Thing you for taking the time to stop and drive through. My wife and I ran team and I show her , it brings back memories of the places we went . We both in joy driving an in joy binning together. I’m retired know. So we both thank you for your tour .😊

Before I-40, all the traffic on 66 went thru town and to deal with congestion(?) virtually all the small towns, Ashfork, Winslow, etc. had the paired ditectional one-way streets. Kept the traffic moving.
I remember staying in a motel in Ashfork at the East side of town when I rode with my grandparents in 1959.
The Escalante Hottel eas part of the Fred Harvey system of hoyels and lunch rooms offering travelers and railroad passengers (and railroad crews) a place to eat prior to the railroad having a dining car on every train. Ashfork was also the junction where passengers could change trains and wait for a train when going to or from Phoenix.

The poluation is closer to 2000 thats due to half are in one county and other half are in the other county. Now there are two major truck stops and one in the hoper loves which i dond think they need in a small town
In the old days they had a lot of painted womens working they area. Having watched a lot of old western movies ash fork comes up a lot. Thanks for sharing. Take care and have a wonderful day
When you're heading west to east that truck stop at end of town next to family dollar is brand new (opened about ??3 or so months ago). I live about 10 miles from town of ashfork.

Could be, I've only been here a few years. I know they had to change up the intersection right there so trucks heading in from east side of town could turn left into the truck stop. All that construction just started bout 6-8 months ago or so. I do vaguely remember a big abandoned empty possible asphalt lot there just before building the new stop so it is possible there was a truck stop there before.
