Interestingly, i break shed loads of high E strings where the string comes through the bridge plate. I go between standard, half step down and 2 tones down tunings even in one day.. After time the plate wears. A bit of graphite helps, but i'm ruining the bridges. I'm too lazy to repair strings, good ideas tho gaz :)
Nice trick, it is obvious now that I saw someone do it. But wouldn't have think of it. Thanks for sharing! Oh and the scallop looks really nice!

This is how I use to recycle my strings back when I was a kid & couldn’t afford to by a whole set, just for braking one 😂. The good old days.

You might like to try Inox lubricant on the offending contact point as it out performs WD40 by ten times.
