HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. The Food Ranger hi hello how are you my frend i see you all vedo all epsid mee and my husbnd like your all show i m muslim but i like your all show me from pakistna
what i like about trevor is that he takes time to actually talking, socializing, be friendly n learn what' ok to say n not n interacting w locals in any countries he goes to, n it's what we can't/hard to see in other food-trip youtubers
'When you study a second language, everyone has an accent.' BAM... you win the internet today with that common sense pearler that often doesn't occur to most people.
11:44 when the lady saying your English is good, he replied "一般般” (just so so). That is so Chinese style answer. Humble. He really dips into Chinese culture. Haha
I live in Texas and we have a lot of 1st and 2nd generation Chinese Americans and I have honestly never met a rude person. They share so many values and morals that we have in Texas, it is amazing.
I was just in Leshan last week, and I was so sad to find out that the hongtang bing lady is gone! We asked around to a few different people and they all responded with a 没有了!So sad since we were sooo excited to try it after seeing your video! We did get to try the shaomai, boboji, and the blade-sheared noodles, all of which were AMAZING! Thanks for all of the great tips @thefoodranger
I love how you interact with the locals. The little girl was so curious about your accent and your explanation was a great teaching moment for her. I always end up feeling so hungry after watching your videos. I am going to go make instant noodles, cover them up in Sriracha and pretend they are as good as the food you eat :)
yea except a non western speaking English will still be accepted as American (or whatever western nationality we're talking about). IN contrast, Trevor will never be accepted as a Chinese.
Ganaria Gente i wouldn't say never be accepted as Chinese. China doesn't have a recent history of immigration. but during the Tang dynasty its been said many mid easterners, and possibly S. Easterners settled in China. plus China had several religions coming in. there are Muslims, even some Jewish community in China.
loati94 my father is from Leshan, which is a small but famous city in deep inland China, attracting many tourists every year. People's life there are so slow and relaxed, and I guess that's why everyone take their time and are friendly
My son has lived in China for 9 years, 7 in Beijing and 2 in Chengdu... He eats with workers from construction when he sees them because the food is excellent and cheap. Love your shows! Thanks!
Oh Trevor! You make me laugh, and just so happy! You're idea of a "pre-dinner snack" is totally up my alley. I love your love of spicy food, your facial expressions, and just your enthusiasm. #chilioilforlife!
I come from Chongqing. Now live in Brisbane. In the past 6 years, just back hometown once. Watching your videos is kind of vent for my hometown sickness. Thank you.
Awesome video Trevor, you never fail to impress. Keep up the good work man! Really wish you'd record longer videos can't get enough! You should make a little series 40+minuets of content once every 2 weeks 😅
I think I'm really liking Trevor James a lot. He seems so humble. Whenever people compliment him he seems so shy about it and grateful. Makes me want to go to China, especially the Xinjian province. (I heard of that province first from the documentary Karamay -- sad but eye opening about China and that region).
I love you dude cause you dont get all historic and boring and yap facts about the food. You just eat it!! And enjoy it! And film yourself doing that. Thats exactly what i need in life! Also you have such a positive vibe i love it! Keep it up :D
At 3:15 it looks like the guy riding the bike is having a confrontation with the guy pulling his car out. Your videos are like comfort food to me...great job!
Hey buddy! Let me think here: 1) Breakfast pocket, ate 3 to get the shots and angles and photos. 2) Brown Sugar pocket, ate 2 3) Shaomai dumplings - Shared one steamer with Ting Ting 4) Noodles - Finished the bowl 5) Bobo Ji - Ate enough skewers, not a ton but a few, then they take the bowl and give it to someone else 6) Leshan Duck- Finished the serving with Tingting by the end of the day 7) Tofu Brain - Unfortunately I finished this one, don't know why 8) Beef soup, finished, "Torpedo" Soup - UNFINISHED, Spicy/Numbing Blood- UNFINISHED So I suppose I finished everything except the "Torpedo", and the Blood. And there was some rice left over too.
I really HATE to watch people eat! Never mind listen to hear them eat. Trevor is the most tolerable person to deal with online. I truly appreciate every moment of his critique from start to finish. I am a great fan and will continue to watch his passion for food because he knows how.❤️

Wow! I have to pause here and get more snacks.... When you asked the dumpling guy for "one", it couldn't be a single dumpling, I thought maybe one bowl? One whole steamer tray! And just mix your own oil and stuff. That looks so great and would easily be twenty bucks in the US, if you could find it. And there wouldn't be any MSG b/c people are weird about it.... Man, only 1/3 of the way into this video and I'm already jealous and out of snacks.
Great video mate, I really enjoyed it, wish I could get food like that here in Dublin Ireland (although there's more and more Sichuan style restaurants all the time) and even if your Mandarin is "so, so" fair play for making the effort to actually learn it, unlike a lot of westerners who live in Asia and don't learn the native language.
What is the Chinese name for the Brown Sugar Pocket ? I LIVE in London and I'm dying to try it , I was thinking of searching for some in China Town , but i don't know the name 😔 someone pls tell me !!
www.xiachufang.com/recipe/227562/ I doubt that China Town has it. here's a recipe to make the brown sugar pocket. The pocket is made of flour and water, I don't think the recipe specified how much to use so I guess you can refer to recipes to make steamed bun. The filling is made of 40g of brown sugar and 10g of flour. Once you've made the pocket you basically put a bit filling in there, wrap up the pocket, and fry it in the pan.
Thank you for covering Leshan. Makes home a little closer here in California. Please do a few more if you ever have the chance, you have to check out 潘六娘绍子面! All the best to you and your culinary adventures!!!
You should subtitle (in Chinese) when you speak in English. You would get more followers across the water. Says me from Wisconsin. I wouldn't have a clue how to write or speak Chinese, but you are awesome.

"English" should be "Chinese" .
Yup, 一般般 (just so so) 还好还好 (it's alright) 过奖过奖 (you're too generous) are all ways to be generous when people compliment you in China.
Not English bro "Chinese".
He will. Marry Chinese

Trevor: Then no problem.

we saw the video
I love the interaction with the locals!
Thanks so much! Glad you like that part of the vids!
I love this guy! Super friendly and enthusiastic! You can tell he is passionate by the way that he speaks. You sir are awesome!
After only seeing a handful of videos, I absolutely love this channel. The host is awesome.
it's funny how a western speaks any other language ppl get amused and suprise.but when a Asian speaks English it's just a Asian speaking English lol
yea except a non western speaking English will still be accepted as American (or whatever western nationality we're talking about). IN contrast, Trevor will never be accepted as a Chinese.
Mandarin is a lot harder to learn than english.
Ganaria Gente i wouldn't say never be accepted as Chinese. China doesn't have a recent history of immigration. but during the Tang dynasty its been said many mid easterners, and possibly S. I think it's more so bc most Americans aren't exactly known for their vast knowledge of languages. English is spoken the world over
I'm Chinese and I speak decent French. When French people hear me speak French, they react similarly. It's just the novelty of it.
Enjoyed this series Trevor. I love the ease with which you communicate with people on your travels.
People in this video seem more open and friendly than in other videos no?
I was just thinking the same, everyone seems so nice in this video.
The only exception was MSG bomb lady, but otherwise agree.
loati94 my father is from Leshan, which is a small but famous city in deep inland China, attracting many tourists every year. People's life there are so slow and relaxed, and I guess that's why everyone take their time and are friendly
sichuan people are probably the nicest people in China.
people in smaller cities are usually more friendly than bigger cities.
I adore the way you interact with the locals. You have an ability to brighten up all of their day! Absolutely adorable!!!
I've been trying homemade Chinese food lately and I found it amazing! thanks for the video, it's cool
Another mouth watering video. Makes me hungry again and i just ate.

love your videos, really intriguing getting to know cuisines around many places. How come your not getting fat? XD cheers
Damn the way you handled the little kid was really awesome to me. Super respectful and relaxed.
My son has lived in China for 9 years, 7 in Beijing and 2 in Chengdu... He eats with workers from construction when he sees them because the food is excellent and cheap. Love your shows! Thanks!
The respect you show to everyone is reciprocated ten fold back. An excellent example of how people should back when traveling abroad.
I think my mouth would melt from all the spicyness

Richard Westmoreland 哈哈,你老婆很逗
Dare I ask if she's a good cook? Perhaps you could persuade her to take a trip to China just for the food!
Yeah :-) We actually went to Chendu and Guilin for our honeymoon last year.
you look weird
Everyone says your Chinese is very good, but the kid tells the truth, lol
haha
童言无忌。😂
hahaha
"very good" means as a Chinese, I understand everything he says, accent is not a problem at all.
His Chinese actually quite good. I can fully understand everything he said and without subtitles.
As an American-born Chinese, you are changing my opinion about Chinese food! Awesome job Trevor! Keep going. Good luck culinary school!
What a rough life. When a kid judges your accent. You know it must be hard to learn Chinese and speak it perfectly.
DarkSideSixOfficial nah it sound weird only but learning mandarin is very hard
That's what it's all about! Tai hao le Trever James😬

Trevor you owe us all an explanation. how do you eat so many large portions in a day? there's no way you eat all that
Hey buddy! Let me think here:
1) Breakfast pocket, ate 3 to get the shots and angles and photos.
2) Brown Sugar pocket, ate 2
3) Shaomai dumplings - Shared one steamer with Ting Ting
4) Noodles - Finished the bowl
5) Bobo Ji - Ate enough skewers, not a ton but a few, then they take the bowl and give it to someone else
6) Leshan Duck- Finished the serving with Tingting by the end of the day
7) Tofu Brain - Unfortunately I finished this one, don't know why
8) Beef soup, finished, "Torpedo" Soup - UNFINISHED, Spicy/Numbing Blood- UNFINISHED
So I suppose I finished everything except the "Torpedo", and the Blood. And there was some rice left over too.
thanks for the reply.
that's a lot, but makes sense and all good food too.

how long did it take you to learn Chinese?
2 years he claimed but it's all about practice
If you study any language intensively for a year or two and immerse yourself in an environment that speaks it, you will end up becoming fluent fast
