Nice to see your configuration! You have a very good sound in all your videos. And it is always educational to see the differences in the amp settings. I have just bought an ENGL screamer combo after more than one year rehearsing and recording in the studio on one. For a long time I was eyeballing the Blackmore signature but wanted a compact combo I can carry to gigs and give powerful tone on low volume. Videos with that are coming shorty :D

Finally someone that knows how to dial in an amp!Not turning the treble up all the way which all the"kids"seems to be doing these days.Look at Eric Johnson=Treble 0 Precence 2 mid 3-4 bass 3-4 both volumes on 10 no master volume there you have it.

Very impressive playing and the tone you have sounds very much like Ritchie Blackmore. Really appreciate the advice you give in achieving Ritchie's wonderful guitar tone/sound. I have the ENGL Ritchie Blackmore amp and cabinet, also a 1973 natural ash Stratocaster but to my ears I just couldn't hear Ritchie's tone. I recently came across a overdrive pedal (JCA BOD Deluxe) which I purchased and using this pedal I have at last achieved the sound I was looking for. Ritchie's tone at last !!

Gary, your playing is superb & Inspirational.I am an American Blackmore fanatic.I have been trying to figure out Rainbow/Purple covers for almost 20 yrs.I can get away with most riffs;but his rhythmic verses & solos I am completely lost on.In fact,I did not think it possible to even come close. You make precision sound spontaneous like he does.I am an otherwise intermediate player, and was hoping ,should you ever have the time, if you could refer me to the best tutorial videos to help me understand the style from root to flower.I am however prepared w/ the mexican Blackmore strat & small Marshall P. amp.Of course, any response from a player of your caliber would be an honor. Sincerely, Mike F.(Buffalo,N.Y.)

Outstanding: every time I see your sweeping technique I remain speechless!
Thanks for the very clear explanation: I also use very little bass and I'm very criticized for my choice but I think that in a group it's a very clever choice. I was amazed about the treble regolation but I think that different amps work differently: I usually stand with treble about noon or above but it depend largely on the volume at which you play.
But now we have another secret to discover: the gear above the ENGL footswitch, LOL!
    Thanks again ;-)

    • @GarryChambers
      @GarryChambers  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vigilius60
Thanks Vigilius. It's really a simple set up on the amp. As you say these setting might not work on other tube amps. Anyone who owns one of these amps should be able to dial in this kind of tone with these settings and a Fender Strat.
The rest of the gear is not that exciting but I have the video for it I'll see how it comes out in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for your continued support. Gaz.

Thanks Jack. I've used a Zoom GFX-4 for the last seven years or so. However I am planing to go back the individual pedals and use the clean and crunch channels in the future as I find this a much better way to control the clean tone with the volume nob on the guitar

Garry. The two masters are just 2 different volumes and are the same. The Hi and lo gain descriptions refers to the switches when the Z8 is not connected . If you disconnect that any use the switches on the front panel things work differently and the Hi and Lo relates to a switch that toggels between the hi and lo gain settings, which is the equivalent to when you select the high gain foot switch (3rd pedal from the right on the Z8) . Its a really confusing layout that took me a couple of years to fully understand. When playing live I use the 2 masters so I can get the same sound but louder for the solos. I had my amp modded to be slightly less gainy and less presence as per Berrnd from BSMs tips on the Blackmore forum. I got a tech friend to do it and it sounds really noice, still very similar just slightly warmer and smoother at very loud gigging volumes as I thought it could get a bit harsh before.

+LevonsWound Thanks LW I'm glad you like the vids. The only advice I can give is from working on my guitars. So on that basis I would recommend the classic 70's Mex strat bridge with wider screw spacings or the Mex standard strat bridge with narrower screw spacings. Try to make sure that they have the steel tremolo block and grab a tremolo spring if you don't want the arm swinging in the breeze. They start from around $60:00 on thestratosphere.

Garry, to my opinion all these ENGLs do not give enough sustain as AC30 or Major 200 which were modified by Ritchie and his techs. Its clear when guitar volume is on 5 or less and when you turn it on 10 it only becomes more fuzzy......

Thanks. Glad you like the channel.
The cab is a good question. Its a cheap Marshall MG412ACF. I have learnt to live with it as when I first got it the eq boom I got when I would play a D
above middle C and a B below would just over power the mix when recording so I would take four or five db off bass on the guitar channel when mixing which seemed to fix the problem.
I do have another well built quad box with no speakers in the shed that I would like to put some old green backs in and use in an isolation cabinet.
Really an isolation cab would be the best setup in my studio. On the other hand I have a home made 2X12 box 16ohm that sounds great that I could try in an iso cab.
I use a Shure SM57 and have it about and inch from the speaker mesh. Position about mid to outer cone.
      Thanks again. Gaz.
