Nice commentary on the issues with hikers. Mountains are meant for everyone, but primarily for hikers. It's not typical or safe to ride bikes on these trails. These are designated hiking paths, yet some organizers want to make money by holding races here. Cyclists are secondary in this scenario and cannot expect hikers to step aside. Riding in these races is for personal satisfaction, not for profit, so please respect the hikers who have priority on these trails.
Thanks for your input, I could have seen this one coming. Just to wrap this very briefly - races are held with allowance to do so. If it were just someone riding for fun and complaining about hikers - you would be absolutely right. In legal race conditions, be it for personal satisfactory or anything else - hikers have no priority. With that said, I can't see a single evidence of no respect shown - please correct me if I am wrong. Last but not least, I always say one thing - there are two types of people: those who have common sense, and those who don't. And thats fine :) If stepping aside on foot is harder than someone doing that on the bike - that gives a good indication.
