Somewhere out there on the interwebs, there are some training videos featuring this knife. The Spyderco Civilian is an interesting design, and I though Sal said there was a possible update in the works. I think that tip would break on the first real use. The G10 has a liner on only one side, so lefties have to adapt or look elsewhere. The back story is a bit tough to fully accept, but it adds some legend to the product. Still, part of the story was that this knife did not require the level of training and skill other knives would and anything it slashes will receive some severe damage. Cold Steel has some videos with their variant of this knife and of other Karambit style knives. Of course, for many, going to the knife means the firearm and pepper spray have already failed to halt the attack, and things are not going well at all.
I just got this exact knife, new in box for £7 at a UK boot sale, Its totally against the law to carry here, but I got it anyway and should have got the other 3 on offer. This is some bad ass knife
I kind of really want an Emerson wave opening version of this. If I was to ever get something serrated, this would probably be it. Definitely a cool factor.

LTK- Yikes, that is one scary looking knife and I don't scare easily. Doesn't seem very practical and that tip is one drop from oblivion. Crazy-ass blade. Seems expensive for VG-10, but that is Spyderco. Thanks for sharing.
That is a vicious-looking knife! Made in Japan? I find that a little odd. I didn't know Spyderco did any production there. I was thinking Taiwan, China, South Korea, United States, and Italy only.

I don't know what is more intimidating a pump shotgun or this.
i have the special addition that is plain edged. I love it and i carry it everywhere with me.
For this purpose driven knife, serrations are way more effective. Because vg 10 doesn't hold an edge and have the slashing capability in a plain edge.

The Civilian is good, but the Waved Matriarch II w/ FRN scales is better IMHO. Not as long, but just right size.

Look at the cold steel black talon if you want a demonstration and better knife.
I think if you use this for self defense it look worse to the judge than a firearm. damn, its a handful to sharpen too.
