission replacements. Sold it after 4 years. There's a reason why I've purchased 4 new Land Cruisers since 1987. A new Land Cruiser is $76K while an Escalade is $64K on cars.com. While a 2009 with less than150,000 miles the LC is $26K and a Escalade is $17K. A new LX570 3-row is $92K while a 2009 is $27K.
    So the LC drops $50K and the Escalade only drops $48K. Toyota LC is not luxurious and should not have that depreciation compared to another luxury marque.the LX is more like a luxury vehicle in it's high depreciation of $65 in last decade.

      I'm okay with what they've done its just.. the back is ok the sides are good but man the front looks cheap
      they should atleast do some bumper addons just to give it character
      they are going for the "OEM" TRD look but that bumper is just a let down

    How come you guys never bring up A-TRAC when talking about the Land Cruiser's off-road features? It's arguable the best off-road feature on many 4wd Toyota's and Lexus' trucks and SUV's other than 4Runner's and Tacoma's like the 200-Series/LX 570 and GX460's.

    • @lukeconroy9800
      @lukeconroy9800 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Freedom Rider They have it all, rear locker a trac, multi terrain select, kdss is an option if you want it. They just lack the V8 and 6-Speed which is nice in the GX which is on the same frame. I was just pointing out that since the GX 460 and the Land Cruiser/LX 570 don’t offer rear locking differentials, ATRAC is a very crucial feature in off road scenarios and deserves a mention.

      Dalbergaria11 It’s always on, it just takes a few seconds to kick in when you have a tire spinning . It’s triggered by tire speed sensors that activate it when they detect slip. It’s pretty advanced for 1999-2004.
