  • Here is the Black Mexican Strat for those interested in it. I originally put Mexican 70's Strat pickups in it and then changed them out for Freedom Chinese ceramic pickups. Hopefully these guitar reviews may have incited some of you to build up a guitar and save a fair bid or have a go at scalloping or change out you pickups. With so much info on these subjects on TH-cam I'm sure you're up for it.

    Great video, Garry. I could listen to you talking about strats all day. What a beauty that black strat is.

    If I remember correctly you didn't say having CS69 pickups in any of your showcased strats. Did you at any point in the past had them? I am curious how are they compared to the stock Mexican seventies pickups. Thanks :)

      Hi Adam, I just checked the price of those pickups and can say they have definitely never been in any of my guitars.
      Are you planning a new project, maybe a Japanese 69 strat?

      +Garry Chambers You guessed it, only I already have it. The natural strat of mine is Japanese, and even though it is a ST71 model, I've put the CS 69 pickups in there. Essentially they were they same until 74 if I am correct. Anyway what I never had was the Mexican seventies that is why I am interested. As for new project I need to stop acquiring stratocasters :D:D

      :D would be nice :) That one is still missing from my "collection". I'd go for the MIJ ST68 in black. The MIJ I have now is the natural finished, scalloped and relacquered.

    Hi Garry, I found you when I was looking at how to play Wring that Neck., and I've been hooked on your videos since. Great job on that video as well as all others. I feel that you have a gift of breaking down aspects of Ritchies playing and make it easier to understand. I've been a huge Blackmore fan since age 14 in the mid 80s. I'm going to continue to watch your videos and learn from you. Also, how do you get such s great Blackmore tone? Thanks for the videos and inspiration!

    Very good, Garry. I think it would be nice a video comparing your scalloped guitars, including Blackmore model.

    Maybe I missed it, but when you bought the neck was it already scalloped?

      No I scalloped it. That's the one in the scalloping video.

      +Garry Chambers How long did it take you to get the hang of scalloping the necks and how how long have you been doing it? Also how do you make sure the inlays don't get ruined on a rosewood fretboard?

    Sounding awesome Garry. I have a black strat which is a USA body, Malmsteen neck, and currently has an EVH frankenstein humbucker and quarterpounder in neck. Thinking of putting some custom shop 69's to go for total DP mk ii vibe.

      Is turning out to be mostly Rainbow. Had a go at first 10 tracks, was sounding awesome. Really really pleased. Eyes of the World was sounding spectacular as was Kill the King, I surrender, Man on Silver Mountain,. Am working on my slide playing for some tracks (lady of the Lake) as have never really tried and its great fun. Checking out some Derek Trucks gospel type licks as well!

      Wow sounds like it's coming together OK. I can't say I'm a big fan of Ritchie's live slide playing but the studio stuff is great.
      For what it's worth have a listen to Dave Hole, TakeMe To Chicago. The way Ritchie holds the slice tends to give a different approach to his slide vibrato.

    I didnt understand your comment about "mexican is nothing"

    • @GarryChambers
      @GarryChambers  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have made this comment a few times however it is in reference to people and some of my friends that think that Mexican Fender is rubbish.
      I don't believe they are rubbish. In fact 35 years ago I had two 70's US Strats, I find the Mexican Strats today to be just as good if not better.

    • @asiannoodleboy9135
      @asiannoodleboy9135 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a bit snobbish to think only US plays better than mim, but from personal experience I think they're almost equal and US is slightly better in my opinion on the feel, but the sound is about the same. And tone is highly subjective. So a person can think a mexican might sound better because they prefer the tone more than the american.
