I absolutely love my 2006 Yamaha raptor. I modded the beast, 105.5mm piston and cylinder with a stage 3 cam, plus 3mm intake valve and plus 2mm exhaust valves, 5mm stroker crank installed, Hinson clutch basket, plus few other things. I can ride next to a Polaris rzr 1000 and it's tapped out on top, I'm in 4th gear I can pull it up, then shift in 5th and it's stupid fast. Yes, it's got taller sprocket up front and as small as I could find out back. Plus 22" tires in rear with 23" tall up front. Been riding for over 40 years. Still enjoy it every chance I get
My wife rode it and stabbed the throttle at 40mph, it pulled her back out, 😢 chiropractic treatment followed, probably need to buy her a mellow scrambler 500cc 4x4
Its a beast, and it's a one-of-a-kind. There's never really been any other quads in the big bore sport quad market; at least not any that could compete with the Raptor.
just got a 2022 700r. i am falling in love with it. i am not used to this level of fit and finish quality. i ride it for an hour and the engine is almost cold after 5 minutes when i stop the engine. my polaris xp 1000 was overheating all the time even in very cold weather. in canada we have 20 years 160 000 kilometers warranty on the engine no charge with yamalube products exclusively. i mean this is confidence in the quality of your products. i keep it stock. the stock power is more than enough for such a light machine.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned, and it made me buy another sport quad was the 10% power increase that started on the 2015 models! That’s huge. I don’t know this but I felt Yamaha did it because of the renagade. Power to weight I mean. They are real close now
When I said huge I was implying that the sport qaud market gets stagnant with changes so it was huge on an existing model. Second I own a yfz 450 and it always bothered me that the 700 was slower. Not anymore.

I know you can stretch a set of Mud Sharks on the rear and it will grab EVERYTHING! I did it to a 660. Put sand razors on the front. It made a great Florida trail monster. I am pushing my wife to get her jet ski so I can get 700. I just got a GSXR 750 so it is her turn lol

My friend has a Raptor 700R buried under junk in his garage, not touched for years. Should I buy it for $3K? It has a twin exhaust + tuner, and the pipes get hot quick and glow at night. It also makes a noise almost like a bad belt/ pulley in a car (maybe coming from the engine). It runs great and I'm tempted 🤔

I've never ridden a sport quad, always utility machines (mostly Hondas). How are they on the trails? I'm afraid of getting hung up in ruts and whatnot.
I think it would be cool of Yamaha made a Raptor similar to a Can Am Renegade or a Polaris Scrambler. Same amount of power but with an IRS, 4 wheel drive and an overall slight change in the plastics and body style. I would be so interested in how it would look and preform.
Looking at getting a new raptor. As a big guy, I feel the frame size and smaller less torquey engine of the 450 may not fully satisfy me. Hopefully I'm making a good choice. Also, I'd like to have reverse.

Can the Raptor or Any quad tour long distance as motorbikes can? I would love to own a quad if it was capable of being a real daily driver as well as a play thing.
The Raptor. More torque and reverse. The Honda is a great quad too, and a lot lighter than the raptor. So while lacking reverse it can be manhandled around easier if you do need to.
@@boltfn2639 I used to have a TRX450 and loved it, had the HRC kit so a little more power and taller rear tires. It didn’t like going super slow on the right trails, would have to slip the clutch a lot, but was doable. But I’m currently look at the raptor, simply for the fact it has reverse, and Yamaha is the only manufacturer still making sport quads. I have been on a 660, but not a 700. I can only imagine it’s better in every way that what I remember of the 660 though.
If you are more of an aggressive rider 450r all the way. The 450 is a much better machine for faster riders and has great power delivery in its stock form. That is if you go for an 06 and newer.

Yamaha needs to add one more gear, time to make the raptor hit 100mph stock or bring back the banshee and make it a four stroke 850 twin make it plush then make it do 115mph also make it look mean

Always stayed away from raptors because of the axle bending problems. Very few options for a sport squad now though.
Unless you are gapping highways the axle is fine , but if you want too go and buy a dominator axle.

Never had an axle Bend and I ride them hard unless you do a cartwheel the axles don't bend

Raptor's a great machine. AJ's over 6ft and can rip rip on it.
