Yes please make arrangements to donate/sell decommissioned train parts to members of the public. We transport enthusiasts are more than willing to snag these and like mentioned in the video, it reduces wastage. It can create a supply-demand as more trains get scrapped and great revenue for SMRT/SBST/LTA.

Wow, I'm surprised and did not expect that CNA did this documentary video about decommissioning of trains! (Outside of the 'Third Rail' drama, which is not counted although 095/096 has been scrapped afterwards) Trains play a important part of the nation's development and Singapore is no exception especially since our rail network is expanding endlessly, currently the R151 trains are being introduced as a replacement for older trains to continue their legacy forward with better technologies. At least, several KNS decommissioned trains are being preserved for other uses which is great since KNS is a unique train model most people (including me) likes and comfortable to ride is the basis for the newer trains including underground lines

Singapore needs a place to properly preserve its transport history. Every other World City has it, along with a proper museum - London, New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Hong Kong. Singapore can't be and will never be considered a World City if society doesn't think seriously how to preserve its history and heritage. The newly built training testing facility in Tuas could easily be a place allocated for such purposes. Just one car of C151, C651, and C751B each parked at the facility and looked after minimally is more than enough. Singapore's way for preserving things is more or less an commercial afterthought and I have not seen one train or bus preservation project locally that is not repurposed for some commercial activity and fully appreciates its heritage value. Also, trains these days are built more like iPhones and I doubt they would last as long as the first generation trains due to the aluminum material and the complexity of these electronics.

It’s definitely ingenious to have to parts being given a new life within Singapore. I could see the seats being used as chairs across Singapore. They can take a lot of weight.
Using MRT trains as hotels would be ingenious too if someone made it work. Sydney has one that has backpackers hostel utilising old trains for 4 or 8 sleepers.

It is an interesting video for a railfan in Seoul, Korea.
It is quite sad that most old train (parts) from here are just wasted. Few of them are stored in museums, only to turn into something similar to garbage.
It is great news that some parts are donated to those who need them in Singapore, yet selling most of the parts to the railfan to minmise the waste and earn some extra money to lower the fare or to improve the train service might be better. Leaving some trainsets in a museum is also great. I was shocked when I saw so many people waiting in line to buy train components in Japan.

Pulau Belakang Mati was the old name of Sentosa. It means Behind Death Island. The island was renamed "Sentosa" in September 1970, which means peace and tranquility in Malay, from a suggestion by the public. In March 1971, the government announced plans to develop the island into a holiday resort for local visitors and tourists, and a S$124-million plan for developing Sentosa was unveiled in March 1972.

I think Philippines and Indonesia should learn something from Singapore, repurposing train parts. In the Philippines, LRTA 1000 Class (Gen 1 of Manila LRT Line 1) is soon to be retired since it's been running since 1986 and is obviously gonna go to Santalon Depot like Car 1037 which was decommissioned because of Rizal Day Bombing. While in Indonesia, trains are being stacked like boxes in a remote area. If Philippines do this, I would like to have a pair train doors and the route map.

Curitiba (Brazil) converts old buses into mobile clinics, classrooms & offices.
Cape Town (South Africa) has a restaurant in an old rail car, and has two working trains as mobile clinics bringing healthcare services to rural communities.

I hope that after this recent September 25 EWL train disruption incident, LTA and SMRT will consider sending those present 49 first generation trains to the scrapyard immediately! Imagine riding on a train that is 35 years old and still in service! Singapore buses are scrapped after in service for the minimum of 17 years but the trains are still in service after 35 years and still not sent for scrap! Now I think Singapore has been ridiculed by other countries even since the recent September 25th train disruption incident. If I am working in LTA, I will have already suggested that all the rest of the first generation trains be sent to the scrapyard immediately after new trains are being deployed.
